Next up for my fed I will kick off the new year with a card presented by Kings Road United at the Tokyo Dome (Card #801), a nod to New Japan which kicks off a new year every January 4 at the Tokyo Dome. Anyway here is the full lineup and I hope to have the results posted soon...

Kings Road United - Strong Style Experience - Tokyo Dome - Tokyo, Japan (Card #801)

1) New Year Special Opening Fight: C.W. Anderson defeated Boris Zhukov:
The new year in LOW opened up with C.W. Anderson of Kings Road United taking on free agent Boris Zhukov in the opening match at the Tokyo Dome. Zhukov has had a few successful tours of KRU and he was looking to continue that here. The rugged Anderson went toe-to-toe with the 275-pound Russian star and nailed him with the Spinebuster in the early going for a big near fall. A missed deathjump (ch) by Anderson saw Zhukov connect with a knee drop for a two count. The two men traded blows on the outside a few times before this one ended with Anderson executing a Hammerlock Slam and press to score a snake eyes pin.

2) Sky Queens Battle: Tomoka Nakagawa defeated Sumie Sakai:
Two of the stars of SHIMMER squared off as the veteran Sumie Sakai, a native of Tokyo, took on Tomoka Nakagawa out of Asahikawa, Japan. Nakagawa recently made her debut with SHIMMER and was very impressive in this bout. She scored early two counts on Sakai with a roll-up out of the corner and a flying bodypress off of the top rope. A top rope dive by Sakai also took out the referee and it was Nakagawa dominating during the down time. Sakai struck back hitting the huracanrana and trapping Nakagawa in the choking Camel Clutch. The fast paced battle ended when Nakagawa hit a bridging fisherman’s suplex and trapped Sakai in the CRB, a bridging reverse chinlock, scoring the submission victory.

3) Galaxian Warfare Reunion: Massif & Wolf defeated Massacre & Brute:
The stars of the future from the Galaxian Wrestling Federation were reunited for a big tag team showdown as Massif & Wolf joined forces to face Massacre & Brute, the Gladiators of Aethra. All four men enjoyed success in the early years of LOW, including Massif serving as LOW Commissioner, before returning to the GWF. The popular Massif of Ceres, checking in at 6’9” and 369-pounds, still returns to LOW from time to time serving on the Board of Directors. All four men were primed and ready for what was a great tag team battle. Massif & Wolf, though inexperienced as a tag team, showed great teamwork and controlled for long stretches including Wolf scoring a near fall on Brute with the Wolf Skullcrusher. Massacre & Brute staged a late rally and nearly won it when Brute hit Wolf with the Gladiator Piledriver and Massacre followed with an atomic knee drop for a near fall. The finish saw Massacre going for a deathjump but Wolf was able to move out of the way and deliver his own version of the Atomic Knee Drop to score the pin.

4) Four Score Emancipation: Evan Lewis defeated Abraham Lincoln:
A most interesting confrontation saw Abraham Lincoln, a beloved former President of the United States, take on Evan “Strangler” Lewis who several years ago had a torrid rivalry with Ed “Strangler” Lewis in LOW. Both men are free agents and represent the pioneer era of professional wrestling along with fellow LOW stars like “The Solid Man” William Muldoon and The Terrible Turk (Youssuf Ishmaelo). The Catch as Catch Can style of wrestling was on full display here with both men going all out to pick up a victory. Lincoln scored with moves like the headlock throw while Lewis countered with the double leg takedown. Lewis is known for his feared and controversial finisher, the Stranglehold, but he reverted to getting a pinfall victory after nailing Lincoln with a Fireman’s Slam on the Spine in the heat of battle.

5) Junior Stars Rising: Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito defeated Jushin Liger & Tiger Mask:
Great tag team action saw the popular Jushin “Thunder” Liger & Tiger Mask, who combined have thirteen reigns as LOW Junior Heavyweight champion, battle the nefarious team of “The Devious One” Mr. Fuji & “Mr. Torture” Mr. Saito. Liger and Tiger are attempting to branch out into heavyweight action and they fared very will in this match. Early action saw Saito trap Liger in the Scorpion Leglock but Tiger made the save. Tiger would take over on offense nailing Saito with a Tombstone Piledriver. That set up Liger connecting with the Liger Bomb on Saito but Fuji made the save. Fuji was at his devious best in this one and late in the battle he caught Liger with the Banzai Drop for a big near fall. Liger battled back hitting his own Tombstone Piledriver on Fuji for a big near fall. A tough and grueling bout ended in some controversy as Fuji tossed salt in the eyes of Tiger as the referee was distracted by Saito. Then with Saito cutting off Liger it was Fuji trapping Tiger in the Fuji Nerve Grip and grinding it on to score a submission victory. Fuji and Saito afterward gestured around their waists indicating they want a shot at the LOW World tag team titles currently held by the Fabulous Kangaroos (Al Costello & Roy Heffernan).

