My three day, end of game year event Starcade is coming! Day one is a Press conference. Days two and three are the matches, 20 in all
**News and Notes from the Starcade Press Conference**
-The biggest surprise, literally and figuratively, came when Andre The Giant made an appearance. Andre simply said to watch for his debut sometime after Starcade!!
-Jim Duggan was able to make it to the conference, even with a patch over his left eye. He said that what The Sheik did to him was despicable. (In Central States Wrestling, The Sheik took Duggans eye out with a railroad spike.) Duggan continued to say that, even though doctors have neither confirmed nor denied whether he could wrestle again. "Hacksaw" has faith that he will make a return. He then gave a trademark "HOOOOOOOOOOO" before he left.
-Many wrestlers were wearing items to honor Jim Duggan.
-Security had to get involved when Iron Sheik, Sheik, Ivan Koloff, Nikolai Volkoff, Terrible Turk, Nikita Breznikov, Abdullah Farouk, The Vachons and Boris Zhukov appeared with their Anti-America spiel. More than one wrestler attempted to attack any of the members of the coalition, including a returning Rob Van Dam. RVD was hit with a fireball to the face on the same program that Sheik accosted Jim Duggan. Iron Sheik commented that he has the best trainers in the world for his Russian chain match. He then thanked Ivan Koloff, Nikolai Volkoff and Boris Zhukov for their support.
-Nick Bockwinkle and Frank Gotch had an intense moment. The two got nose to nose for a photo opp that got a little antsy for the opponents. The two, who haven't been in the same area together, let alone this close, since their clash at Clash of the Champions 3, were jawing back and forth with each other. It appeared that Bockwinkle spit at Gotch which caused the almost melee to start.
-Central States Wrestling, which last month announced the "points championship series". Teams of 4 compete for a money prize and the right to challenge for any title at any time. These are the teams that are confirmed with more to be announced.
The Iron Sheik, Terrible Turk, Nikolai Volkoff and Boris Zhukov Ivan Koloff, The Sheik, The Vachons Team Canada- The Mountie, Angelo Mosca, Billy Lyons, Dewey Robertson The Varsity Club- Steve Williams, Bob Roop, Danny Hodge, Dick Hutton Team Million Dollar Corp- Mike DiBiase, Masked Superstar, Masked Superstar II, Rick Rude
-Killer Kowalski mentioned that after he defeats Rikidozan for the United States Title, he will challenge the NWA Champion on the next card.
-Rikidozan responded by saying that Kowalski has to make it through him first.
-Steve Williams seemed fine after being hit with Sheiks fireball on the last CSW show before Starcade. He said he can’t wait to get his hands on Iron Sheik in the russian chain match.
-Sir Oliver Humnperdink led Maurice Tillet, George “The Animal” Steele and One Man Gang to the stand. He said that the “House of Humperdink” has finally arrived in the NWA. Everyone should look out because he is letting his beasts loose!
-East Coast Wrestling Champion Johnny Valentine said that he will defeat Gorgeous George to retain his title. Valentine was unusually cocky here.
-When asked about the New Age Outlaws chances of winning the NWA Tag Team Titles, Manager of the champs, Jim Cornette said, “Who!”
-Bill Watts, spokesman for the NWA and the board of directors said that each territory will have their own PPV card next year.
-Paul Heyman came out to a standing ovation and a "please don't leave" chant. He said that he would not be gone forever and to keep a look out sooner rather than later!

STARCADE Day 1
Ford Field Detroit, MI
Schvione: "Welcome fans to Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan for Starcade! I'm Tony Schvione. Next to me Jim Ross, Lance Russell and Joey Styles."
Ross: "Thanks Tony. A jam packed two days of action for you starting tonight. The NWAs final show of the year. This promises to be a spectacle like never before."
Russell: "Thats for sure guys. And we start off Starcade with a tag match Joey."
Styles: "You are about to witness two of the best tag teams in wrestling today gentlemen."
