LOW Global Wrestling Association - Arena Mexico - Mexico City, Mexico (Card #987)
1) Johnny Saint & David Taylor defeated The Executioner & Timber:
The opening contest saw two great British stars join forces as Johnny Saint & David Taylor took on The Executioner & Timber “The Insane Lumberjack” who appeared courtesy of LOW All-Star Wrestling. Both teams performed very well in what was an even and hard fought match from bell to bell. Saint impressed with his great holds and counter holds which negated the size difference between him and the opposition. The Executioner got the better of Taylor late but then whipped him into the corner and that set up the finish. Taylor rebounded out of the corner and blasted The Executioner with a Counter Running Forearm to score the pin.
2) Ivan Koloff defeated Afa, Jr.:
The next match saw Afa, Jr., “The Samoan Storm”, go up against the “Russian Bear” Ivan Koloff. Afa, Jr. recently scored a big win over veteran Bob Roop and he was hoping to continue that momentum against Koloff. He started out strong until Koloff shook off a shoulder tackle and rebounded on offense. Koloff quickly roughed up Afa, Jr. and then nailed him with a Backbreaker to score the pin. It was a very impressive win for Koloff who remains one of the more feared talents in LOW.
3) Joyce Grable & Simply Luscious defeated Penny Banner & Alere Little Feather:
The Ring Angels division of LOW was featured as Penny Banner & Alere Little Feather teamed up to battle Joyce Grable & Simply Luscious. All four women will be part of the upcoming Battle Royal at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan (Card #1001) to crown the first Ring Angels champion but in this match cooperation was key. It was a fairly even battle throughout including all four women hitting their respective finishers for near falls. There were also some timely pin saves made, particularly by Banner who saved Little Feather after Luscious laid her out with the Luscious Landing. Banner also picked up a huge near fall on Luscious with the Sunset Flip. In the end it was Grable and Luscious coming out on top by preventing Banner from tagging in as they got the heat on Little Feather. The finish saw Luscious stun Little Feather with a headbutt before executing a Snap Suplex into a floatover to score the pin.
4) Giant Bernard & Dan Spivey defeated New Age Outlaws by Count Out:
The New Age Outlaws (B.G. James & Kip James) had the tough task of taking on Giant Bernard & “Dangerous” Dan Spivey. There have been strong rumors of both teams seeking different opportunities in LOW but for now all four men are still a part of the GWA roster. The Outlaws were dominant for most of the early portion of the match including laying Spivey out with a spike piledriver. Bernard used his awesome size to his advantage hitting crushing moves like the running avalanche and the Baldo Bomb. Kip had the upper hand on Spivey late in the bout until a corner charge resulted in a knee to the head. Spivey followed up with a big boot to the face on Kip scoring a near fall. He then fired Kip out of the ring and distracted the referee while Bernard took over. Bernard proceeded to level Kip with the Bernard Driver on the floor and the end result was that he was counted out of the ring. Bernard and Spivey continued an impressive recent march towards a shot at the LOW World tag team titles.
5) Fabulous Kangaroos & Wild Red Berry defeated Mil Mascaras, Super Crazy, & Halcon Oro:
It was a homecoming for freelance star Mil Mascaras as he returned to Mexico teaming up with fellow luchadores Super Crazy & Halcon Oro to battle the Fabulous Kangaroos (Al Costello & Roy Heffernan) along with their manager Wild Red Berry in trios action. The crowd support for Mascaras was off the charts particularly due to his recent challenge made to Andre the Giant for a match at WrestleCade X. Mascaras was in top form throughout the match including hitting his trademark Flying Bodypress on Heffernan but the pin was broken up. The Kangaroos used some solid double-team attacks and along with Berry got the heat on Crazy for an extended stretch. Berry, the manager of the Kangaroos, was appearing in only his tenth match in LOW but he has notable technical skills which he used during his time in. The turning point in the bout came when Crazy was going for the Triple Moonsault but Heffernan blocked the third flip with a double knee to the midsection. The finish of a hard fought bout saw the Kangaroos catch Crazy with the body block catapult. That set up Berry tagging in and out of view of the referee he executed Smash With Cane on Crazy to score the pin. The crowd jeered the decision but after settling down cheered heavily for Mascaras as Crazy and Oro lifted him up on their shoulders.