6) 30-Intergalactic Species Kaiju Big Battel Royal: Exotic Adrian Street eliminated Al Snow to win:
One of the most unique matches in LOW history took place next as Louden Noxious, who resembles Gavin Loudspeaker of CHIKARA, hosted what was officially billed as a 30-Intergalactic Species Kaiju Big Battel Royal. Noxious scoured the earth, and in some cases the galaxy, and invited thirty men and women to compete in this special match sanctioned by Kings Road United. As an added bonus the winner of the match would receive an invitation to compete on the next Kings Road United tour (Cards #832-834) so there was something to fight for. Adding to the chaos of the match was the fact that Noxious did his own extremely loud play-by-play over the public address system of the Tokyo Dome often providing distractions for the various species participating in the match.

There were some wild moments in the match including Mister ZERO eliminating both Genghis Khan and SHIMMER star MsChif when Khan tried to save her from elimination. ZERO and free agent star “Bloody” Harker Dirge were very impressive scoring several eliminations each. They then engaged in a brutal battle that saw Dirge dump the CHIKARA star over the top rope. It wasn’t long after that when Dirge was dumped out by The Missing Link. Earlier action saw the Link take a pounding from SHIMMER star Jessicka Havok before turning it around tossing her out of the ring. Havok was a force during the match avoiding elimination several times and even eliminating Dragon Dragon of CHIKARA at one point. The last two men left were free agent star Al Snow and Exotic Adrian Street of the GWA. Both men scored impressive eliminations during the match including Snow dumping out ROH star Rhino. Street, in turn, eliminated the 375-pound Tursas after ducking a clothesline and executing a running knee lift sending him backward over the top rope. The finish of the match saw Street get the upper hand on Snow and use an assist from his valet, Miss Linda, to eliminate him. As a result it will be Street coming back for a tour of Kings Road United. Noxious presented Street with a Godzilla-like trophy courtesy of Kaiju Big Battel but Street wound up smashing the trophy before grabbing Noxious and kissing him causing the ring announcer to flee the ring.

7) Mountain Power Struggle: The Mongols defeated Masked Superstar & Big John Studd:
This highly anticipated tag team showdown saw The Mongols (Bepo & Geeto) do battle with the reunited team of the Masked Superstar & Big John Studd. The 6’10” and 364-pound Studd recently signed a contract with KRU and reunited with the Superstar who he teamed with in the past under a mask as Masked Superstar II. They were looking to post a big win here but The Mongols were not going to go down without a fight. Bepo and Geeto came out full force in this one delivering some heavy blows to the opposition. The Superstar managed to turn things around and score a two count on Geeto with the Superstar Clothesline. Studd also delivered punishing offense with a full nelson slam (ch, substitute for cobra clutch suplex) and the boot to the face. The turning point came when Geeto laid out Studd with the Oriental Spike scoring a near fall. A short time later The Mongols executed the Mongolian Drop on Studd with Geeto scoring the pin while Bepo fended off the Superstar.

8) Legend of Masked Man: Mil Mascaras defeated The Destroyer:
Two of the greatest masked wrestlers in LOW squared off as the “Man of 1,000 Masks” Mil Mascaras, a record seven-time LOW World Heavyweight champion, took on the “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer, a former LOW International Heavyweight champion. This was a technical classic with both men showing off their great ring skills. Mascaras took down the Destroyer with the rolling head scissors and used in Indian Deathlock for a submission chance. The Destroyer struck back neutralizing Mascaras with the single leg Boston Crab and scoring a big near fall with the Bombs Away. He had Mascaras in serious trouble late in the bout when he trapped him in the Figure Four Leglock. Mascaras nearly conceded the match before using one last burst of energy to reverse the hold into the ropes forcing a break. A great finish saw The Destroyer going for a hip toss but Mascaras countered that and trapped him in a Standing Surfboard hold. The Destroyer dropped to his knees as Mascaras applied the pressure and got the victory via submission. The crowd cheered both men afterward and they showed mutual respect by shaking hands.

