I also do my own thing. I have the first game edition, new beginning, invasion 2088 and come classics that i mix togther in my fed. I also have a few of my own guys mixed in there, but try to keep it mostly actual COTG wrestlers. I use some of the actual fueds, allies and enemies for guys and also create my own when need be. I have a lot of fun with this and it allows me to just let my immagination run wild. I run my fed old school - 4 PPV's a year with 2 Saturday Night Main event/Clash of champions type supercards as well.

I started out trying to follow the books, but to be honest, the dice just didn't let me.
Consider the case of Actagon, who I brought up in another thread. In or around 2088, he and Proteus were in their feud with the Norse Gods, and beating them--soundly--in pretty much every match. Kinda boring for a major tag feud, so I decided to try getting them involved in a nice 3x3 feud with the Ani-Men and the Gladiators. I had the Ani-Men attack Wolf ("once a Gladiator, always a Gladiator!") and the 'Gods came to his aid. This was much more captivating than the Norse Gods feus, and at some point in here, Proteus sustained an 8 or 10 card injury.
Actagon started taking on Spike (and winning!), then the Ani-Men, individually (and winning!), then Krakan and the rest of the roster, and he eventually earned a title shot against GWF Champion Wolf (his buddy) or IP Champion Star Warrior. He chose Warrior, and came this close: <> to winning the IP Title...but Warrior retained via a DQ loss. I had a rematch, and Warrior got DQ'ed again to retain the belt. Then Proteus was back, and Actagon fell back into tag team action.
About a year later, I'm looking for something to spice my fed up, because the feuds had gotten stale, and with only 5 new wrestlers in '89 and 4 in '90, I was missing the "new blood" influx of 12 guys in 2088. Specifically, I wanted a good feud for Star Warrior, who had either dominated (Bishop Hell, Mad Jester, Executioner) or been dominated by (Thantos) everyone I threw at him. It was hard not to remember Actagon's epic solo run and how Warrior had "screwed him" out of the IP Title... so the Actagon heel turn was born. And once I stopped trying to follow the "script," my enjoyment of the game skyrocketed.
CotG isn't like Monopoly, where the green properties are static because (a) you can't change their physical location and (b) you can't change their color. Not without physically damaging the game board. And really, who cares about the "shocking swerve" if Marvin Gardens suddenly "turns" on Ventnor and Atlantic and forms a cutting edge tag team with Park Place? You aren't moving an iron around a board--you're putting yourself in the role of the characters in the game, and not everyone is content to limit themselves to the role defined for them by the booklets.
That's the strength of the game, I think--or at least, it's supposed to be. The fact that you can take it and shape it any way you want. That's why it's so disheartening to hear people claim that using your own characters or changing allegiances or anything else is "wrong." There is no "wrong" way to play.

Man, I can't tell you how GREAT it is to hear people say this!! I think there's been a wrong-minded notion at times where people who didn't follow the script verbatim were somehow defying Tom Filsinger's wishes or cheapening the game. I've never felt that way. In fact, I've often felt like guys who take their own path are doing what Tom & company ultimately wanted this game to accomplish; we're becoming our very own highly creative promotors who are exploring new avenues of this game without any limitations.

I do the same thing. I have two feds running doing a wcw/wwe war thing. One fed is the gwf and the other is my bootleg fed called ecw. To keep things spiced up i would have some wrestlers from gwf leave for ecw and vice versa. If you don't mix things up a bit the game would be stale imo. I like the feuds tom set up, but haveing them drag on a while does get boreing for me. I like having bootlegs mix it up with gwf guys as long as they ain't stacked. I have myself in the game and i do get my butt handed to me alot, but having me in the game makes it more interesting for me. Its like i'm part of the gwf universe. So basicly what i'm saying is its your fed, you paid for it, run it how you want.

I follow the book mostly, but some of the wrestlers feud year after year, so you have to mix it up. Plus champions have to take on more than one guy. But yeah, i have been guilty of being a little too by the book. I really havn't turned any wrestlers heel or face either.
