Greetings and Happy Easter to all!!
I wanted to know if there were any other COTG'ers out there who: A) don't follow the clearly established feuds and progression of the official game?
and B) who tend to mix original and older GWF stars into storylines/feuds with the current GWF (et al) roster(s)?
Some of us have had this discussion before on other boards. Frankly, I think following the booklets is way too unimiaginative for this type of game, BUT I spent my first five years (I've been rollin' the tiny dice since 1990 and still diggin' it the most, thank you very much!) playing "by the book" and found it a little weird stepping away. Clearly, that's no longer the case.
I'm anxious to find out who plays differently and whether you feel like your fed's better as a result. So talk to me, America (he says in his best Bernie Mac voice).

From the very beginning I have done both of these things in my fed. I picked who I wanted & put them into teams & went from there. It was a blast to see how Monolith fared against the likes of Star Warrior, Chaos & Thantos (among others). I am very proud to be one of the very few who follow & develop their own storylines within their feds, instead of follow the direction of the game manual. If you are interested you can read about it here: Eliath's IWF

Great topic. Right from the start, I tried to stay true to Tom's vision for the fed...and because he was the one who created the characters...the feuds and storylines he created do work and have provided a great framework to run my fed...
BUT...I also wanted throw in some of my own ideas. In 2087 for example, I still had Mighty Grogan and Polarity wrestle in my fed even after they had 'officially' left the fed in 2086...and in my NB fed, Desolation Factor never left...and are valuable members of my tag team division. I also will debut guys early if it seems like the right time or if things have gotten a little stale and I need to shake things up a bit.
I also don't have a problem having guys team up with other wrestlers on the side...or leaving their ‘official’ group to join another or fly solo. I also find that in order to link game editions, I have to be creative with who wrestlers team up with or feud with so it makes sense when the new game year comes around. The Bloodline/Encubus story in 2121 is a good example of this.
Having said all that, though, I think that the characters Tom creates are all petty much fully formed, well rounded and defined...but still give the player enough elbow room to adapt and tweak certain personalities to best fit their style of playing the game. Some players are very stat oriented...and numbers dictate who fights who and who gets a Title shot...so the structure of the book helps them, but even they will deviate from the script if the numbers don’t add up…but for me, I let the characters personalities take over...and try to imagine what is motivating each wrestler on the roster. Sometimes, that just doesn't mesh with what Tom has laid out...and while I respect promoters who stick to the handbook...for me, I find that one of the great benefits of playing this game is expanding and flexing my own imagination...and seeing where it takes me.

I run two feds currently, I am in the Early classics year of 2077 and mainly do storylines with an occasional change here or there and plan on doing this throughout the editions mainly to see how the wrestlers stack up to other peoples feds. So I do this rather quickly and have stopped posting due to everyone pretty much knowing what is going to happen.
My second fed is like Eliath's except I use LOW and bootlegs as well (not powerful ones though), and mix up wrestlers when needing a fresh angle or feud. This is the one I really get into and do not post this one either. Mainly becuase most people do not mix LOW and COTG due to several discussions on the other board. I am very happy doing this and it makes it that much more fun. Basically I add the new edition wrestlers when I get to that year.
I call this the UWA (Universal Wrestling Alliance), due to being able to bring wrestlers from all feds. The basis of this is sort of like Kronos, but is all computer programmed with data from personalities of all wrestlers. Yeah it is unbeleivable bo so is the END game editions and what to hell, it is my fed.
SO do whatever makes the game enjoyable for you!!
Hope that little rant answered your question. ;D

Soon.
I'm on Spring Break - which means I'm rolling like crazy this week. I'll have some results up soon.
In keeping with the theme of the thread, I can tell you that Wolf, Thunder and Chaos are making a lot of waves in both my feds, and Dual champ (he's got the GWF and NUPW titles) Paralyze is stuck fending off these guys while trying to throw every available Aethran loyalist at a surging Monolith.
Chaos, Wolf, Thunder, OLD SCHOOL!!

I put my NUPW origins recap up on the Fed Forums page (for those who are interested). You'll see how my twisted little mind keeps guys like Massif, Chaos, Pegasus and other legends current and relevant in the current COTG universe.
