Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

Trent Lawless here, and I'm your favorite wrestling personality, whether it is by the broadcast booth or the journalist's pen. We have had several major events go down since Magnus Colby sold his wrestling promotion to Faustus Grael, and Grael renamed the promotion POW. Let's go down to the highlights.

On the very first episode of POW Goldmine:

New POW owner Faustus Grael entered the ring with Jack Hood holding a vintage copy of the CPC Promoter from when Magnus Colby and Sonora Pelf graced the cover sticking cash into the coat jacket of then-GWF commissioner Grogan. Grael announces that a new time has come, and that the CPC is dead and gone, as is all of the CPC history.

Grael: POW fans, you shall be pleased to hear that everything starts afresh at this point. The record slates have been wiped out! Every competitor and athlete is now back to 0-0, and from now on any challenge matches shall be submitted to the office of Commissioner Jack Hood!

Hood: Starting tonight, we march on the path of creating a new POW legacy. I'm a wrestler by trade, but nary a spectator would deny that mixed martial arts is the wave of the future. While the GWF thrives in producing sports entertainment, FWA/OLW excels in garbage wrestling, and who knows what goes on in that battle zone of the aCe, here in POW everyone shall fight like men. Our children shall fight like men, our women shall fight like men?and our MEN will fight like men! (crowd approval). Every bout shall be fought to a knockout or submission?and we bear our injuries like a badge of honor. For blessed is he who falls in battle, fighting to the last breath, taking arms against a sea of troubles?and while opposing, end them.

Tonight shall mark a night in which the POW begins a new era. I have drawn three brackets of eight men apiece ?the ladies shall have their chance at a future date ?and in each weight class the men shall contend for their division's crown. I myself, though a wrestler by trade, will compete in the heavyweight division tonight against one Mike Fortune. Good day, ladies and gentleman! (crowd approval)

In the first round of the Inaugural POW Super Heavyweight tournament...

The referee stopped the match when Gunnar gave a hard body shot to Puma in a classic striker versus grappler duel. Unfortunately for Puma, his attempts to frequently lock up in a clinch and wrestle on the ground failed him, as Gunnar outboxed Puma to advance to the second round.

Silas forced Hadrian to tap out to the STF in a ten-minute bout that was almost called by the referee due to fan boredom. This was a sloppy bout which garnered the jeers of all of the fans in the ring, as neither man was particularly adept on his feet as a striker. However, Hadrian lumbered around just as much on the ground, which allowed Silas to clinch the victory (no pun intended).

In the first round of the Inaugural POW Cruiserweight tournament...

Brainstorm defeated Scion Nexus with an arm triangle choke in a bout that lasted nearly twenty minutes. Both men appeared to be more comfortable on the ground, but slow action often caused the referee to put the men back on their feet. Nexus withstood a series of flurries from Brainstorm, and it was only when he tried a rear choke that Brainstorm reversed it with an elevator and forced Nexus to tap.

Dante knocked out Thayne with a left uppercut. While Dante is by nature a striker, Thayne managed to neutralize many of Dante's blows by constantly engaging in a clinch. Dante was unable to find any submission holds that would work on Thayne, so as the referee kept forcing the men back on their feet, Dante finally landed a barrage of punches that shook up Thayne, but did not cause him to go down until the last uppercut.

In the first round of the Inaugural POW Heavyweight tournament...

Shylock knocked out Indigo in under one minute with a sternum punch. The vastly overmatched Indigo surprised folks when he knocked Shylock down on the ground with the very first two punches thrown in the bout, but a quick reversal on offense was all she wrote for Indigo, as Shylock has arguably the heaviest hands of anyone in POW today.

Mike Fortune defeated Jack Hood by TKO with grounded punches to the head and body in a quick dismantling of the POW Commissioner. Hood noticeably did not tap nor give up, and was extremely disappointed by the referee's decision.

In the first semi-final bouts of the POW tournaments...

Silas forced Gunnar to tap out to the figure four armlock in a bout that lasted just over five minutes. The game plan for this bout was very simple. Gunnar was by far the superior striker, and Silas was by far the superior ground fighter. Trent Lawless noted that thus far in POW's revived history, a good striker has usually beaten a good grappler (contrary to conventional wisdom), but Silas managed to duck Gunnar's blows and take the fight where he wanted it to go. Silas advances to the finals of the Super Heavyweight division.

Dante knocked out Brainstorm with a punch to the jaw in the opening minutes of the Cruiserweight semi-final. In the first matchup of known rivals, Brainstorm entered the ring knowing the tale of the tape, but Dante made sure that he would also leave the ring knowing who was the better man.