The Young Bucks vs Londrick: "Londrick has signed with West Coast Championship Wrestling but agreed to meat The Young Bucks for their first match. These two teams opened up Starcade in thrilling fashion. Both teams showed off their incredible high flying maneuvers and aerial attacks. After several near falls, Paul London pinned Nick Jackson after an "Oklahoma sideroll". 25:57 Both teams shook hands and received a standing ovation from the crowd.
Ross: "What a remarkable tag match to start. I could see big things from both teams in the near future."
CSW Tag Team Championship: Ivan Koloff and Nikolai Volkoff (C) vs The Crusaders: A rematch for the titles. The first match, Dewey was rendered unconscious in a backstage attack. That forced Lyons to fight a one on two match that he lost. The Crusaders put up a decent fight but when Nikolai entered the ring, he had enough. "throat drop on the ropes" to Lyons is all he needed. 8:01
Al Snow and D Lo Brown vs John Pesek and Ed Lewis: Wow, humiliating match for Al Snow. He was countered by Pesek, tried to leave the ring after a "lateral press keylock" but was cutoff by Pesek. Pesek tagged in Lewis who immediately locked on the 'STRANGLERS HEADLOCK" for the victory. Snow tapped out quickly, before D Lo could even go for a save. 2:30
No Disqualification Match Don Muraco W/Sherrie Martel vs Dan Severn: Short but intense fight. Severn used a "shoulder slam" for the win. 9:12
Todd Grisham: "Todd Grisham standing by with my guest at this time. He challenges Nick Bockwinkle late this evening for the WCCW Championship. I'm talking about none other than "Superfly' Jimmy Snuka. Jimmy, huge match tonight. What are your thoughts?"
Snuka: "Bockwinkle. I got you where I want you jack. Outside interference can't help you like last time. It's just you and me. The belt is mine."
Ring Of Destiny Tag Team Championship: Mike Quakenbush and Ricky Landell (C) vs Brent Albright and Timber: Another intense tag match this evening. The speed of Quakenbush and Landell vs the power of Albright and Timber. Quack and Landell started off hot and got some pin attempts but Timber and Albright reversed the tide. Timber and Albright dominated for a while and seemed to have the match sewed up. But Landell and Quakenbush made a hell of a comeback. Landell hit the "gut wrench suplex" on Timber to pick up the win. 26:43
WCCW Tag Team Championship: The Road Warriors vs The Ortons: This is for the inaugural WCCW Tag Titles. The Road Warriors brutalized Bob Orton Jr. Bob Sr. never saw action as Animal threw Jr out of the ring and nailed him with a powerbomb on the floor for the countout victory 3:11
First Blood Match: Curt Hennig vs Ray "The Crippler" Stevens: Curt comes to the ring with his trademark towel. Hennig was fired up for this match. He nailed Stevens with "Axe" after "Axe". He laid Ray on a table and jumped off of the turnbuckle with a flying leg/chair drop right on the face. Ray came up bleeding to end the match. 15:49 After the match, Ted DiBiase hit the scene and drilled Curt over the head with Bockwinkles NWA Championship. Curt was busted open. DiBiase laid into him until Larry Hennig and Crusher came out.
Title can change hands due to outside interference: WCCW Championship Nick Bockwinkle (C)W/Heenan vs Jimmy Snuka: Both men battled back and forth. Snuka reversed a move. Leap frogged Bockwinkle and chopped him and then went up top and nailed the "flying headbutt" for the victory. 5:26 Bockwinkle got up immediately and claimed his tights were held but to no avail. Jimmy Snuka is the new WCCW Champion!
NWA Cruiserweight Championship: Jim Londos (C) vs JD Michaels: Michaels used his small power advantage and turned the tide. It took three "TOP ROPE ELBOW DROP"s but he finally pinned Londos. 4:09
**Backstage, Ted DiBiase is seething.
DiBiase: "The Ortons lost. The Crippler lost and even The Champ lost. Bruiser; end this day on a high note for us and I give you a hell of a bonus."
