First off, just wanted to say I cant get enough of this game. My poor Xbox 360 is getting dusty.
Anyway, had a question for Lawless, Turkish, and any other POW promoter. What do you think about adding an "Endurance rating for MMA fighters? Assuming you use a round/timing system you could easily implement this. Just seems like such a huge part of mma. Some guys could whoops butt for the first round then gas out in the later rounds. Just a rough idea but here is what I was thinking...
Endurance Ratings
-3 to +3 (to make it along the lines with the Off/Def Similar to defense in regards to -3 is the best, +3 is the worst
After each round check the fighters Endurance rating to see whether to add or subtract from their PIN/ SUB or any fatique tokens. +1, +2, +3 Fighter is in less than average condition. +1, +2, or +3 tokens to their PIN/SUB
0 Fighter is in good condition so round by round there is no change to his sub or pin
-1, -2, -3 Fighter is in very good conditon. -1, -2, or -3 tokens to their PIN/SUB.
Real rough idea but you get the point. Let me know your thoughts.

You have some excellent ideas, my friend, as always.
I like this idea, but the problem I see is that you have to have a round system in place.
And that is something I would like to implement. But I really do not want a system where the player has to do any computations or count moves or anything.
But yeah, rounds, cage charts (and I guess ring and ropes charts) a better top/ bottom system for grappling. Heck I'd even like to see a Yanna Pit charts for the elevated mat.
So I'll toss this into the back of my melon with my other POW thoughts.

Well, it'd would be different (I know you were kidding, though). One of the things I have heard as far as the MMA system is the lack of real choices Here that would be a change of pace.

Do you mean alternate match types?

NO, the match set up is very mechanicl in nature, meaning the options the player has during the actual fight is limited.
In GWF, you have the Choice Chart, in which you could choose from option 1 or 2, or you had the four other charts you had the option of using, or leaving the ring, or tagging to name a few.
Whereas the Yamma Pit mat is sorta gimmicky, it does not really boggle my sensibilities enough to take the martial arts out of the fight. It is basically uneven ground.

gotcha gotcha. I like it how it is but can see how others might want some options/variations. I'll see what I can come up with as far as options and choices.
on a side note I was thinking of making Vale Tudo rules (no ref stoppages, etc) and cage charts (Striking, Clinch, Grappling) with different outcomes due to fighting in an Octagon.

I'm glad you two could carry on this conversation so well in my absence. I think endurance is a very useful stat to have, but I agree that there needs to be a round system in place in order for it to work. Once everyone can agree on how that could take shape, then we have a lot more possibilities for "advanced" type rules.

Once everyone can agree on how that could take shape, then we have a lot more possibilities for "advanced" type rules. I can see how some players dont like to have to keep track of things. I think that is the beauty of the POW/MMA game engine. It has the feel of a real fight without over complicating things (ala stat tracking). Well, until a timing system (like my own or Ring Kings) is established I'll just keep cranking out my house rules. Speaking of which, how is the in-fight cut/wound modifications workign for you Turkish?

I modified the chart so the medium and major cuts had so direct impact on the fight. That being said, the cut chart is awesome. Thayne defended his title against Eclipse, the first card in the septagon cage, and a major injury played a part in Eclipse's downfall.