9) Fighting Spirit Battle: Rikidozan defeated Antonio Inoki:
It was teacher vs. student as KRU founder Rikidozan took on his protégé Antonio Inoki in a battle of respect. It doesn’t get much better than this as both men were at the top of their game. Inoki was fresh off competing in the PWI Invitational Cup Tournament during WrestleCade VIII weekend but missed going to the finals. Had that happened he would have had to take a direct flight from Atlanta to Tokyo and work this match on short rest. Inoki came out of the gate strong and caught Rikidozan with the top rope kneedrop and cobra twist. Rikidozan struck back with the overhand chops and hit both the Thunderous Chops and Hiplock for big near falls during the course of the match. Inoki had a stronger performance over the body of the match and nearly scored submission victories with the bow and arrow and Octopus Hold. He had Rikidozan in serious trouble until he battled back with more overhead chops and scoop slams. After a tense exchange it was Rikidozan nailing Inoki with the big forearm hammer before executing another Hiplock to score the pin. The crowd erupted in cheers as Rikidozan won over his protégé and tag team partner. A frustrated Inoki slapped Rikidozan post-match and he responded in kind. The two then had a brief stare down before shaking hands and Inoki raised the arm of Rikidozan in a classy gesture towards his mentor.

10) War of the Gargantuans: Andre the Giant defeated Giant Baba:
The main event, billed appropriately as the “War of the Gargantuans”, saw Shohei “Giant” Baba attempting to end the undefeated streak of the “Eighth Wonder of the World” Andre the Giant. The tale of the tape saw Baba check in at 6’10” and 298-pounds and Andre at 7’5” and 450-pounds. Early action was pretty interesting with the two giants engaging in a trade of holds and counter holds. Andre took the upper hand and nearly won it via submission with a bearhug. Baba escaped there and would strike back with his trademark Jumping Neckbreaker Drop for a two count. Baba kept up a strong attack including hitting the Baba Chop and his 16-Mon Kick, or the boot to the face. Andre gave Baba a dose of his own medicine and hit his own big boot to the face and scoring a big near fall with an underhook suplex. The two giants fought out to ringside several times and Andre was nearly disqualified after running Baba into the ring post. The referee waived it off allowing the battle to go to a finish much to the delight of the capacity crowd. Baba nearly won it moments later when he managed to execute a back suplex on Andre and roll over on top of him to score a big near fall. An amazing finish saw Baba having exhausted all avenues and he attempted to catch Andre by surprise with a dive off of the top rope. Andre, however, managed to roll out of the way and follow up with a Sitdown Splash to score the pin. It was a huge victory for Andre who remains undefeated in LOW but Baba came as close as anyone to ending it in what was a great main event.

Andre the Giant remains undefeated, Rikidozan vs Antonio Inoki in a teacher vs mentor matchup, 7 time LOW Champion Mil Mascaras vs The Destroyer in Tokyo where The Destroyer is insanely popular, and a great interspecies battle royal which I really liked because with Louden Noxious providing play by play so the audience can hear him it really reminded me of Louden Noxious providing play by play on the microphone when I saw KAIJU at The Plaza here in Las Vegas several years ago.

Great show! Loved the Mascaras-Destroyer match, although I was pulling for Destroyer to win it.

There is an interesting historical irony in referring to Abraham Lincoln as the "beloved former president", a term which never would have applied in real life since he died in office.

LOW All-Star Wrestling (Episode 39) - WMC-TV5 Studios - Memphis, TN (Card #802)

The broadcast opened with announcers Lance Russell and Dave Brown, along with special guest commentator Nick Bockwinkel, discussing all of the events from both WrestleCade VIII (Card #800 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA) and Kings Road United with Strong Style Experience at the Tokyo Dome (Card #801). The main point of discussion was the crowning of a new LOW World Heavyweight champion at WrestleCade VIII with Lou Thesz beating The Sheik for the title. Bockwinkel said that Thesz had long been considered an uncrowned world heavyweight champion in LOW but that now he had achieved what he had worked so hard to gain. Both Russell and Brown agreed and then asked Bockwinkel about his match with Danny Hodge at the big event. Bockwinkel said that he respects Hodge a great deal and that he would love to have a rematch with him. He said that there was no shame in losing to Hodge as he was the better man that night but that next time the result would be different. Russell then asked Bockwinkel about his status as a free agent in LOW and if he intends to sign a contract soon. Bockwinkel said that he has already decided on that and in fact he has signed a contract to join the GWA where he will pursue a rematch with Hodge. Russell said that it was great news and that everyone looks forward to the chance to see him back in regular competition in LOW.

Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express (“Loverboy” Dennis Condrey & “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton) then burst into the studio with the vocal manager demanding air time. Russell got up from the announce table to begrudgingly grant them that.

LR: “Ok Cornette what are you doing out here? You guys aren’t even scheduled to be here this week.”

JC: “Catch your breath, banana nose, in case you didn’t know today is my birthday and we are out here to celebrate.”

LR: “I had no idea about that but in that case Happy Birthday but can we please get on with this.”

JC: “My beloved Mama, Mama Cornette, has purchased this television time for me and everyone here is going to get to enjoy my party. Nothing is going to ruin this special day.”

LR: “Alright Cornette but I do have one question and that is how is the relationship between you and Mr. Condrey? Things looked pretty tense between the two of you during that tag team Gauntlet Match during WrestleCade VIII weekend.”

JC: “That is none of your business, banana nose! As you can see Dennis is right here helping me celebrate my birthday and in fact we have decided to start the new year off with a bang as I have agreed to give Randy Savage & Bruiser Brody a rematch against us on the next SWA card in Greensboro, NC (Card #804). We already beat those two goofs in Baton Rouge, LA (Card #783) and we will do it again in Greensboro.”

LR: “Those are some pretty big words, Jimmy. You guys may have won the last time out but Savage and Brody are on a real tear and they just beat the Road Warriors in a big match at WrestleCade VIII.”

JC: “The Road Warriors? Who cares we already beat those face painted muscle heads and in fact we are three-time LOW World tag team champions and that speaks for itself. Now bring my cake out here and let’s get this birthday celebration underway.”

With that a birthday cake was wheeled in from the side door and party hats and favors were distributed including to Russell, Brown, and Bockwinkel. Cornette then had the Express attempt to lead everyone in singing Happy Birthday to him but there was little enthusiasm from the studio audience or the three announcers. After that he went to cut the cake when suddenly bursting in through the open side door were none other than Randy “Macho Man” Savage and “King Kong” Bruiser Brody! The two raced right towards the Express but Savage took a slight detour and ran the head of Cornette into his birthday cake! Savage and Brody then battled Condrey and Eaton out of the studio while a cake faced Cornette attempted to get back to his feet but then slipped on the icing.

LR: “Are you ok, Jimmy? I’m afraid you have that birthday cake all over your face and polyester suit.”

JC: “My cake, my glasses, my suit! My Mama is going to sue everyone especially Savage and Brody. We will take you for everything your…”

Cornette didn’t have time to finish his statement as both Savage and Brody stormed back into the studio sending the embarrassed manager running to the back. Savage then grabbed the mic from Russell and issued a strong statement:

RS: “Ooooh yeah, dig it! We are now the premiere tag team in LOW and Cornette I hope you had a Happy Birthday as I can tell you sure enjoyed that cake. But when there is a party and me and “King Kong” aren’t invited we crash it, yeah. Freak out, freak out this is the “Macho Man” Randy Savage talking and you can damn sure bet that me and Brody will take down the Midnight Express in Greensboro and after that we want the Road Warriors again. In fact, Lance Russell, we have already signed to face the Road Warriors in a rematch at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY (Card #816) and we are gonna beat them again, Ooooh yeah!”

LR: “Wow, that is some huge news right there and as Savage and Brody are walking on out of here I hope they don’t make another surprise appearance as I don’t know if my heart can take it. Over to you, Dave, what do we have for the rest of the show.”

DB: “Thanks, Lance, and as a matter of fact we have a great show in store today headlined by ASW’s own Les Thatcher bringing in a mystery partner to face Konnan & Playboy Buddy Rose of Sharpe Sports Agency, Inc. out of PCW. Also in action today are the popular Hillbilly Jim & Cousin Luke, “Superstar” Bill Dundee, 2 Cold Scorpio and in our opening match we have the massive King Kong Bundy in action.”

1) Jim Powers defeated King Kong Bundy by DQ:
The popular Jim Powers took on King Kong Bundy of the AWE in the opening contest. Jimmy Hart was at ringside for Bundy and he went over to the announce table to reveal some big news. He said that he had fired Brutus Beefcake, who lost to Powers on a previous ASW broadcast, from the First Family and terminated his contract with the AWE. He also said that Bundy will be getting a shot at LOW World Heavyweight champion Lou Thesz on the next AWE card in Chicago, IL (Card #805). While that was going on Bundy nearly lost twice as Powers got two counts with a running knee lift and a flying bodypress off of the top rope. Bundy then took this one to the outside where he was disqualified snake eyes style for repeatedly running Powers back first into the ring post. Bundy didn’t stop there and said he had a message for Thesz and proceeded to deliver an Avalanche to Powers while he was propped up against the ring post. A laughing Bundy and Hart then left the studio as paramedics rushed in to attend to Powers who had to be carried out on a stretcher.

