It's been two years since I bought the 2122 POW MMA Throwdown stuff, which is my first CoTG product. I tried it a couple times, then disappeared as life got busy (new kid, new job, some business ventures) and now have some time to play again.
Just wondering about the Handbook and stories...is it just stories or do people use it as a guideline to get things underway? I'm reading through it now (great read by the way!) and see some basics of feuds and storylines played out. I like how all the dates of events are there, so may use it as a basis for my setup.
Is this something other people are doing to get things underway?

Truthfully I never read the books for the MMA. I just let the fighting guide me and work up some basic underlying story like the UFC does. I model my POW MMA as much after the UFC as possible.

You really should give them a read, if for nothing more than the writing. It's a superb story!
The reason I ask how others handle the book is that it really gives some good history of the characters, and builds them up so that I actually care who does what. I was going to just do things on my own, like you do, but I don't know any of these guys and found it hard to get into things.
Playing with familiar fighters makes it more interesting for me. Are these guys from the old CoTG stuff? This is my first package so it's all I have to go on. I'm almost through the first book, so will get things going after that.

Hey Short Bus, thanks for checking in with your thoughts on the POW stories.
I can tell you that I like dating the events that happen so that people who want to have clear timelines (like TV shows/vidcasts) can use them as build-up material, if they so choose. It also just helps me when I'm writing to keep events straight.
If I understand one of your questions correctly, some of the POW fighters have been in the GWF before but migrated to the POW over the years since 2109. It's kind of fun for me to reimagine them in a different sort of combat, although some who are top-flight wrestlers might only be so-so at MMA, and vice-versa.

I'm still reading the Handbook for 2122 in my spare time, should finish it tonight. I went ahead and looked at the last dates and noticed it ends in December, so I'm thinking the idea is to start the new year with my new POW fed and see where the dice take me.
I bought 2123 and just received a pm about 2124 coming out soon, so I do need to get my action underway. I suppose I would have answered my own questions if I'd just read the book first, but thanx for the responses and info!
