8) LOW World tag team titles: Killer Bees (Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell) defeated Midnight Express© (“Loverboy” Dennis Condrey & “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton, with Jim Cornette) by DQ
Match Highlights:
The Killer Bees (Brain Blair & Jim Brunzell) came extremely close to winning the LOW World tag team titles from the Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton) before a packed house at the Omni. Manager Jim Cornette, in the corner of the champions, did his best to make sure that the belts didn’t change hands. It was a hard-fought bout with both Blair and Eaton being busted open and featured the Bees utilizing Masked Confusion much to the dismay of Cornette. Blair chased after Cornette at one point when the manager distracted the referee potentially costing the Bees a title win. The finish saw Brunzell nearly having Eaton going under from a Sleeper Hold when Cornette jumped into the ring and hit him across the back with the tennis racquet. The referee immediately called for the bell awarding the Killer Bees a disqualification victory but allowing the Express to survive a version one title defense. Cornette ordered his men to assault the Bees post-match and they tied the bloody Blair up in the ropes before putting the boots to Brunzell. An attempted double-team move was prevented when two men charged the ring and blitzed Condrey and Eaton with flying dropkicks as Cornette dove out to the floor. The Express followed their manager as a euphoric crowd cheered the arrival of none other than the Rock N’ Roll Express, Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson, longtime rivals of Cornette and his men.
An exasperated Cornette grabbed the mic and said: “What the hell are you two goofs doing here, you don’t even work here! Security get these men out of the ring! Dennis, Bobby what is going on this is a nightmare.” As Condrey and Eaton held Cornette up by the arms a fired-up Morton grabbed the mic while Gibson helped the referee and Brunzell free Blair from the ropes. Morton responded: “Hey Cornette, mama’s boy, what you see here is just the beginning. It’s rock n’ roll time once again, baby. Tomorrow we are flying up to New York to officially sign our contracts with LOW and then we are going on over to the Nassau Coliseum to have our first match with the CWA. Once we get on track there will be no stopping us, so Midnight Express shine up those title belts because rock n’ roll is here to stay, whooo!” Cornette had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the back by his men while the crowd cheered wildly for Morton and Gibson who no doubt look to make their mark in LOW.
Kings Road United star Tiger Mask made a successful version two defense of the LOW Junior Heavyweight title turning back a strong challenge from Sabu, who was accompanied by his manager Abdullah Farouk. Sabu dominated the early portion of the match, but the turning point came when he missed a Triple Jump Moonsault. It gave Tiger Mask an opening and he took advantage of it. There was some more give and take, including Sabu kicking out of the Tiger Suplex, before Tiger Mask caught him with a bridging Back Suplex for the pin…The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson), also of KRU, claimed the number two spot in the B Block of the ongoing Real World Tag League tournament by beating Ring of Honor representatives War Machine (Hanson & Raymond Rowe). With both block winners decided the remaining matches are for pride so the Bucks have that spot at least until Power Surge competes against Red Bastien & Billy Red Lyons on the final night of the tournament in Long Island, NY (Card #1145). The Bucks won it with a Meltzer Driver and afterward gave a “one sweet” salute.
Quite a rivalry is brewing between Magnum T.A. and “Ravishing” Rick Rude who is managed by J.J. Dillon. Magnum lost their first meeting by disqualification but this time at the Omni he came loaded for bear. Dillon wound up being ejected from ringside when he distracted the referee while Magnum had Rude pinned with the Belly to Belly Suplex. Rude dominated for a good stretch after that before Magnum hit a second Belly to Belly Suplex for a snake eyes pin. Dillon returned and tried to set up Magnum for an attack when suddenly Curt Hennig, who earlier defeated Timber of LOW All-Star Wrestling, ran in and made the save. Dillon and Rude retreated but later challenged Magnum and Hennig to show up on the next card in Long Island. LOW Commissioner Charlie Cox sent word that he has approved a tag team match, so it will be Magnum and Hennig going up against Rude and C.W. Anderson at the Nassau Coliseum.
Another intense rivalry involves Bruiser Brody and Kevin Sullivan, the head of the Army of Darkness. Sullivan had a great night in Atlanta as he and his men came away undefeated. Sullivan was in the corner for BJ Whitmer & Blackwater as they scored an upset win over fan favorites Tommy Rich & Jimmy Valiant. Sullivan got involved pulling the referee out of the ring when Valiant had Whitmer trapped in the Sleeper Hold. That set up a low blow from Whitmer for a big near fall before Blackwater nailed Valiant with the Shining Wizard for the pin. Later it was Sullivan, Lord Zoltan and “The Punishment” Damien Martinez taking on the dream team of Brody, Bobo Brazil and Blackjack Mulligan. Martinez proved to be a dominant force in the match including going toe-to-toe with Brody at one point. The finish of a wild bout saw Sullivan score the fall on Brazil after executing the Double Foot Stomp.