Trent Lawless interviewed Dante after the match to collect his thoughts...
Lawless: Dante, we have recently seen you change your attitude in regards to your opponents. You weren't always this cocky?Dante: You don't seem so tough right now, do you Mr. Brainstorm? I'm a better actor than you, better-looking than you, and now I just proved that I'm a better fighter than you! (crowd pop) You've been after me for a while, like that nerd looking for revenge against the jock, but hopefully now I've put you in your place and I can look forward to facing my good friend Euritar in the finals!
Lawless: Well THAT certainly didn't answer any of my questions as to why Dante has suddenly gotten so cocky?

Shylock knocked out Mike Fortune with a right jab, left hook, and right knee. Shylock outclassed Fortune in nearly every aspect of the bout, as Fortune escaped a submission move on the ground only to be knocked out on his feet. Shylock eagerly looks forward to the finalist in the other side of the heavyweight bracket, as the man heavily favored to win the Heavyweight title was carried out on the shoulders of Splatter and Rhiannon.

Hey there,

I'm Trent Lawless with a brief update on what has been happening in the POW promotion since new owner Faustus Grael declared his intentions of turning this promotion into a MMA-style league. Commissioner Jack Hood still prefers the classic wrestling matches, but will take on anyone in any kind of fight.. provided Grael allows him to participate.

In a series of first-round matches...

In the superheavyweight division...

Mensar forced J.J. Smooth to tap out to the knee bar in the opening minute of their bout.

The referee awarded Rubicon a victory by TKO over Hanuman when Rubicon gave Hanuman several knees to the head, seven minutes into their contest. Hanuman was by far the inferior striker, and tried to make up for this by locking in the clinch early and often, but Rubicon managed to reverse a neck crank in order to take the bout.

In the cruiserweight division...

Euritar defeated T.K. by a TKO in a slugfest of a match. Though T.K. was originally trying to avoid coming to blows with Euritar, a couple of slow clinches and the referee's insistence on breaking caused T.K. to lose his temper and try to fight back against Euritar. The two took turns trading shots to the head before T.K. dropped to the ground, and the referee called the fight before Euritar could follow up.

Stigma knocked Pendekar out with punches to the head in a very exciting ten minute match. The match featured solid action on the feet, clinch, and ground, as both men were fairly strong all-around fighters. Pendekar seemed to have the upper hand with his grounded submissions, but when the referee ordered both men on the feet right as he was putting on a submission hold, Stigma managed to capitalize and take Pendekar down in order to attain his victory.

Finally, in the heavyweight division...

Saboteur knocked out Jack of Diamonds with a Tai Otoshi.

Raze knocked out Cypher with a right kick, in what may be considered the first upset in POW's young history. While Raze was no slouch himself, Cypher was never able to get anything going on offense, as Raze successfully defended every one of Cypher's attacks.

This week's edition, we also feature a spotlight on our brand new commissioner, Mr. Jack Hood. Hood attempted to step into the ring early on in this tournament, but was swiftly eliminated from competition by Mike Fortune, when the referee stopped the match despite any noticeable activity signaling a tap out nor failure to defend himself. Mr. Hood was furious at the decision, and has signed a rematch between the two athletes at the next card, in which he hopes to put to rest once in for all that he is too "old" to compete in POW these days.

While we are on the topic of Jack Hood, the POW commissioner has also had a flair for the dramatics lately, as he as commissioned a re-enactment of the original birth of POW, complete with his murder of Ratlick in the middle of the ring. Hood will be hiring locals to play the part of brawling fans, as he defied authorities and declared a new era in combat sports. He will have the ring painted in the blood of dead rabbits, as a homage to the fact that Ratlick's blood was spilled all over the POW canvas (sanitation authorities refuse to allow him to use any other rodent), and all of the citizens of the Five Points are invited to attend.

In the remaining semi-final bouts of the Inaugural POW tournament:

Rubicon knocked out Mensar with a back hip throw in a match that saw solid action from both fighters. Both men were cut up pretty badly when this bout ended, and the two even shook hands upon the announcement of the victor. Rubicon will meet Silas in the finals of the POW Super Heavyweight division

Euritar knocked out Stigma early with an ax kick. While both fighters were fairly accomplished at their all-around game, Euritar's decision to let his opponent back to his feet proved wise with the knockout. As hoped for by Dante, Euritar now meets his friend in the finals of the POW Cruiserweight division.

Saboteur forced Raze to tap out to a knee bar in a bout in which Raze was simply overmatched. It is only the first tournament of the POW era, and already Saboteur is booked in an MMA mark's wet dream fantasy -- a Heavyweight title bout against his hated nemesis, Shylock!

