Great poll as always Jim. A fun thought experiment for fans. I'll make my picks off of a combo of who were the most effective money draws in their managerial roles, overall impact on the industry...and of course pure personal bias! ' Captain Lou Albano vs Teddy Long
Whether the program was for a world title shot at Bruno/Morales/Backlund, the IC belt or tag straps, the Captain was among the best foils in WWWF history.
Mr Fuji vs Sir Oliver Humperdink
Oliver was effective in the Southern territories but never translated on the big stage. Fuji by name recognition!
Harley Race vs Wild Red Berry
Berry was one of the premiere managers during the DuMont Network era, a case can be made that he helped to pioneer the role. Race was a wrestling legend, but a horrible mouthpiece.
Paul Bearer/Percy Pringle III vs Sheik Adnan Al-Kaise
White Wolf goes down to Mr. Bearer in a landslide!
Gary Hart vs Johnny Valiant
As a kid, I felt Johnny V had go away heat. Horrible promo and persona. Gary was gangster both in front of the camera and behind it. He gets my vote.
The Grand Wizard vs Paul E Dangerously
Teacher vs student. Ernie Roth vs Paul Heyman. TGW was one of the famed Three Wise Men of the East. Heyman learned his craft from Wizard, Blassie & Albano, updated those proven concepts so that they would work for his era, and ultimately took it to another level by building his own promotion. Gun to the head...Paul E slightly gets the delta!
Miss Elizabeth vs Woman
Two beauties who passed away far too soon. Woman had more charisma...but Elizabeth benefited from the machine and wins on legacy!
Jimmy Hart vs Baby Doll
Mismatch. Mouth of the South gets the duke.
Bobby Heenan vs Kevin Sullivan
Sullivan was no slouch, but few can match Bobby's prime money runs in the AWA and WWF. The Brain will be tough to beat!
Skandar Akbar vs Paul Jones
This one is tight, slight edge to Akbar.
Paul Ellering vs Bill Alphonso
Ellering wins off being in the right place at the right time.
Jim Cornette vs Slick
Cornette is among the most overrated figures in the industry, but takes down the Slickster!
JJ Dillon vs Missy Hyatt
Dillon is the opposite of Cornette, behind the scenes he could execute far beyond the square peg/round hole parroting of old Bill Watts booking formulas, yet he didn't have the same charisma or drawing power as JC when in front of the cameras. That said, he could still edge out Missy!
Sherri Martel vs Ted DiBiase
Sherri was an amazing talent. Not a great promo, but a colorful character, an attractive presence and a master bump taker who helped sell countless programs. DiBiase's forte was as a wrestler. Sherri takes it!
Freddie Blassie vs Vickie Guerrero
Another tough one. I could see younger fans going with Vicki (she is a legit talent given the parameters of the era). Yet on legacy, I'd side with Blassie.
Sunny vs Arnold Skaaland
Skaaland was a silent man prop for face WWWF champions. He was never essential to selling storylines. Sunny helped define the role of 'diva' and takes it on impact.
