back home now after seeing PWG last night
What another awesome show by a truly awesome fed- this year I was lucky to attend every PWG show of 2011!
Due to heavy traffic on the 101, I got to the Legion Hall after they already admitted the other front row ticket holders. But a fan at the front of the line being admitted for general admission was really cool and offered to let me go in front of him so I didn't have to wait at the back of the line. How cool was that?
I sat in the middle of the front row on the side of the ring where the wrestlers emerge from the back to enter the ring. That's a great spot for being seen on the DVDs of PWG shows, but it can also be a really hazardous spot too as alot of the out of the ring action takes place there and there is no guard rail to separate you from the action. Thankfully however I was alert and avoided getting knocked down (although I did feel TJP's boot brush past the back of my leather jacket when Brian Cage threw him into some chairs behind me.)
Match results:
The Taylor Boys defeated Kenny King & TJ Perkins
The show started off with (as originally scheduled) TJP vs Kenny King. But after a couple of minutes the Fightin' Taylor Boys emerged and announced since their scheduled opponents Los Luhas couldn't make it they wanted to challenge TJP and King instead in a tag team match. In what I consider somewhat of an upset, the Taylors won.
Roderick Strong defeated Amazing Red
Instead of playing Strong's entrance music, the sound guys at first accidentally played the entrance music for Chris Hero which obviously confused everybody in the Legion Hall. The sound guys had a bad night as they played the wrong songs at the wrong times at other times too
This was the first time I ever got to see the Amazing Red wrestle live. A great match and afterward the Amazing Red got on the microphone and said he was a little rusty wrestling tonight because he has recently been in TNA and (as the fans chanted "please come back") said he would be coming back to PWG again.
Team Sleaze (The Dynasty) def Team Candice
This was an 8 person tag match of The Dynasty (Joey Ryan, Scorpio Sky, Pretty Peter Avalon, and Ray Rosas) vs Candice Lerae's team
At first, Candice Lerae came to the ring with only Famous B and Chris Kadillak and without Willie Mack. Candice Lerae then got on the microphone and said she asked her ex husband Scott Lost to come out of retirement tonight to help her in this match and he said no which is why they are still divorced. Instead, to fill out her team, Candice Lerae then introduced a returning B Boy who was making his first PWG appearance in years.
For this match, The Dynasty came out all wearing Joey Ryan gear and played the sleaze factor to the absolute limit. As expected with a match involving Joey Ryan and Candice Lerae, this match involved alot of comedy and alot of raunch which is cool because I like a mixture of comedy and non comedy with my wrestling.
Willie Mack defeated Chris Hero
Although I got suspicious when the sound guy accidentally played Hero's music prior to the Roderick Strong/Amazing Red match, I still "marked out" big time when Chris Hero made an unannounced appearance through that curtain tonight. It was great to see Hero once again and I really liked this match alot- if you have never seen Willie Mack wrestle than you are missing out because Willie Mack is amazing!
Afterward, Chris Hero got on the microphone and started to say how he considers Dayton, Ohio his home when some rude fan on another side of the ring from me interrupted the longest reigning PWG World Champion ever by shouting "Willie." The fans started chanting "Shut the f**k up" at that idiot fan when Hero told the fans not to chant that because "that fan doesn't deserve a chant. That fan doesn't deserve s**t."
Hero then went on to say that while he considers Dayton, Ohio his home and he doesn't know if he will be back at PWG or not (I am guessing his potential WWE deal is still up in the air?) that he considers PWG his wrestling home which got a loud reaction from the crowd. Chris Hero is awesome!
RockNES defeated Future Shock
If you like tag team wrestling, you need to see this match. I am so glad Future Shock is now in PWG.
American Wolves defeated Super Smash Bros
Another great tag match at PWG! I wore my American Wolves shirt to this show as they and the Young Bucks are my personal two favorite tag teams. After the match, Eddie Edwards refused to shake Davey Richards hand and Richards told Eddie he would see him in New York at Final Battle.
PWG World Champion El Generico defeated Dick Togo in a non-title match
This was billed as Dick Togo's final North American match in his current retirement tour.
Another awesome match, but that is not surprising at all since this is PWG. At one point I managed to avoid a flying Dick as El Generico threw Dick Togo out of the ring right in front of me, but I got out of the way in time. The match ended when El Generico pinned Dick Togo after giving him the BRAINBUSTAAAHHH!!! from top rope turnbuckle right in front of me.
Kevin Steen and Super Dragon defeated PWG World Tag Team Champions the Young Bucks in a guerrilla warfare match to become the new PWG World Tag Team Champions
- What a match! Not a single fan was sitting for one second in the Legion Hall. My section of the Legion hall was immediately destroyed and I found myself stuck between the action as I had Steen battling one Buck on one side of me and Super Dragon battling the other Buck on the other side of me and I didn't know how to escape. I got bumped by some other fans running away from the melee but managed to stay on my feet. I then saw one of the referees (they sent out all 3 refs for this match) gesture toward me to get behind him which I was glad to do so I could get out of the no man's land I was briefly trapped in (there were points where the action involving chairs and garbage cans was closer to me than my computer monitor is right now as I type up this recap.)
Steen and Super Dragon won to become the new PWG World Tag Team Champions and Steen indicated they are getting much needed new PWG World Tag Team Championship belts (the current ones are in disarray) as a result.
After the show, I got to talk to Excalibur for a couple of minutes which for me was great since I am a big Excalibur fan. I also got to talk to Kevin Steen and get my Kevin Steen LOTF card signed. I also made a couple of cool signings too.
Looking forward to the next PWG show taking place the Sunday afternoon of Wrestle Reunion 6! Now I am going to get some sleep for a few hours before I go to a FSW show here in Las Vegas on which Roderick Strong, Kenny King, and TJ Perkins are wrestling.
