Here is a little more of a review from me about yesterday's PWG show:
Because the show was on a Sunday afternoon, I drove over on Saturday night to make sure I would be there on time (the last 2 Saturday night PWG shows I literally just made it either right before or right as the show was starting). On Sunday, before the show, I met cman and we went to see Iron Man 2 which I thought was good but not as good as the first Iron Man which I own on DVD. Afterward, we ate some burgers at Red Robin and watched some of the NBA Playoffs before heading over to PWG.
It turns out our front row seats were only 3 or 4 seats away from where Gillian Jacobs was sitting. She is a star on the TV show "The Celebrity." At first I really had no clue who she was because I don't watch alot of TV other than sports, wrestling, and movies. But cman said she was a TV star and it was obvious she was somebody famous because alot of fans (including some PWG wrestlers themselves such as Scott Lost and both of the Cutlers) kept coming over to get their picture taken with her.
Although there is usually only about several hundred people at a PWG show (and last night's crowd was sort of small IMO- I think because it was on a Sunday night), Gillian Jacobs isn't the first celebrity I've seen at a PWG show. I remember seeing Lizzy Valentine at the bar early during PWG's Speed of Sound show last August and Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins was at PWG's Threemendous II show last July (Toaster Boy even commented on seeing Corgan there on his Twitter account).
I picked all the outcomes of the 4 first round matches correctly and I think my favorite of these 4 matches, which were all great, was Dragon Gate's KAMIKAZE vs the Briscoes which was the match that closed out the first round right before intermission.
At intermission I got to meet Chris Hero once again and I finally bought myself a Chris Hero shirt but Hero had to look through his box below the table to find one in my size which is medium. Also at the PWG merchandise table I bought a copy of PWG's "As the Worm Turns" show which I attended in February because I really wanted to own the match where Davey Richards became the PWG World Champion.
After intermission, I was sort of surprised to see the Young Bucks wrestle the Cutlers in the semi-finals since I thought that might be the matchup for the finals, but there was no way to really predict it since the brackets past the first round weren't revealed ahead of time. The crowd obviously really wanted the Cutlers to win and they kept shouting "next world champs, next world champs." Someday winning the PWG World Tag Team Championship will happen for the Cutlers IMO, but not yet as the Young Bucks won to advance to the finals against El Generico and Paul London who defeated the Briscoes in the other semi-finals matchup.
Paul London was hilarious the entire night. In the first round match for him and El Generico against Scott Lost and Chuck Taylor, they came out to El Generico's entrance music "Ole" and London was wearing a poncho, dark sunglasses, and a sombrero while singing along to El Generico's music through a megaphone. And during that match, Lost yelled out something like we're about to see the awesomest suplex of all time before he suplexed El Generico. London, from his corner, then got on his megaphone to say out loud through his megaphone that was actually the crappiest suplex of all time which upset Lost.
And while on his way to the finals with El Generico against the Young Bucks, London was again singing along to El Generico's entrance music "Ole" when he suddenly stopped right before my front row seat and placed the megaphone in front of me and wanted me to sing "Ole" while he held the megaphone for me. Perhaps if I had a couple of more beers (I only drank 2 beers the entire night) in me I might have done a better job of singing the Bouncing Souls "Ole" through the megaphone London was holding for me. But I also don't think London had the amplifier button on so not too many people heard me which is probably a good thing. And since PWG entrances don't make the DVDs, thankfully that won't be on the DVD for DDT4 2010. ;D
The finals matchup between the Young Bucks against El Generico and Paul London (they call themselves the Danger Bees) was one of the best matches I've ever seen at PWG period. At one point, the Young Bucks were arguing with senior referee Rick Knox and then they threw him into the ropes and tried to hit him but Knox instead ducked and rebounded again off the ropes on the opposite side of the ring to give a double clothesline to both of the Young Bucks which brought the entire building cheering and to its feet. If you know who Rick Knox is, then that incident by a referee really shouldn't sound unbelievable at all.
During the finals match, Nick Jackson reportedly suffered a concussion- yet, although he and Matt Jackson left for the back briefly they returned and still finished the match and still did an incredible job- I didn't even know Nick Jackson got a concussion in that match until I read about it today.
When the Danger Bees won to end the nearly two year reign of the Young Bucks as PWG World Tag Team Champions, the building practically exploded as PWG History was made! Although I sort of wanted the Young Bucks to win and keep their historical reign alive, I'm also glad to have El Generico and Paul London as the new PWG World Tag Team Champions too. Plus, although they lost, I still got to see live 3 more great matches from the Young Bucks throughout the tournament yesterday, so that was cool too.
I had an awesome time at PWG's DDT4 yesterday. I'm a big fan of tag team wrestling (which you know if you're aware of the major annual 64 tag team tournament I do every year for my Legends fed and which ironically takes place this week) so it was great to see a card where all but one match was a tag team match.
I'm not sure yet if I can make the drive over yet for PWG's June show, but I'm absolutely certain I'll be going to PWG's big 7th anniversary show in July.
