Sad but true and perhaps a lesson to many wrestlers.

Nice find vx. I'll always be an admirer of Ric Flair, the performer. He was among the greatest all around talents in the history of the industry. The life story of Richard Fliehr, warts and all, would make for an amazing movie!

I just read that a few minutes ago on another site and was about to post it here. Yes, so very sad. I knew of some of these things discussed in the article but to read all of that at once kinda makes me regret ever being a huge fan of his. He'll probably die broke and alone in a cheap hotel somewhere. Again, so sad.

This is a story that has plagued many wrestlers from his era, a lot of them lived way outside of their means, Hogan is another one.
The two biggest Icon's of the 80's are struggling to make ends meet. If both were smart with their money back in the day they wouldn't be killing themselves right now for TNA.

My old next door neighbor (next to my parents) lived life the same way. Lots of loans, lots of judgements, lots of collections, lots of scheming, lots of get rich quick ideas...eventually he foreclosed on his house too. He had a private loan on it from a business partner at a high return rate. The partner died, and his wife said hand it all over or get out. The new neighbor has an awesome bulldog.
Tons of people live life like this. I talk about it all the time with credit/mortgage discussions. Flair just happened to be one of the best pro wrestlers ever. But he was always going to end up like this. Nothing to be sad about. He knew exactly what he was doing the whole time. He had his fun. Had a good run. Now that he's old and washed up people aren't so happy to lend a hand to "The Nature Boy". He probably doesn't even give a shit. The only thing Flair cares about is his false pro wrestling image. He obviously never cared for a second about his real image. Hard to be sad for a master manipulator who got everything he ever wanted.

This statement was released by Ric Flair’s Agent, Melinda Morris Zanoni, of Legacy Talent and Entertainment, LLC:
“Mr. Fliehr has declined to comment on the “Grantland” story published this week, as he has consistently with media inquiries regarding legal affairs. While the information gleaned from courthouse records may be credible, Mr. Fliehr is currently evaluating his legal options with respect to falsehoods in the story, specifically the untrue statement that he suffers from alcoholic cardiomyopathy. Our client understands that these allegations are part of the territory when you are not only famous, but a living legend. Ric Flair is a sports entertainer, which has been a lifelong passion that he still enjoys delivering to his fans today, along with his work outside of the ring with various charitable causes. We will be sure to advise Mr. Fliehr against running for County Treasurer and instead to continue entertaining his millions of fans all over the world as he has been doing for the past 35 years."
Does that really do him any favors? It seems like it may have been better to just let the thing go away instead of issuing a statement like this. ALSO, big problem here, I have a copy of Ric Flair's book "To Be The Man" on my shelf and he admitted having Alcoholic Cardiomyopathy in said book!
SO, his PR person just royally screwed him by making a bigger deal of this thing than it had to be and threatening legal action against something Flair admitted in his own book!

i have to say i've had sympathy for Flair, but after reading that it's hard to. I can't see why McMahon would ever bring him or hogan back, especially when he's got Austin, Rock, HBK, Hart all living clean outside the ring these days.

Flair and Hogan have made such a mockery of themselves that McMahon, HHH or whomever would have a hard time being able to bring either of them back.
The saddest part of this imo is the inability to learn from past mistakes. Or maybe, better yet, the inability to seperate Ric Flair from Richard Fliehr. Just to consult with the WWE, he was making almost $34,000 a month. A smart man, claims bankruptcy and tries to restart his life. Instead, the constant need to be Ric Flair consumed him.
As Paint said, I will always love Ric Flair, the 16 time World Champion. But I will always find it hard to love Richard Fliehr.
