PROVING GROUNDS 3. Episode 5. Proving Grounds Gym.Welcome to another episode of Proving Grounds! We’re Mot & Kram along with J.J. Smooth at ringside at the Proving Grounds Gym! Tonight we have another interesting challenge brought to us by the ever so charismatic & confident superstars of the Z, Varsity! Tonight, Varsity brings his
“Amateur Wrestling Challenge”! For Amateur wrestling rules you can go to this site:
www.wvmat.com/overview.htm or YouTube has NCAA wrestling that you can watch to get familiar with the sport fairly easily.
Here are the game rules for the Amateur wrestling challenge:
*No Advance rules, nothing in ( ) is used.
*FINISHERS are to become PINNING COMBO. Treated like a (0) finisher rating. Opponent rolls PIN accordingly.
*No ring, ropes, turnbuckle or deathjump charts used.
*There are 3 periods, first period is 3 minutes, second & third is both 2 minutes.
*Both wrestlers start on their feet (neutral position). Roll 2d6 like usual to see who starts the match. at the first move of wrestler, start
the timer.
*Scoring, rolls until someone rolls “down”, that is considered a “takedown” and worth 2 pts.
If a wrestler who is on the bottom (taken down), gets a turnaround on defense (NAME - 1 or NAME - 2), they score points, level 1
turnaround 1 point (escape to neutral position), level 2 turnaround 2 points (reversal to being on top instead of bottom). If a wrestler
on bottom rolls PIN, roll in normal manner, but rolls 10 or below are Near Falls worth 3 points, rolls of 11 or 12 are Near Falls worth 2
points.
*If a ring chart is rolled, replace with either the MMA Clinch chart or MMA Grapple chart. If both wrestlers are in the neutral position
(both standing), then use the Clinch chart. If a wrestler is down, then use the Grapple chart. Usually that means into the ropes and
into the turnbuckle = Clinch Chart, deathjump and out of the ring = Grapple Chart.
*After the first period both wrestlers roll 2d6 again to decide who gets to choose “up or down” for the referee’s position. The wrestler
who wins the right will go first. If he chooses to be on top, he goes on Level 2 Offense. If he chooses to be on the bottom, he rolls on
Level 2 Defense.
*Continue on through all three periods. If no pinfall, the winner will be decided by how many points they score. In the event of a tie,
their will be a Sudden Death Overtime.
*Sudden Death consists of winning one of four ways. The first one to score a takedown, reversal, nearfall or pinfall wins. No escape
points will win the match. Roll 2d6 again to see who gets to choose up or down for the referee’s position. Continue play until points
are scored.
*Optional rules. Riding time points can be scored if a wrestler on top has had control for a period of time, he is awarded 1 point for
every 10 moves in a row! This however has no bearing on winning in Sudden Death OT.
Ok, so now that’s out of the way, Varsity will be the referee for this event! Let’s head to the ring for the Challenge!
First up is
The Nameless One vs. Harley Marlboro. In the first period, Marlboro got the takedown for 2 pts and Nameless was able to score an escape for 1 pt. The Nameless One won the choice for second period. He chooses down. Marlboro rode him tough for the period and gets 1 point for riding time, Nameless failed to score any points. Marlboro gets the final choice for third period. He chooses down. Marlboro rockets out of the bottom position right away to earn a escape 1 point! Marlboro then catches Nameless with a quick takedown worth 2 points and Nameless goes right to his back! 2 points for a nearfall. Nameless then works hard to gain an escape at the last few seconds of the period to earn 1 point. The match is over and we go to Varsity’s decision. Harley Marlboro wins the match by a score of 8-2! Marlboro sure showed us a wrestling clinic! He really made The Nameless One look the fool.
Up next
Astaroth takes on Ulencio.Ulencio was quick off the whistle and gets a takedown immediately! Ulencio worked fast, getting multiple near falls in the period working up a grand total of 13 points! Astraroth survived not getting pinned and did manage to get a reversal worth 2 points and a near fall of his own worth 2 points! The buzzer sounded, saving Ulencio from getting pinned. “Saved by the bell” as they call it! Second period choice goes to Ulencio who elects to be down in the referee’s position. Ulencio manages to get an escape and both men are in the neutral position for the remainder of the period. Astraroth couldn’t get any points this time. Astraroth gets choice for the third period and elects to be down also. Astraroth gets a reversal in the match and then puts Ulencio on his back, getting two near falls worth 3 points each! Ulencio avoids getting pinned and then works in a reversal for 2 points. Ulencio then puts Astraroth on his back and gets a PINFALL! 6:12 time.
Ulencio wins the challenge this week being he was the only one to gain a pinfall in the challenge. That leaves Nameless, Marlboro and Astraroth in the bottom three. We’ll find out who gets eliminated at the end of the show! But let’s get back to the ring for more Proving Grounds action!

So our judges have made a decision on who will get eliminated this episode. Out comes Harley Marlboro, The Nameless One & Astraroth.
“Harley Marlboro, you won your match and showed impressive amateur wrestling skills, but you failed to get a pinfall, which is what we were looking for!
The Nameless One, you lost your match, and here at Proving Grounds, losing is not your favor! Serious danger of elimination.
Astraroth, you also lost your match, you’re in the same boat with Nameless.
So who is it this week that will be eliminated? We the judges decided that it will have to be......Astaroth! We based our decision on that you got pinned in your match, which is a fate worse than death here. We’re sorry to see you go, you’ve been a great competitor in this competition. We wish you the all the best, and thank you.”
Astraroth leaves with a look of frustration and disbelief that he is gone. “It should have been what’s his name!!” said Astraroth.
