...otherwise known as TYLER BLACK, recently made his debut in Florida Championship Wrestling, losing a close match to Michael McGillicuddy, otherwise known as JOE HENNIG.
Does Vince actually retain someone on the payroll to come up with these names?! Or does he offer a bonus to the WWE lackey who can come up with the dumbest, meaningless name?!
If all wrestling except WWE ceased to exist...I'd play even more LEGENDS!

I remember reading in Mick Foley's first book about when he asked Vince McMahon why he couldn't just be Cactus Jack when he came to the WWF (I'm not afraid of a panda!) back in 1996, when they wanted him to be Mankind (and where Vince kept calling him "Mike" in their first meeting). Here is what was in the book...
Vince tried to be comforting but failed miserably with his words. "Mike, you've got to understand that the average fan sees wrestling as a glut of performers who seem to blend together. It is hard for our licensees to get behind our products, and hard for us to push your characters if there is no distinction between the competition and us. We feel that with this unique character, we can market Mike, and make Mike an even bigger star than he's ever been." His words made sense, and in retrospect the marketing of Mankind has been a great success, but at the time, I was thinking something altogether different. Not only did Vince not want the Cactus Jack I wanted to give him - he didn't want him at all. Poor Mike. He wasn't happy.

Thankfully we can keep him as Tyler Black in LOW/LOTF Don't really like the Seth Rollins name but it sounds like the silly names they have been coming up with for FCW/NXT guys. It's almost like they want them to fail before they can make an impact. Let's hope they change it if/when he makes it to WWE.

It will grow on me I am sure.
I hardly notice Kaval or Daniel Bryan anymore.
A rose by any other name blah blah

That's it, I am changing Tyler Black's name to Seth Rollins anytime he appears in any of my feds....but only under a mask! This way NO ONE will know who it is. Sarcasm attached

Not to be a jackass, but I don't really see how Seth Rollins is any worse than a name that he got by combining his favorite character from Fight Club and his favorite character from Harry Potter.

There are no hard consonants, which makes it sound soft. The "t" and "k" sounds are especially important if someone ever wants to get over in wrestling. The name "Tyler Black" has both; it's tailor made for wrestling. It's impossible to say the name "Seth Rollins" and sound tough or aggressive. It sounds more like a baseball player name than a wrestler. Thinks this seems silly? Think of ever major star in wrestling and you'll be hard pressed to come up with more than a handful of names that don't follow that pattern.

Couldn't agree more. It's simple psychology. People get used to something - they get attracted to something , and when it changes, their natural first instinct is to crap on it. I like the name Tyler Black too but it's not like it's some home run wrestling name. The name Tyler sounds a lot like Taylor, a girls name. Black is pretty generic. I'd be willing to bet if his name was never Tyler Black to begin with, was something else, and changed to "Tyler Black", some people would crap on that too. I like the name Seth Rollins. Henry Rollins of Black Flag and Rollins band (probably where they got the idea) /is was one of the toughest guys out there. That's what I think of when I hear "Rollins". Plus, they already have Tyler Reks.

Swarm,
You've got it all wrong; it's all about the "t" and the "k" sound. I'm telling you.
I always think of Jimmy Rollins. Or Rollie Fingers; he was an old pitcher with a big, goofy mustache. Maybe Seth could grow a big curly mustache. That would be pretty cool. They should give him a bowler hat, too. Bowler hats are awesome. "Rollins Fingers" would be a cool name. Except it has no "t" or "k" sound so he'd never get over.
