World’s Finest Wrestling "World Series of Wrestling" New York, NY Lou Thesz vs. John Pesek It wasn’t much of an opening match in what America has already dubbed the “world series of wrestling.” Thesz couldn’t handle the Pesek’s TIGER MAN TOEHOLD, which got him the first and second fall. Thesz, luckily, left the arena without any injuries. The “Nebraska Tiger Man” refused to shake hands after the match. Red Berry vs. Youssuf Ishmaelo It was a steady back-and-forth match with Berry striking strategically with underhanded attacks, while the “Terrible Turk” depended on his power and strength. Ishmaelo picked up the first fall with the STRANGLEHOLD, but he refused to break the hold when the referee called for the bell, giving Berry a win via disqualification. Berry then found a way to apply a surfboard for the final fall. George Hackenschmidt vs. Maurice Tillet The “Russian Lion” was surprised by the lack of actual wrestling skill from the “French Angel.” First, Hackenschmidt picked up a win via disqualification after Tillet carelessly whipped him into the guardrail. Lastly, Hackenschmidt unloaded on Tillet with his fists and finished him off with the RUSSIAN BEAR HUG. Jim Londos vs. William Muldoon Londos and Muldoon had the longest match of round one. Muldoon constantly took over Londos’ offensive attempts by suplexing the “Golden Greek” to the canvas. However, the “Solid Man” still fell to Londos’ AIRPLANE SPIN for the first fall and a sleeper grip for the second. Ed Lewis vs. Frank Gotch Even though every match was highly anticipated throughout the weekend, this was the “main event” for a lot of people. However, it wasn’t all that glorious. Many fans left due to Lewis’ bad condition, as it was highly difficult watching him wrestle through each defeat. His ankles and knees were nearly destroyed, and his brow was covered in blood. In the end, Gotch swept Lewis easily with the GOTCH TOEHOLD and then a rolling kneebar. The Iowa native made sure to hug Lewis after the bout. Wrestler | Points | John Pesek | 8 | Frank Gotch | 7 | Jim Londos | 7 | George Hackenschmidt | 5 | Red Berry | 4 | Youssuf Ishmaelo | 3 | Ed Lewis | 0 | Lou Thesz | 0 | William Muldoon | 0 | Maurice Tillet | -1 |

This is a cool looking tournament, Dustin. I will be following the action Thanks! This will eventually become a promotion. I'm fascinated by these ten grapplers, though Thesz was thrown in to fill out the roster. I've also never ran a round robin tournament. Ought to be fun.