Hi Everyone,

Trent Lawless here, and after settling the bracket finals for each of the three men's divisions, Pleiades Outlaw Wrestling (why as an MMA fed we still have the 'wrestling' part in our promotion's name I am not sure..) has decided to begin our women's tournament. Nothing too unusual here, as Franco Jesterelli and POW's Top Diva, Latasha, managed to whine their way into getting a first-round bye. We'll see if that bye does Latasha any good in the next round.

Meanwhile, we have some early friction going on between the POW president, Prodigy, and the POW Commissioner, Jack Hood. Two weeks ago, Jack Hood lost a bout against Mike Fortune, in which the referee called the match a TKO despite the fact that Jack Hood had not yet been knocked out or rendered unable to defend himself intelligently. It turns out that the order came from above to have the referee call the match before Hood was either knocked out our submitted, because President Prodigy doesn't want the Commissioner to be the promotion's own champion. Jack Hood filed a grievance straight to the top, as Faustus Grael agreed to allow Mr. Hood a chance to put himself in the finals of the POW Heavyweight tournament.. but we'll have more on that later.

In the first round of the POW Women's division...

Latasha was on hand for guest commentary in each of the three opening women's contests, as she believed she was the star of the women's roster and should receive the most airtime out of all of them. This was encouraged by Franco, and during the match between Rhiannon and Xenia, she even received a bouquet of roses from Matinee Idol, just to remind her of how important she was.

Morgana forced Desdemona to tap out to an oma plata. Although both women felt more comfortable on the ground, Desdemona knew that she was weaker defensively against submissions, so she tried to stay on her feet, while Morgana went to the ground at every chance. Desdemona, however, often reversed things on the ground so Morgana changed her strategy and tried to defeat Desdemona on her feet. Suddenly having a change of heart about engaging in a striking battle, Desdemona tried to take the fight back to the ground, so Morgana obliged and defeated her there.

Serpentine choked out Nano with a head and arm choke. I~{!/~}m not sure how a choke out works with Nano, but it did. Nano wanted to play, but Serpentine was all business here, as Nano was not focused enough to pose a serious threat in this match. Both competitors were weak on their feet, but Nano was even weaker on the ground, so Serpentine tried to keep the match one of grappling. Nano did manage to work back to the clinch and get a few strikes in, but Serpentine reversed fortunes and forced Nano to tap quickly.

Xenia knocked out Rhiannon with a knee, elbow combo. Rhiannon appeared noticeably upset by the condition of her beau, Shylock, to be focused in this match. However, Rhiannon refused to give up either, as Xenia got some blows in early, but Rhiannon kept fighting back. Rhiannon went on an offensive flurry at one point of the match and even had Xenia dazed on her feet, but then she got distracted and tried to go for a submission instead of the knockout, allowing Xenia to recover, get back on her feet, and finish the job.

In other MMA fights around town...

Ahnu forced Crucible to tap out to a reverse ankle lock. The tale of the tape showed Ahnu with a significant advantage over Crucible, but Crucible struck first blood with the first knockdown of the match. Ahnu regained his composure, but every time he started to control things on the ground, Crucible reversed things around. Crucible worked up Ahnu~{!/~}s fatigue with his strikes, but Ahnu kept getting up off the ground. Finally, a well-placed submission ended Ahnu~{!/~}s misfortunes against Crucible.

Scion Nexus knocked out Quetzal with one punch. Scion Nexus is now 1-1 with an impressive knockout victory under his belt.

Excalibur defeated Talon by TKO with knees to the body in a prolonged affair.

In the Championship Round for the three Men~{!/~}s division titles...

Silas upsets Rubicon to become the first POW Superheavyweight Champion. Silas intercepted a strike from Rubicon early and took the fight into the clinch, but Rubicon momentarily regained the offense from the ground and nearly knocked out Silas. Silas managed to withstand the assault, and after several submission maneuvers managed to force Rubicon to tap out to a figure four armlock.

Euritar knocks out Dante with a right, left combo in a friendly duel. Dante celebrated and recognized Euritar as the POW Cruiserweight Champion.

Jack Hood inserted himself into the finals of the POW Heavyweight Tournament on the basis that his record should still be viewed as (0-0) because he did not really lose to Mike Fortune in the first round. This makes him the only other undefeated fighter in the POW Heavyweight Bracket besides Shylock and Saboteur, and in the absence of Shylock, propels him into the finals. Transitive logic fails to impress, but he's the commissioner, and President Prodigy didn't overrule the decision, so we go into the final match..