Bruiser Brody vs George Hackenschmidt: Brody injured Hack a little over a month ago. Brody whipped Hack into the ropes but Hack caught him with a stun gun on the top rope. Hackenschmidt locked on the "RUSSIAN BEAR HUG" for the quick win. 1:22
**A cut of the backstage area and DiBiase is livid. He's throwing anything he can find.
End of day one

Thanks Jason and Hotfuzz
STARCADE Day 2
Ford Field Detroit, MI
Ross: "Day one is in the books and welcome to day number two of Starcade. Huge, huge matches this evening. Highlighted by the finale. For the NWA Championship, Nick Bockwinkle defends against Frank Gotch in an Iron Man Match.
Schvione: "Gentlemen, day one was big. We saw, if not the best than one of the best tag matches ever as Londrick defeated The Young Bucks. Koloff and Volkoff retained their tag belts. The Road Warriors became the first WCCW Tag Champs. Lots happened last night and more will happen this evening."
Savage T and a mystery partner vs UltraMantis Black and Crossbones: Ultra Black and Crossbones are out first. Savage T comes out by himself. Black and Crossbones start to mock T by saying that he could not find a partner. Savage T just shrugs. Suddenly "Change" by Deftones plays and out walks Rob Beaubien. He motions to the back and out walks.......................UMAGA!!! ( I originally came up with this while Rob was in the hospital. It was Rob who came up with the Umagapottomus card. So this is now a double sided tribute. Thanks to Rob for showing everyone of us, that while things may look bleak....it's not what you are dealing with, it's how you deal with them. And to Eddie "Umaga" Fatu. RIP dude.)
The match: Unfortunaltely, there was no happy ending. Black and Crossbones isolated Umaga and it took a hell of a beating, but Umaga was pinned By UltraMantis Black after a "Japanese Ocean Cyclone Suplex" with Crossbones holding Umagas feet for extra leverage. 5:00
Battle Royal: NWA Womens Championship; Daizee Haze, Sara Del Rey, April Hunter, Trinity DeNucci, Penny Banner, Sherie Martel, Ida Mae Martinez: DeNucci eliminates Hunter, Haze eliminates Del Rey, Martel elimintes Martinez, DeNucci eliminates Banner, Martel eliminates Haze and DeNucci as both those women were fighting near the ropes. Sherie Martel is the first NWA Womens Champion!!
East Coast Wrestling Tag Team Championship: The Fabulous Kangaroos W/Red Berry vs Larry Hennig and Da Crusher: Hennig and Crusher almost won. But after the Kangaroos dealt with the initial assault and wore Crusher down. Hennig became easy pickens for the double team pummel that defeated him. The Fabulous Kangaroos are the first ECW Tag Team Champions! 19:11
Barbed Wire Cage Match; Bob Roop vs The Sheik: The Sheik continues his sadistic, winning ways He stabbed Bob Roop with the railroad spike. Rammed hiw face into the barbed wire circled cage and bit his forehead. Roop was bleedeing profusely and finally gave up to the "CAMEL CLUTCH". 5:14
Ring Of Destiny Championship: Chris Hero (C) vs Drake Younger: Hero grabbed the win following a "big boot" after Younger kicked out from the "HEROS WELCOME" 5:42
NWA Tag Team Championship: MidNight Express (C) vs New Age Outlaws: The Outlaws were game but The Express are just too good. Condrey pinned Billy Gunn after a "gut wrench suplex". 15:24
East Coast Wrestling Championship: Johnny Valentine (C) vs Gorgeous George W/Ms. Dupre: George demands that the ring be sprayed with perfume before his match, to "get rid of the stench of all the other animals that have disgraced this ring". Gorgeous George was reeling when he slid out of the ring for a breather. Valentine was right out after him though. They got into a huge brawl. George, trying to escape the beating, reached into Ms. Dupres purse and pulled out the perfume bottle. Well, it appeared to be that. It was really pepper spray that George discharged into the eyes of Valentine. As if noone would notice(!), he continued to punch Valentine but the ref disqualified him for the act. 6:56 The ringside seating area had to be evacuated for a spell while they tried to get rid of the pepper spray.
