BIO: Recognized by many as the greatest tag team in LOW history, the record nine-time LOW World tag team champions the Road Warriors, Hawk & Animal, hailing from Chicago, IL, strike an imposing presence with their face paint and muscular physiques. With their trusted associate and manager “Precious” Paul Ellering by their side, the Road Warriors have built up an impressive record winning 73% of their matches as a tag team and currently lead all tag teams in LOW history with 123 victories as of this writing.
They ironically made their LOW debut in a trios match on the very first LOW card in Buffalo, NY, teaming with Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka to defeat Killer Kowalski, Nikolai Volkoff & Iron Sheik. Six cards later, at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA, they began their first of that record nine LOW World tag team title reigns when they won the belts from Nick Bockwinkel & “Nature Boy” Buddy Rogers. Their rivalry with Bockwinkel and Rogers was an exciting one with a few title changes taking place between the two teams.
Perhaps their greatest rivalry has come against the Midnight Express. Led by Manager Jim Cornette, the talented tandem of “Loverboy” Dennis Condrey & “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton have won three of their impressive eight LOW World tag team titles from the Road Warriors. This is a rivalry that has lasted since the first year of existence for LOW and any time these two teams meet it is destined to be a classic.
Another key rival for them has been the powerful Steve “Dr. Death” Williams who, whether aligned with Ted Dibiase or Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy, has given them some tough fights in tag team competition. In recent years, they have engaged in other powerful rivalries against such combinations as Andre the Giant & Big John Studd and more recently the Powers of Pain, The Warlord & The Barbarian.
One strange statistic regarding the Road Warriors has been the fact that only one of their LOW World tag team title wins has come at a WrestleCade event. That happened at WrestleCade 2 in Tokyo where they beat Dibiase and Williams for the titles. Their overall championship record at the big event is an impressive 7-0 with one title win and six title defenses, while their five times on the losing side at WrestleCade were all in non-championship matches. Whatever way you look at it Hawk and Animal, along with Ellering, have been the cornerstone of the LOW tag team division since day one and they don’t appear to be giving up that spot anytime soon.