Saboteur forced Jack Hood to tap out to a keylock. In the absence of the pre-tournament favorite, Shylock, Saboteur easily cruised to become the first POW Heavyweight Champion. This time, there was no excuse for Hood, who voluntarily tapped out when he was in trouble on the ground. However, this was not without posing a serious threat to Saboteur, as Hood nearly knocked out a clearly dazed Saboteur in the opening minutes.

Hello Everyone,

I'm Trent Lawless, and despite the absence of my Super Grover trumpet fanfare (the distribution of this newsletter to you early 21st century fans makes it difficult for me to include audiobites on paper medium), I am your knowledgeable expert on the Mixed Martial Arts Division of Pleiades Outlaw Wrestling. If you tuned into my latest Podcast, you should be well aware that I ranked all of the female competitors in POW, and despite her number one ranking in the women's MMA tournament, I ranked Latasha next to last in the division, only slightly above Nano. And considering that no one knows what gender the apparently androgynous Nano truly is/are, some have decided to create trouble for me by suggesting that I ranked Latasha as the DFL among the ladies (which in Chewey's parlance means "Dead F'n Last"). Matinee Idol threatened to pummel me before his match in the opening contest of the latest show, but more on that in the next paragraph.

Results from the Spica Pyramid...

Romulus knocked out Matinee Idol with strikes to the head. Matinee Idol tried to attack me at ringside prior to the contest for comments I made about the "friend" that everybody and his brother knows he has a crush on. He then tried to impress Latasha by going for the knockout, but tired himself out in the opening minutes. Idol was a big fan of the clinch, but couldn't work many moves out of it, and once Romulus got him down on the ground, the referee stopped the fight after Idol was unable to defend himself.

Mad Jester defeated Nero by TKO with a reverse ankle lock. The fans were solidly behind Nero in this one, because although Mad Jester was popular with the crowd, he was seen as little more than a comedy act. However, there was a little bit of controversy in this match, as the referee called it due to excessive bleeding by Nero.. which turned out to be ketchup! In a ruse that Mad Jester pulled when he squirted ketchup into the face of Nero, half the crowd applauded the innovation of the Jester, while the other half soundly booed him for lack of a fair fight.

The big news of the evening was the presence of POW legend K.O. Keller. Keller, despite his old age and relative frailty, can still pack a punch, as he demonstrated a brief exhibition to the roaring approval of the crowd. He picked Morgana to win the women’s tournament, and we shall see.

Morgana and Xenia to Meet in the Women’s Division Finals, Latasha Files Grievance

In the semi-final rounds of the women’s tournament...

Morgana forced Latasha to tap out to a kimura armlock. Morgana’s (-1) adjusted KO rating made it seem desirable to finish the fight on her feet, but Latasha never stood a chance in either game, as Latasha failed to show that she even remotely deserved her first round bye that she had campaigned so hard to get. This match was certainly not without controversy, as Latasha insisted that horrible officiating led to its outcome. In Latasha’s words, the referee missed several cheap shots that Morgana took on Latasha’s beautiful face before the eventual outcome. Latasha, Matinee Idol, and Jesterelli all filed a grievance to President Prodigy’s office.

Xenia knocked out Serpentine with mounted punches. The fight was fairly even until Xenia caught Serpentine off guard and knocked her off her feet with a massive punch. Xenia pounced on her opponent and began delivering punches until the referee called the match due to Serpentine’s inability to protect herself.


POW Goldmine allows other division stars to showcase their skills

Pendekar knocked out T.K. in an exhibition bout in the cruiserweight division. Just as T.K. was getting a second wind and working on Pendekar, Pendekar managed to block a roundhouse punch and knock T.K. to the ground.

Cypher defeated Indigo by TKO with a crossface when the referee stopped the match due to excessive bleeding. Cypher was struggling despite being the pre-bout favorite, but Indigo was unable to contain a bleeding from his right eye.

Mensar knocked out Gordo with elbows to the head and knees to the ribs in a complete squash of an MMA bout.

Jack Hood gains Measure of Revenge over Mike Fortune

Jack Hood knocked out Mike Fortune with punches and elbows to the head in a prolonged bout. In a match that witnessed an ungodly number of reversals from both competitors, both men fought valiantly and withstood their opponent’s strikes, but in the end, Jack Hood finally obtained the revenge that he sought in losing in a controversial debut bout against Fortune by TKO.

Xenia Becomes First Ever Women’s Champion

Xenia defeated Morgana by TKO with an armbar, when the referee declared Morgana unfit to compete. Morgana heavily disputed this decision, as

Ladies, Gentlemen, and lower life forms of all ages, welcome to another edition of POW! The magazine where you get your inside scoop on the galaxy of MMA.. or at least all of it that matters. This is not where you will hear the party line of POW, it is not the magazine you should read if you want to read the same old same old, but it is the only place you can turn to if you want the truth.

