kayfabian.com/galactizone/history/GWF HistoryThe Galactic Wrestling Federation is the oldest and most prestigious wrestling promotion in the cosmos… Founded in 2074 following a merger between the then two biggest professional wrestling organisations in the industry, Terra Firma Wrestling (based on Earth), and Cetan Championship Wrestling (based on Cetus), it quickly established itself as the home of interstellar sports entertainment. Operating off of the Martian moon of Deimos its weekly holovision broadcasts made its superstars into household names, while its pay per view events showcased some of the greatest matches of all time. In these early years, competition was conducted according to the “Galactic Code”, a code of honour designed by one of the promotion’s founders and top stars, Omega of Cetus. The Code ensured sportsmanlike conduct and prevented degeneration into violent feuds and was enforced by Omega himself (though, in practice, the profound respect that Omega commanded in the industry meant that he rarely had to do much actual enforcing). For the better part of a decade the GWF enjoyed a golden age of free and fair competition… In 2084, this golden age came abruptly to an end. One of the GWF’s hottest new prospects, Cosmos, had grown weary with the restrictions of the Galactic Code, and what he saw as a “decrepit order of moralisers” holding down the real talent. Turning on his then tag team partner and the son of Omega, Star Warrior, he broke the Code in spectacular fashion with a vicious assault after one of their matches. Re-branding himself as Thantos, he declared the “dawning of a new day” in the GWF, where wrestlers would no-longer be bounded by “outdated morality”. Unsurprisingly, this evoked a powerful from response from Omega, who gave a speech condemning Thantos’ rebellion. The two men seemed fated to collide and it wasn’t long before Thantos challenged Omega to meet him in the squared circle. Though reluctant, the veteran Cetan at last relented and the stage was set for one of the most hotly anticipated matches in GWF history. The two men met at GWF’s biggest event of the year, Champions of the Galaxy XI (March 27th, 2085), beamed live on pay per view from the GWF Arena on Deimos – and to make matters even more exciting, Omega had agreed to put his Galactic Heavyweight Title on the line. But there was to be no match. No sooner had the opening bell rang, than Omega was brutally attacked by a gang of GWF wrestlers who had secretly sided with Thantos. The event collapsed into anarchy as the GWF wrestlers who remained loyal to Omega hit the ring and began brawling wildly with his attackers. The damage was already done, however, and Omega was rushed to hospital with a suspected broken back. The GWF was placed on indefinite hiatus, in which state it remained for almost two years…

It’s been two long years since the Galactic Wrestling Federation was placed on indefinite hiatus, following the events at its last pay per view event, Champions of the Galaxy XI. Those two years have seen the galactic wrestling industry change, almost beyond recognition. Gone are the halcyon days of pure competition and sportsmanship – the modern industry has something of the laissez-faire about it, with feuds and foul-play abounding. Many of us have longed for the return of those three initials that always spelled both top-quality entertainment and family values. Well – at least in the first respect – our prayers have at long last been answered. In an emotional press conference from his home on Cetus, GWF President and Galactic Heavyweight Champion, Omega has made his first public appearance in nearly eighteen months and announced… the RETURN of the Galactic Wrestling Federation! A transcript follows below: (SOURCE: GWF.com)Following this speech, Omega’s assistant, Oolon Kaloophid, announced the roster for the returning Galactic Wrestling Federation. The big surprise was the return of almost all the wrestlers who had participated in the savage attack on Omega at Champions of the Galaxy XI – including Thantos. The notable absences were both the GWF Tag Team Champions, Theatre of War (Comedy & Tragedy), and the GWF Interplanetary Champion, the Matador of M83, both of whom have opted to remain with the GWF’s leading competition, Horsehead Nebula Wrestling (HNW) – their title belts will now be vacated. Omega will remain Galactic Heavyweight Champion and, in another shock, Thantos will remain No. 1 Contender – meaning we could at last see the long anticipated Omega/Thantos match for the title which we were denied in 2085. The return episode of GWF Live! has been scheduled for Friday the 12th of March and will air from the GWF Arena on Deimos. The card for that event is expected to be announced in the next day or so. March is, of course, Champions of the Galaxy month, and this year will be no exception: COTG XII is currently scheduled for Sunday the 27th of March and will also air from Deimos – no matches have as yet been announced. These are exciting times, ladies and gentlemen. More news as soon as we have it…

The card for the return episode of GWF Live! has been announced this afternoon and it looks sure to be historic: GWF LIVE! (12/03/2087)
MAIN EVENT Omega & Massif vs. Thantos & Executioner
The Greek Gods vs. The Spacecroppers (GWF Tag Team Titles Tournament)
Wolf vs. Exo-King
Comrade Terror vs. Lord Nexus (GWF Interplanetary Title Tournament)
Commander Sam vs. Mutant (GWF Interplanetary Title Tournament) - The return Live! will see first round matches of both the Interplanetary and the Tag Team Titles Tournaments, after the former holders of both titles declined to return to the GWF to defend them. In the first of two interplanetary encounters, the ever-popular Earthling, Commander Sam, will take on the ever-nauseating, Mutant, in what is sure to be a crowd-pleasing opener. - In the second, Comrade Terror, who was instrumental in the attack on Omega at Champions of the Galaxy XII, will square off against a man who was instrumental in Omega's defence and the leader of the hugely popular Flying Titans, Lord Nexus. - In the tag team title tournament bout, two fan-favourite teams, The Greek Gods and the Space Croppers, look set to deliver a showcase of old fashioned GWF athleticism. - Before that, however, an epic contest between two of the most dangerous wrestlers in the GWF, as the man-beast, Wolf, squares off against the mechanical man-mountain, Exo-King. Look for this one to steal the show. - Our absolutely huge main event is sure to start the GWF's television ratings on a spike as Omega and Thantos at long last face each other across a GWF ring. Sadly, it's not yet a one on one contest, and as such the Galactic Heavyweight Title will not be on the line. It is, however, an absolute monster of a tag-team match, with the Galactic Heavyweight Champion, Omega, bringing his old friend, the giant Massif, to counter-balance the hulking brute, Executioner, who will be teaming with Thantos. The big questions on everyone's lips: how well will Omega have recovered from the broken back he suffered two years ago? And what will he do when he finally gets his hands on the man responsible?! Also expected are appearances from other top GWF superstars including: Star Warrior, The Gladiators, Invincible Krakan and others besides! And rumours are even circling that Thantos may at last discuss publicly his breaking of the Galactic Code and savage assault on Omega – be sure to read Blacklash's inaugural 'Rumour Mill' column when it arrives, for more on this. This could be one of the most exciting GWF television shows in history, ladies and gentlemen, and you will be kicking yourself if you miss it! OOC:Crimson Crossvipers2k9Thanks for the comments, guys, I appreciate it.
