Today I helped save the life of a bird and hopefully also helped catch a shoplifter.
The bird was saved on campus today at work. We had library orientation today and I sent my class on ahead of me to the library. As I was almost to the library I saw several of my students had stopped and one of them had a small bird in his hand.
The bird was unable to fly and looked messed up. We could not leave it on the ground because it probably would have been trampled upon at the next passing period. Some of my students wanted to place the bird in a garden area and leave it there, but I was worried about predators so I instead sent the students on to the library and left my class there for the orientation with the librarian who told me the head of the science department was also a veterinarian. So me and the student with the bird in his hand took the bird to that teacher who examined it. The bird didn't have any broken legs but might have flown into the library's windows as he was apparently in shock according to the teacher/veterinarian who placed the bird in a cage and said he would monitor and treat him. Tomorrow at work I am going to ask about the bird.
And then tonight after I got home from work, I found out about the LOW and LOTF pdfs being available tonight with the All Night Express being announced. I was so excited I went to the store down the street to buy a couple of beers for RAW which with my new HD TV I get to see live along with the East Coast. When I was at the counter paying for my alcohol, there was a lady by the door with alot of items in her hands and then the clerk suddenly shouted "Stop!" as the lady ran out the door.
The clerk could not get to the door very fast because she was stuck behind a long counter, but I ran out the door and saw two cars waiting for that lady right outside the door leaving the scene and I got the license plate and other info for one of the cars before they were out of sight. Hopefully they catch those thieves.
What a day, hopefully saving a life and fighting crime.
