Thanks for the nice comments Crimson and Pariah. Race-Baba and Tiger-Stevens were my favorite bouts to roll on that show but I agree Pariah that the six-man tag was a definite highlight. I normally don't mix color and b&w cards but make exceptions for KRU and SHIMMER. It is especially fun to do with KRU as it allows me to use the cards for some real fresh match-ups. Thanks for following along and next up is the final night of the KRU tour headlined by the Inoki vs. Brody cage match. Hope you enjoy the action...
LOW Kings Road United - Budokan Hall - Tokyo, Japan (Card #864)
1) C.W. Anderson defeated Savage-T:
The opening match saw C.W. Anderson of KRU go against Savage-T of ASW in what was a pretty competitive bout. Savage-T may not have the best won-loss record in LOW but he always puts up a good fight. He survived an early Spinebuster from Anderson and came back hitting a superkick for a two count. He had things going his way until Anderson nailed him with a falling armbreaker followed by a second Spinebuster for the pin. Both men shook hands afterward to cheers from the crowd.
2) Tiger Mask & El Generico defeated Matthew Cross & Marion Fontaine:
The second pairing of Tiger Mask & El Generico (ROH) on the tour saw the two come away with a victory over the Olde Wrestling combination of Matthew Cross & Marion Fontaine. Cross and Fontaine are normally adversaries but they paired up here hoping to pick up a big win on the tour ending show. Tiger Mask controlled the early action using his blazing speed as he stunned Cross with a variety of kicks. Generico tagged in and hit a spectacular corkscrew moonsault and suicide dive. Cross later reversed momentum against Tiger using the airplane spin and fireman’s carry neckbreaker. Fontaine had some nice exchanges with Generico but ultimately fell in the end. The finish saw Tiger Mask execute the Tiger Suplex on Fontaine for the pin as Generico prevented Cross from making the save.
3) Ricochet defeated Drew Gulak:
The stars of Evolve had a chance to shine as they faced each other on the tour ending show with Ricochet taking on Drew Gulak. This was a real showcase match for both men and with the IWA on the horizon they are hoping to secure a spot on the roster. Gulak was dominant early and really had Ricochet on the ropes. He trapped him in the University Stretch going for the submission which Ricochet battled out of with kicks. Gulak followed with the Spine Splitter for a big near fall and then laid Ricochet out with the Bataclan suplex. Things were looking bad for Ricochet, particularly after he missed the 630 Senton, but he fought back into it scoring near falls with a counter cradle hold and the double rotation moonsault. Gulak regained control and nearly scored a TKO but somehow Ricochet hung on and nailed him with Chocolate Rain to score the pin. The crowd gave both men a standing ovation afterward and the win by Ricochet meant that he went undefeated on the tour.
4) Masked Superstar & Big John Studd defeated The Mongols:
Intense tag team action saw The Mongols (Bepo & Geeto) take on the Masked Superstar & Big John Studd. The Mongols dominated this one early getting heat on the Superstar for an extended stretch. Geeto executed the Top Rope Knee Drop for a big near fall while Bepo struck the masked man with the chains behind the back of the referee. Studd helped turn things around using his massive size and he punished Geeto with a reverse bearhug. Superstar got back in and hit the Spinning Neckbreaker on Geeto for a big near fall. The battle raged back and forth, including going out of the ring several times, before Geeto missed with a dive off of the top rope. That led to the Superstar delivering an Elbowdrop and covering him for the snake eyes pin as Studd prevented Bepo from making the save. The two teams continued fighting post-match until LOW officials ran down to the ring helping to restore order. The Mongols grabbed their chains and fended off another attempted attack leading to the Superstar and Studd beating a hasty retreat to the locker room.
