I got this email from a good friend of mine.
The estate and contents of Walter “Killer” Kowalski’s house went up for auction today (still going on). Items sold included a wrestling robe for $4250 that had the name “Wladek Kowalski” on the back, indicating to me that it was before he became “Killer” and therefore more rare. A purple robe went for $450. His flight log went for $25. A pair of wrestling boots went for $650. Most of the higher-end wrestling items were sold to the same online bidder (not me). A non-working Rolex watch went for $1200. Another robe sold for $850 to the same buyer who bought the first one, meaning he paid over $5K for two robes, not to mention hundreds if not thousands spent on smaller items when totaled. No clue if he's a private bidder or someone representing a Hall of Fame or what... hell, I just realized his user name has the name Paul in it, so maybe it's Triple freakin H himself???
I'm bidding on several different lots of photos, but already lost one to the same guy who's buying up all the wrestling stuff. For $45, I got a ton of photos from his students, including letters from them (possibly them applying to the school or thanking him, not sure yet), and some letters by him. I won't know for sure exactly how many or from whom until I get the stuff in the mail (after probably getting raked for shipping). The photo with the auction just showed some of them, with others piled underneath.
Some of his other cool stuff that is being sold is his own camera & video equipment (out of my price range), his passports (I was going to bid, but they opened at $125), and a bust of Shakespeare that looked damn near exactly like the one out of the old Adam West & Burt Ward Batman series. You know, the one they would pull open to reveal the secret switch to the Batcave. That went for $65. Out of curiosity, I looked on ebay for a similar bust to see what they were worth, and found that there's somebody selling a replica of the one from the show, that actually opens up and has an electric switch and a cord you can attach to small appliances to turn them off and on! Unfortunately, they want $350 for it.
