Birth Of Independence 4th July 2008
1. Arik Cannon Vs "Bloody" Harker Dirge The first match of the show was quick and effortless for "The Anarchist". Cannon just outmatched Harker Dirge and it wasn't long until he hit the GLIMMERING WARLOCK for the win.
2. Savage-T Vs "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce Many were expecting this to be one-sided. Savage-T looked to be no match for Adam Pearce. However, fans were excited to see Savage-T bring the fight to Pearce. The match went back and forth with Savage-T gradually getting more support from the crowd. Pearce wound up playing a little dirty, using some sneaky tricks behind the ref's back. Things almost ended horribly for "Scrap Iron" when Savage-T attempted the VERTEBREAKER. Pearce was too heavy for the move to happen. Instead it was Pearce who won with the JUMPING PILEDRIVER.
3. The Heartbreak Express Vs The Samoan Tribe "Superstar Sean" & "Fabulous" Phil weren't too happy to hear the boos from the fans as they made their way to the ring. The boos led to Sean grabbing the mic and screaming "YOU'RE...JUST...JEALOUS!!!" in a screeching voice. Sean & Phil had the early advantage until the Samoans turned the tide with their trademark Headbutts. It wasn't all smooth sailing though. It took both Samoans to lift up Sean for a Double Samoan Drop. Phil came to his teammate's aid and got rid of Samu. Sean was able to beat Alofa with a Short-Arm Clothesline afterwards.
4. J.D. Michaels Vs "Belgian Brawler" Dupae Rupa Michaels was looking to impress the fans in this match and he did not dissapoint. Dupae was not able to get near a victory but was able to give Michaels a Belgian Body Slam. The mistake of climbing the turnbuckles cost him the match as Michaels recovered and hit a Superplex for the win.
5. Delirious Vs Ricky Landell This match was a weird one. Or a normal one in Delirious' case. He knelt up against the turnbuckles and kept perfectly still. Landell was confused by this and slowly approached Delirious. He even tapped him on the head a few times but he stayed still. Once the bell rang, Delirious leapt up and screamed as he ran in, out and around the ring. When Delirious finally calmed down he started to stare at a fly that was buzzing near him. He suddenly grabbed the fly and ate it! Landell was so intimidated by Delirious' behavior that he couldn't concentrate on the match. When Delirious got his head into the match he defeated Landell with a Shadows Over Hell.
6. The Naptown Dragons Vs The James Gang The James Gang used their usual pre-match activities to rally the crowd behind them. Their opponents were not intimidated. In fact they also had a strong following. Their fans were even very vocal towards the James Gang. The split following of the crowd added to the atmosphere as the two teams served a very aggressive match. There would be no winner as all four men wound up brawling in the crowd, leading to a double countout. A feud between these teams will be a highlight for sure in IW's future shows.
7. "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush Vs Steve Corino Corino was all talk. He went as far as to give the announcer a reworked introduction that was pretty much a long list of Corino's nicknames. He found it difficult to live up to those nicknames as Quack brought his A-game. Corino bought some time with a Low Blow but Quack recovered and unleashed some stinging Windmill Chops. A Running Palm Strike knocked Corino silly. It was just a matter of time until Quack would end the match. He gave Corino the QUACKENDRIVER II and pinned him. Before the ref could count to three, Adam Pearce and Ricky Landell suddenly ran into the ring and attacked Quackenbush! The match ended in DQ but that would not save Quack from a three-on-one assault. With Quack down and out, Corino stood between Pearce and Landell and lifted their arms high. What power could the trio gain in Independent World?
8. Claudio Castagnoli Vs Chris Hero It was time for the main event. Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero have a lot of history between them. Former tag team partners who together were the toast of the indies until they split and battled each other across the United States. Now their rivalry would continue in Washington DC for Independent World. The two gave a quick but action-packed contest. Claudio was the better man tonight as he used a Scissor Kick to Hero's face to win the match. Claudio ended the show by getting the audience to shout "Hey!" while he celebrated.
