In early June my LOW fed Major League Wrestling will be conducting its annual draft between its three brands (RAW, Smackdown, and the EAWA).
Last year I tried to do my draft like the WWE does by having inter-promotional matches with the brand of the winning wrestler getting a draft pick. The only problem was that last year Smackdown wrestlers kept winning the matches and it was making my draft sort of lopsided until I booked some matches that gave wrestlers from RAW and the EAWA a much better chance of winning.
So, if my goal is to try and make my draft somewhat equal for all 3 of my brands, do you think it's better in your opinion to do it by dice-based match results or just select the wrestlers and announce who is moving where as my draft?

I could see you doing it dice-based, but why not just choose?

I could see you doing it dice-based, but why not just choose? Well I do actually choose the wrestlers who get drafted. But last year I wasn't planning on Smackdown piling as many draft picks by winning all of those matches when I turned my annual draft into part of one of my weekly televised wrestling shows.

If your primary goal is a balanced draft the safest way is to just pre-plan it without the dice. If you would like some level of spontaneity you can limit random elements by either running less draft related matches and/or making the match consequences cumulative (ie. Brand X wins the first draft pick if they clinch a best 3 out of 5 inter-brand series). To make random selections seem logical you could tier a group of guys who you feel would be top pick material, use an alphabetizer to create a quick numbered name list and then let a number generator decide the draft pick. I'd probably pre-plan where the upper level talent goes and determine where the mid and lower card talent go randomly. You'll make sure none of the feds are top-heavy and still have the random element to shake things up.
