Hmm Tampa and the Packers took two of my four targets. Damn you, Bays.

Rakestraw. A bit of a surprise to me but seems he is rated really good and fell to us. It might be harder for teams to pass on us this season. Guess they will have to run...oh that's right, teams had troubles running on us last season.

The Lions took OL Manu and RB Vaki in the 4th round. They had to trade up to get both of them. In general, I do not mind the Manu pick as he is big and pretty fast for his size. He will be a project it seems with his technique. Not sure why we drafted an RB. My main issue is trading up to get both. It would seem that both would be there later including Manu in the 5th. I trust in Holmes but do question the moves.

Detroit showed up this weekend. We set both single day and three-day records for draft attendance. Shattered the Nashville record. Heck, our two-day attendance almost beat Nashville's three-day. (550,000 to their 600,000). Way to go D.

I'm at work and I have the draft on the lobby TV and following online. I saw the Lions traded up once again. I went over to the TV to see who they took and was rewarded with DT Wingo. YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! He is a guy going into today I wanted but figured he would be long gone before we drafted in the 5th. We traded into the 4th twice and did not take him. He fell into the 5th, and we traded up to get him. Sweet.

Lions take OG Mahogany which seems a good get. According to ESPN rankings he slid down to us.
Also, it seems Vaki is a safety. He also played RB in college but was originally and really a S. So, he has versatility. I forgot where I first saw we drafted him, but he was listed as an RB. He is a nice pick up, even if a bit early and had to trade to get him, as he can be a backup on offense and defense. Knowing Ben Johnson, Ben will use him now and then to take advantage of mismatches and to distract from the real play.

As of now we have no picks in the 7th round which is underway. So, baring another trade we are done for the day. Overall, I give us a B+. Considering the limited high draft picks and we made trades to get back in, which means we have less picks over next year or two, that is high as I can give them. Not quite an A. But they did really good with what they had and were able to pick up guys that fell who have value. Some late picks will need time to develop but seeing we were one half from going to the SB we can do that these days. Holmes continues to do a stellar job for us. I am going to try and enjoy the summer, but one eye will be on the fall. The Roar has been restored. #OnePride

It is only late April, and our roster could change some before the season starts but I am feeling really good about our chances. Based on schedule I see us winning 10-11 games. Our D will be better this season. The secondary has been upgraded and only weakness is experience. They might start slow but will be rolling near end of the season. They will not only stop the big passing plays, but they will help the D-line put more pressure on the QBs as the QBs will not be able to throw as quickly as they will have to wait for guys to get open. The D-line looks improved and if healthy will be better. I see us possibly finishing in the 10th-12th range as far as team sacks. We will be as hard to run against if not harder this year than we were last year. Our offense should be as good as the last two years. Our O-line, if healthy, will be as good but likely better than last year. They also have a pair of guys they can develop who will give depth and possible future starters. Our running game will be just as good as both men are in or reaching their prime. Gibbs should be even better as he knows the offense better. Our passing game is one place we MIGHT take a step back with the loss of Josh Reynolds. How our receiving game goes will depend on if Jameson Williams finally turns into the WR we saw when we drafted him and/or if we add any guys to the WR room. This is Williams third year, and he should be free of distractions like injuries and gambling troubles. If he can be that speed threat, we envisioned our passing game will be as good or better. One thing I am looking forward to is I think the Lions will use Giovanni Manu as an extra O-line man a few times this season and maybe even as a FB on goal line situations. A man that big that moves as fast as he does can be a weapon if used right.

While I hope a bunch of the Lions draft picks work out I'll be especially pulling for Giovanni Manu since he's from British Columbia. Apparently he's the first player ever from the University of B.C. to be drafted by the NFL.

Yes, he is. He might be the steal of the draft not just for the Lions but for any team. He landed at a good place too. We have an established line so no rush to get him starting on day one. We have an offensive line coach who is regarded as one of the best. They will find ways to use Manu during the season as they prepare him for playing on the O-line regularly if he has the ability. He has the size and speed.