2) 2 Cold Scorpio defeated Matt Striker:
This one was over quickly as GWA star 2 Cold Scorpio took on Matt Striker. The early action was controlled by Striker until Scorpio tied him up with a surfboard and left him prone on the mat. Scorpio then jumped to the top rope and came off with a Moonsault to score the pin. Nick Bockwinkel left the announce table during the bout and went backstage to check on the condition of Jim Powers.

Interview – Mr. X:
Lance Russell ventured to ringside to talk with the winless Mr. X who had requested some interview time. Russell brought up the fact that the record of Mr. X currently stands at 0-49-0 and that his next loss would be number fifty. Mr. X was beside himself and said that he breaks his back traveling the highways and byways and all he hears about is his winless record. He said that he is sick of losing and there is no way he is going to drop another match. He then dared anyone to come out and prove him wrong. Fellow ASW star Ricky Landell came out and said that if Mr. X wanted a match he could have one. Mr. X told him to “prepare to lose” and then decked him leading to the two brawling at ringside. Russell then called for Dave Brown to ring the bell and make it official…

3) Ricky Landell defeated Mr. X:
The popular Ricky Landell out of St. Paul, MN, really took it to Mr. X in this one. In his defense Mr. X was doing everything he could to avoid losing yet again and kicked out of several pin attempts. Nick Bockwinkel returned to the announce table during the match and said that Jim Powers suffered three broken ribs and will be out of action for several weeks. Landell won it after hitting Mr. X with a missile dropkick and delivering the Fisherman’s Buster for the pin. A dejected Mr. X left the ring with his record dropping to 0-50-0 while Landell celebrated with the fans at ringside.

4) Hillbilly Jim & Cousin Luke defeated Lanny Poffo & Dupae Rupa by DQ:
The popular SWA team of Hillbilly Jim & Cousin Luke took on the ASW combination of “The Genius” Lanny Poffo & “Belgian Brawler” Dupae Rupa. It was all Jim and Luke most of the way as they kept Poffo isolated leaving Rupa waiting to tag in. Big Jim roughed up Poffo with his size and strength scoring near falls with both a clothesline and scoop slam. Luke added in the mule kick for good measure. Rupa wound up saving Poffo from being pinned and the two began double-teaming Big Jim after tossing Luke out to the floor. The excessive double-teaming led to Poffo and Rupa being disqualified with Luke returning to make the save for Jim.

5) Bill Dundee defeated George South:
An interesting turn of events took place here as George South took on “Superstar” Bill Dundee of the AWE. The “Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart returned to ringside and announced that Dundee was the newest addition to the First Family. Dundee took control late in a highly competitive bout and attacked the legs of South before trapping him in a Boston Crab to score a submission victory. Hart jumped up and down at ringside blowing the siren on his megaphone before running back over to the announce table and informing everyone that Dundee will do what that “loser” Brutus Beefcake could never do and that is bring victories to the First Family.

Promo – CHIKARA King of Trios:
New CHIKARA Director of Fun Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana was featured live via satellite discussing the fourth annual King of Trios for CHIKARA under the LOW banner. The three day event takes place at The Asylum Arena in Philadelphia, PA (Card #808-810). 6) Konnan & Playboy Buddy Rose defeated Larry Hennig & Les Thatcher:
The television main event saw Les Thatcher of ASW recruit Larry “The Axe” Hennig of PCW to battle the Sharpe Sports Agency, Inc. team of Konnan & Playboy Buddy Rose. This came about on the last edition of ASW (Card #791) where Thatcher scored an upset win over Rose despite the outside interference of both Konnan and “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe. The announcement of Hennig as they mystery partner drew protests from Konnan, Rose, and Sharpe who have been embroiled in a war with their former ally in PCW. Thatcher and Hennig dominated the early action which included Hennig blasting Rose with The Axe. He went for the pin but it was broken up by Konnan. Thatcher shined during his time in and frustrated both members of SSA, Inc. Sharpe looked angry on the outside as he attempted to rally his troops. The finish of a wild bout saw Konnan nail Thatcher with the 187 for the pin as both Rose and Sharpe held on to Hennig preventing him from making the save.