6) PWI Invitational Cup Tournament Qualifying Match: Gorgeous George defeated 2 Cold Scorpio:
The qualifying round of the tournament concluded with the first of two big matches as GWA star 2 Cold Scorpio took on flamboyant NWC star Gorgeous George who was accompanied by his ever present valet Cherie Dupre. George took exception to both the ringsiders and Scorpio and had Dupre spray her perfume atomizer in order to “cleanse his surroundings”. Scorpio to get at George but the referee stepped in between the two men before officially calling for the bell to start the match. Scorpio took control early and stunned George with a German Suplex. It was Dupre that turned the tide when she interfered hooking the leg of Scorpio out of view of the referee as he rebounded off of the ropes. Scorpio appeared to hurt his ankle as a result and George went to the figure four leglock and Spinning Toe Hold looking to score a submission victory. Scorpio showed great toughness by warding that off but in the end George caught him in a second Spinning Toe Hold and that resulted in Scorpio being forced to tap out. George won it by submission and will now face The Crusher in the opening round of the tournament during WrestleCade X weekend.
7) PWI Invitational Cup Tournament Qualifying Match: The Mountie defeated Jon Moxley:
The final qualifying round match featured another GWA star as the unhinged Jon Moxley took on PCW star The Mountie who had Sherri Martel, the head of Sherri Sports Agency, Inc., in his corner. The presence of Martel, a record eight-time SHIMMER champion, gave The Mountie a huge advantage but Moxley is not one to fear any type of disadvantage. He forged ahead and went toe-to-toe with The Mountie throughout the early going. Both men traded near falls before Moxley hit the Double Arm DDT only to have Martel distract the referee. That gave The Mountie a reprieve and he came back hitting the Short Choke Slam for a big near fall. Moxley would fight back hard, though, and The Mountie was busted open during a brawl on the outside. Another Double Arm DDT looked to finish of The Mountie but again Martel interfered. She paid for it that time as Moxley tripped her up on the ring apron causing her to face plant to the floor. The crowd was going wild by this point and after another battle outside it was Moxley that was busted open. Moxley began a spirited comeback but then The Mountie cut that off and blasted him with a dropkick. He then motioned to Martel to draw the attention of the referee and he used that opportunity to zap Moxley with the Shock Stick. Moxley collapsed to the mat leading to The Mountie covering him to score the pin. The crowd jeered the decision as Martel rushed in to help her man up. The Mountie survived a double juice brawl and has advanced to the opening round of the tournament where he will take on Magnum T.A.
8) LOW Junior Heavyweight title: Danny Hodge defeated Exotic Adrian Street to win the title:
The main event was a rematch for the LOW Junior Heavyweight title as five-time former champion Danny Hodge took on the man who defeated him for the belt – Exotic Adrian Street who was accompanied by both his valet Miss Linda and his associate Paul London. Hodge argued with the referee over the presence of London and it paid off as London was ejected from ringside much to the delight of the crowd. Hodge looked very determined to regain the title as he barely gave Street a chance to breathe from the opening bell. A sleeper hold nearly put Street out as Miss Linda was unable to provide a distraction but the champion somehow got to the ropes for a break. Hodge followed up his attack and was able to execute the Oklahoma Side Roll but this time London ran down and dove into the ring breaking up the pin. The referee could have easily called for a disqualification but instead he called for LOW officials to drag London out of the ring ejecting him for a second time. Street made a brief comeback but was then busted open by Hodge who looked to be seriously intent on victory by this point. The finishing sequence saw Hodge trap the bloody Street in an Abdominal Stretch in mid-ring and another attempted distraction by Miss Linda failed as the referee ordered her off of the ring apron. Street was losing it and as Hodge cinched on the guillotine like hold the referee made a judgment call and called for the bell. Hodge was awarded the victory via submission and won the LOW Junior Heavyweight title for the sixth time. The referee awarded the purple and pink championship belt to Hodge but he respectfully declined it as he will no doubt seek to get back the original title belt from the offices of LOW. London returned and assisted Miss Linda in helping a bloody Street back to the locker room after the tough loss. Hodge met with some local reporters afterward and said that he was going to nominate London to face him for the title at WrestleCade X as he wants to get his hands on the man that his disgraced the junior heavyweight division with his actions.