STIGMA DEFEATS DANTE TO BECOME THE NUMBER ONE CONTENDER TO EURITAR’S CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE

On the latest edition of POW Goldmine, Commissioner Jack Hood made a match to determine the number one contender to the POW cruiserweight title. Both men had suffered losses to the cruiserweight champion, Euritar, during the initial kickoff tournament, and were eager to earn a rematch. Due to the close nature of both bouts, President Prodigy ranked them as the top two contenders to the belt, despite his known preference for Brainstorm.

My informed sources tell me that this peculiar booking decision is related more to President Prodigy's desire to pad Brainstorm’s win-loss record for a later money-making fight than it is Brainstorm falling out of Prodigy's favor. However, that is a topic of discussion that we will revisit at a later date. And, for the record, it is a decision that I think lies entirely in the discretion of the front office, and is completely fair.

Anyway, in the main event of this particular Goldmine show, in a bloody, hard-fought bout, Stigma elbowed his way to rendering Dante unable to defend himself. Stigma celebrated handily with the crowd on hand, as he was awarded the number one contender spot against the current Cruiserweight champion, Euritar.

MENSAR DEFEATS GUNNAR, ISSUES CHALLENGE TO SILAS

After an early-round loss to Rubicon in the Super Heavyweight tournament, Mensar appeared to get his record back on the right track.

I don't know how Silas managed to weasel his way to the Super Heavyweight crown, especially when his partner and associate, Gordo, was an absolute mess of a fighter the last time we saw him in the ring.

PUMA DEFEATS HANUMAN, ALSO ISSUES CHALLENGE TO SILAS

Mensar is not alone in his challenge for the POW Superheavyweight division, as a dominant victory by Puma put a second challenger in the running for a Superheavyweight title match. Puma took the microphone and declared that he was more deserving of the title shot because he defeated a higher ranked opponent in less time. As if there were a beat the clock provision on this evening's card. Hello? Ladies and gentlemen, have we forgotten that Rubicon is still ranked number one behind Silas? It’s just a matter of time before we have our third challenger speak his mind about a title he feels should rightfully belong to him, as the surprisingly competitive Superheavyweight division heats up against who, in this journalist's mind, is the most undeserving champion in the entire galaxy.

ON A FUNK, CYPHER TURNS AROUND WITH A MUCH-NEEDED VICTORY OVER ROMULUS

Cypher had been on a bit of a funk as he did not go as far into the Heavyweight tournament as he would have liked. But this was the match that he needed to re-establish himself, as Cypher handily defeated Romulus by technical knockout when Romulus began spitting blood after some hard heel kicks to the kidneys.

Cypher has been frustrated that he had been somewhat lost in the shuffle as the headlines all pointed to a Shylock-Saboteur feud. Happy that his rival, Shylock, is currently out of action, he vows to go for Saboteur's heavyweight crown in POW's premier MMA division.

BRAINSTORM AVERTS UPSET, PADS WIN-LOSS RECORD

Despite President Prodigy's alleged plan to help Brainstorm pad his win-loss record for a big payoff title match, Brainstorm nearly blew it with an embarrassing upset loss to Quetzal. The luchador unfit for the MMA win nearly pulled off the submission victory over a submission-weak Brainstorm, but couldn't get the job done. Well, anyway, Brainstorm being the man that he is, pointed out that Quetzal never had a shot anyway.

SHYLOCK ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY

After suffering an untimely injury that prevented Shylock from competing in the finals of the inaugural Heavyweight tournament, the pre-tournament favorite to win the championship has announced that he will be fit to return to the MMA ring in just a couple of weeks. This is not great news to his rivals such as Saboteur and Cypher, or anyone else in the heavyweight division for that matter. Shylock has publicly issued the statement that due to the heinous attempts by Saboteur to use Rhiannon to cause physical harm to Saboteur that he would immediately be seeking to dethrone Saboteur of his heavyweight crown.


Also on the show...

In a major upset, Talon forced Thayne to tap out to a rear choke hold for his first victory in POW, after avoiding the entire bout fighting on his feet... Absalom knocked out Taurine with two spinning backfists... Desdomona forced Nano to “tap out” to a reverse shoulder lock when an entrapped Nano would only respond “WE WANT TO PLAY!” to the referee instead of anything else coherent, which the referee interpreted as a sign of submission... Ahnu forced Excalibur to tap out to a knee bar in a defensive match from both sides... Raze knocked out Mad Jester with a right jab and left kick in a fairly lopsided match...
