Heading into May 2089 for my annual Ring Warrior tournament, Thantos frustration was beginning to show. Keeping good guys vs. bad guys except on special occasions was the CotG committee's plan. Thantos was worthy of #1 contender status for Spike's title for awhile, but his next opportunity to earn a shot was at the Ring Warrior tournament. Thantos let his emotions get the best of him.
The supercard prior to the Ring Warrior tournament he was set to face Star Warrior. He attacked Star Warrior before the bell, but when the ref went to break it up he leveled the referee as well. The CotG committee decided to fire Thantos right there on the spot! How in the world can he work or earn his way back into the fed and how long should I leave him out before his attempted return? Any ideas?
He already missed the Ring Warrior tournament which was eventually won by Invincible Krakan. What now?

Bring him back as a face under a mask...until he eventually turns on Star Warrior in a crucial moment and de-masks! Graymar

Thantos is THE GAMEMASTER. I think he should plot and scheme his way back in some way. He should find a loophole or make a dirty deal. I don't think he would earn his way back in as much as trick his way back in.

yeah, the classic masked angle is always fun. I'd think it would work best if he didn't wrestle too much like his old self, but that's up to preference.

Better yet, have him emerge as Avenging Warrior under the mask, further confusing Star Warrior. That'd be a great angle to see unfold if he ever turned on him.

How in the world can he work or earn his way back into the fed and how long should I leave him out before his attempted return? Any ideas? Its a shame that the catalyst for the suspension was an attack on someone you can't build a connecting program with (a nameless/faceless referee). If it was someone you could amplify than you could enhance both Thantos and his mark. If you interpret your Fed as having an 'intelligent' CotG Committee (one which wouldn't fall for the Thantos wearing a mask scheme) you can use this as an opportunity to add some more dimension to his character. In the real world how would a fallen superstar athlete try to win his way back into a big time sports organization? One path is through a public rehabilitation process. You can create segments that build up the Gamemaster's attempt to appeal the decision. Have him make a public statement surrounded by his attorney, family, agent, corporate sponsors, etc. Imagine a vignette from his home in Maffei II recapping what made him want to become a wrestler in the first place. Drive home what motivates him to do the things he does. Recap his career up to this point with a retrospective feature. The departure of such a monumental figure would be viewed as huge internally. Go to the locker room and showcase comments from other active GWF superstars voicing their thoughts on whether or not the sport is really better off without him. Create a mock public opinion poll. Craft a Thantos public appearance as a community leader at a charity event. Then once you decide that the committee will 'legally' bring Thantos back to the GWF his character will be more fleshed out than ever. He will have benefited from the process. Sometimes taking a character outside the box 'away from the ring' pays a nice dividend. It can keep a star (and the scene as a whole) fresh. Real world promoters used to do it all the time...that is until the talent pool contracted and the medium became television intensive under near monopoly conditions.

Heh, funny you mention this, as I am having a similar storyline in my GWF. Main difference is that he is merely suspended for a while and not fired. I also have a particular ending in mind (which I won't spoil for those who, astonishingly, read my fed posts). At the moment, I have a masked man named The GameMaster in Thantos' spot (who may or may not actually be him...)
Of course, your situation is a bit different. I would actually think a fun way to work him back would be almost the opposite of LWPD's suggestion in that rather than making him a sympathetic figure, let him go nuts! Let him become a "Loose Cannon" type. Subtly at first, maybe have him simply sitting at ringside and then in future months/cards have him start interfering on the undercard. Maybe he even takes out a guy or two...you can see where this is going, so I won't waste the bandwidth by continuing....but it might be a fun thing to try....

Remember those old promos in WCW with Chris Jericho? Where he would constantly be seen in the WCW library looking over various rule books, in order to regain a belt he rightly lost! Yeah… do a couple of those with Thantos, before he finds a loophole and returns!
