I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who helped to make 2009 a very productive year for the growth and development of this message board. A great deal was accomplished and many of the investments that have been made in the online infrastructure will pay lasting dividends well into the future. This wouldn't have been possible without the contributions of a great many people.
Some notable highlights:
* The PDF Download Library: This resource hosts direct downloads to print ready files that range from specialty matches to player created sets, charts and game templates. Since inception the system has now supported over 1000 downloads for players around the world. The depth of the material available in the archive could only be achieved through the many open source contributions that have been made throughout the years. While I always make a concerted effort to see to it that each and every contribution is given a full and proper attribution...if there is ever a mistake or a need for a modification please don't hesitate to send me a PM. Your work is appreciated and it has a lasting value that should never go unrecognized.
* Unofficial Wrestler Super Archive: In support of the LOW Brand, this year has seen the archiving of over 40 player created sets with a listing of over 1000 wrestler cards in PDF and/or LOW Online Create A Character form. New customers come across this board everyday and there will always be a dynamic segment of our visitors who will never sign up for an account much less frequent a Yahoo Group or like equivalent. To the extent ready exposure to any form of game related material can spark continued interest in the underlying FG system it is a win for both the community and the company. A special thanks to those whose contributions have made the development of this resource possible: Canadian Pit Bull, Cynthia Celeste Miller, David N., Frank Coutinho, Jerod Rickert, Jon Knapik, Ken 'Ace' West, Mark Taggart, Pete Fusco, Ray DeGarmo, Scott Pokett, Switchfoot, Travis Heckle & Werner Mueck.
* CotG Game Overview System: When a company is around for over 20 years with new game editions constantly being introduced into the mix the total amount of available material can seem a bit intimidating. An unintentional consequence is that interested newcomers and curious returning players may find themselves lost in a state of content overload. Since inception the CotG Overview System has mapped out a path to over 40 FG products. Practical information on story arcs, specialty matches, programs, roster compositions, upgrades, downgrades, debuts and exits help players to plan out their next sequential move from with-in any given brand or even plot a jump into a different FG product entirely. A show of gratitude to our system contributors: Aaron 'Chewey' Chiu, Aaron Anderson, Big Bri, Chad Olson, Cory Olson, David Morse, Eric Konecne, Jeff T, Jim Steel, Joe Scully, Matt Dickendesher, Mike M, Tommy Brownell, Troy Xavier & Turkish.
* Filsinger Games Community Citizen Award: Each quarter this board recognizes those members who have made a decidedly positive impact on this online community. These are people who have gone above and beyond to contribute in ways that carry an enduring value from which everyone on this board directly and indirectly benefits. Congratulations to this year's very deserving recipients: Mr. Hyde, Lord Rahl and Jon Knapik!
* Fed of the Month Program: Players posting their Feds online has long been a staple of community activity. It helps to promote game content and encourages shared enthusiasm of this hobby. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to post their results and congratulations to all of those who have won the FOTM Award this calendar year: Avarice, Cory Olson, Dharneth, Eliath, Havoc, Old Skewl, Overman, Switchfoot, Tim Dalton & toasterboy. An additional thanks to Eliath who has been kind enough to volunteer his time each month in helping to maintain the system.
* 2009 CotG/LOW Booking Challenge: Running from May into late July was the longest contest in Filsinger Games Message Board history. Over the course of a 12 week period sixteen board members participated in a competition that produced over 90 booking challenges with each stage progressively more difficult than the next. I want to extend my appreciation to those who made this project's execution possible by being kind enough to lend their time and act as judges: Cory Olson, Jon Knapik, Osk, Swarm, Tournament Master & Troy. An additional congratulations to our four dedicated finalists who endured to the end and saw this contest down to its completion: Eliath, Mark 138, jasonjaconetti & Valour.
* Board Rumbles: One of the most popular recurring board activities has been the contest where board members vote for which FG Brand wrestler they want to "keep" or "boot" in elimination fashion. Computation of this fast moving contest is no easy task, but board member Jim Steel has never failed to step up and somehow make the system work flawlessly. Thanks Jim!
* Rahl Rating System Guide: One of the most impressive contributions ever made to this board was by community member Lord Rahl. Not only did he develop a comprehensive system that allows players to quantify any card that uses the FG game play format, but he then proceeded to invest his time in scoring virtually every card Filsinger Games has ever produced. In tribute to what he created a thread was established detailing step by step how his system works so others can easily put it to use on their own time for many years to come. Thank you LR for leading the way!
* L-FSCE Project: This project was designed to help support the value offered in Promoter Online while providing players of the GWF Classics brand with an ongoing source of new support material. The 'Lost-Found' concept allows players to selectively cherry pick the strategic use of wrestlers from with-in the L-FSCE system without any connecting creative consequences tied to the non-use of others. The freedom of choosing 'who' to use 'why' and 'when' allows for the customization of roster size and composition without the drawbacks traditionally imposed by roster creep.
The creative has been supplied by the many talented members of our community. When people talk about resubscribing to the Promoter for the first time in years in order to gain access to the set or reference buying back issues to obtain specific cards in the L-FSCE system it speaks volumes about the project's efficacy. The output has been outstanding and it has been a pleasure working with everyone who has helped to make it a success: Aaron 'Chewey' Chiu, Andrew Comte, Big Bri, Captain Cold, Cory Olson, Curt Ligot, David Morse, Dharneth, Graymar, Jim Karantonis, Joe Scully, Ken West, Kevin Viceman, Kevin Wible, Ray DeGarmo, Roberto Bontemps, Tommy Brownell, Troy Xavier & Vidtek. An additional tip of the cap to Jon Knapik (who selflessly produces the best PDFs possible), Werner Mueck (who is perfect with every drawing), Lord Rahl (who is kind enough to double check the Rahl Rating score on every card) & Mr. Beefy (who was integral in helping with the early production of the video library).
Looking back I'm happy to say that the bar was raised very high this year. In 2010 we'll continue to build on those strengths while launching new projects that promote an even deeper foundation. Best wishes to you and yours 'away from the board' and thank you for helping to make this hobby a bit more interesting for everyone who happens to pass by here along the way.