5) Steve Williams & Terry Gordy vs. Mark & Jay Briscoe was a DDQ:
A highly anticipated tag team match saw the Miracle Violence Connection (Steve “Dr. Death” Williams & Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy) take on Mark & Jay Briscoe. The early action between Williams and Mark was pretty intense with “Dr. Death” twice blasting him with a lariat before Mark struck with the Cut-Throat Driver for a two count. Jay tagged in and hit a piledriver on Williams going for the pin but “Dr. Death” kicked out with authority. Gordy tagged in and was on the receiving end of some solid offense by the Briscoes’ including taking the double flapjack. Jay also connected with both the Yakuza Kick and piledriver before Gordy began mounting a strong comeback. After hitting the Bam Bamm Slam he tossed Jay out of the ring where the battle continued. Williams and Mar joined in and the four men brawled all of the ringside area ending this one in a double disqualification.
6) The Destroyer defeated Ray Stevens:
Two veteran stars squared off here as The “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer of KRU faced PCW star Ray “The Crippler” Stevens. The Destroyer was at the top of his game in this match as he controlled a good portion of it. He focused his attack on the legs of Stevens tying him up in the single leg Boston Crab several times. He then attempted a flying bodypress from the top rope but that took down the referee as well. Stevens mounted some offense during the down time but then The Destroyer was able to trap him in the intelligent sleeper hold. Stevens fought the hold but it took a good deal of his energy away and The Destroyer capitalized on that by applying the Figure Four Leglock in mid-ring. Stevens tried to fight out of it with an attempted reversal but The Destroyer rolled it back over cinching it on to score a submission victory. The crowd cheered the win by The Destroyer who is one of the most popular stars in KRU.
7) Harley Race, Mr. Fuji, & Mr. Saito defeated Rikidozan, Giant Baba, & Jushin Liger:
Big six-man tag team action saw Rikidozan, Shohei “Giant” Baba, and Jushin “Thunder” Liger join forces to face reigning L:OW International Heavyweight champion Harley Race, Mr. Fuji, & Mr. Saito. The early action saw Race leading his team in an offensive on Rikidozan as he set him up with a diving headbutt allowing Fuji to lock on the Fuji Nerve Grip. A subsequent suplex by Fuji on Rikidozan resulted in a two count. Rikidozan battled back with blistering chops against Saito and made the tag. Baba, one day removed from an unsuccessful challenge for the LOW International Heavyweight title against Race, looked strong during his time in. He cut off an offensive by Saito and laid him out with a blistering Baba Chop. Saito would gain revenge for his team, though, as he took out Liger with the Oriental Leg Sweep and that led to Race catching the seven-time LOW Junior Heavyweight champion with a bridging Back Suplex to score the pin.
8) Steel Cage Match: Antonio Inoki defeated Bruiser Brody:
The main event saw Antonio Inoki overcome the odds to defeat freelance star Bruiser Brody within the confines of a Steel Cage. Inoki went into the match suffering from a bruised chest and ribs coming from a vicious attack by Brody on the opening night of the tour in Hawaii. The injury forced Inoki to cancel his match on the next night of the tour and he entered the cage wearing tape on the injured area. Brody entered the arena to the strains of Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin winging his chain and barking as he scared away throngs of fans. He attempted to climb the cage to enter but Inoki stared him down prompting Brody to drop down and furiously shake the steel walls. When Brody finally made his way in through the door he was ready for battle and went straight after Inoki. The two men have had some wild battles over the years but this one may have topped them all. Brody was relentless in his attack and he had Inoki in trouble early including laying him out with the twisting vertical suplex. Inoki had to dig down deep and with the crowd backing him he mounted a strong comeback including scoring a two count after hitting the Enzuigiri. It was a stiff blow to the head that really shook Brody up and Inoki followed with the belly to back suplex before trapping him in the Octopus Hold. With no way to get a rope break it was a tough spot for Brody to be in and as Inoki cinched the hold on he had no choice but to tap out snake eyes style. Inoki got the victory via submission and solidified his spot as one of the top stars in KRU with the win. An incensed Brody went after Inoki post-match and tossed him out of the cage door before shaking the walls again. He stormed around the ring barking and then climbed out over the top before grabbing his chain and leaving through the crowd. It was a wild end to what was an epic main event to close out the tour.