Central States Wrestling Championship; Russian Chain Match: Iron Sheik (C) vs Steve Williams: Iron Sheik took advantage that Williams was still not 100% from the beating from Sheik. Iron Sheik wrapped the chain around the thoat of Williams and then he used some leverage to pick Williams up by the chain into a "vertical suplex" for the win. 3:32
Todd Grisham: "Todd Grisham here and we are just moments away from the NWA Championship. I'm with former NWA Champion Frank Gotch. You attempt to regain the NWA Championship in the first Iron Man Match. How do you feel?"
Gotch: "I feel good. The more important question is how does Bockwinkle feel? He's lost his last two matches. And he hasn't looked to hot in those matches. I've been training ever since the day he beat me for that title. I've reviewed the tapes and I know what I did wrong. I'm not underestimting him though. He's the champ for a reason. But if I stick to my gameplan; I'll beat him."
Grisham: Whats your gameplan?"
Gotch just smiles and walks away.
United States Championship: Rikidozan vs Killer Kowalski: Kowalski escaped the "HIPLOCK" and locked on a "CLAW HOLD" for the win. 5:42 Killer Kowalski is the new United States Champion! The two fan favorites bow to each other in a sign of respect.
NWA Championship; 60 minute Iron Man Match: Nick Bockwinkle (C) vs Frank Gotch: Things got off to a fast and furious start. Both men went for big moves early on. And countered each other early on. Gotch locked on the "GOTCH TOEHOLD" but Bockwinkle made the ropes. Bockwinkle locked on a "FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK" for a tapout win @7:30; Another series of counters before Gotch locked in another "GOTCH TOEHOLD" and Nick tapped @12:22; Bockwinkle came back to lock in the "FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK" @13:24 Bock 2 Gotch 1; The two went back and forth again. Gotch kept fighting off the figure four and finally was able to lock in the "GOTCH TOEHOLD" @33:30 Bock 2 Gotvh 2, Bockwinkle locks in the "BOCKWINKLE SLEEPER" for the first time @41:00 Bock 3 Gotch 2, Gotch charged at Bockwinkle but he moved and Gotch fell to the floor. Bockwinkle went outside and slammed his face into the concrete floor. He threw Gotch back inside and locked on the "BOCKWINKLE SLEEPER" again and Gotch tapped quickly @42:17 Bock 4 Gotch 2, Bockwinkle may have put it away now, as he locked in another "BOCKWINKLE SLEEPER" for a big advantage @44:32 Bock 5 Gotch 2, Gotch, trying desperately to get back in this thing, sensing that perhaps, time is running out, locks in the "GOTCH TOEHOLD" so hard that Bockwinkle had to tap wayyy quicker than he wanted to @49:17 Bock 5 Gotch 3, Bockwinkle swung at Gotch who ducked and spun Bockwinkle around and into an "Iowa Backdrop" for a pin @49:56 Bock 5 Gotch 4, Bockwinkle jumped on offense quick and stayed that way. He gained another pin after a "back suplex" @53:14 Bock 6 Gotch 4, Bockwinkle trying to add insult to injury or maybe the other way around. Gotch tapped to an "abdominal stretch" @54:11 Bock 7 Gotch 4, And insult to injury Bockwinkle got, as he locked in the "BOCKWINKLE SLEEPER" and forced Gotch to tap right at 60:00 Bockwinkle 8-Gotch 4
Bockwinkle and Gotch are completely spent. Seemingly, from nowhere though, The Iron Sheik comes into the ring and locks on the 'CAMEL CLUTCH" on Bockwinkle!! Bockwinkle, already spent from wrestling 60 minutes, taps immediately but Iron Sheik refuses to break it.
Ross: "I don't like Bockwinkle but he is slated to tour Central States Wrestling where Iron Sheik is the Champion over there. This is despicable."
Schvione: "I've been calling them despicable for months now JR. This is nothing new for me."
Finally, DiBiase, Brody, Bundy, Rude, The Ortons and The Masked Superstars come to the aid of Bockwinkle. Iron Sheik releases the hold and leaves through the crowd, where he has his private security waiting for him.
