The most recent numbers show that health care spending in America has reached an all time high this year, accounting for 18.2 percent of GDP. The fastest growing component, is brand name prescription drugs. The pharmaceutical lobby in the U.S. is a very powerful force, and their bi-partisan efforts reap huge profits relative to what health consumers the world over pay out of pocket for brand name drugs. Yet if a future goal of public policy is to contain health care cost inflation, this is an area that may have to be addressed. Below is an infographic courtesy of Medical Billing and Coding.net, an industry group with an interest in streamlining the cost process.
