Buddy Rogers (7) v. Cowboy Bob Orton (55)
The Nature Boy is working the fans for heat before the bell and they are all over him. Rogers sets the early pace including a deathjump clothesline until Orton counters a backdrop with a piledriver. Rogers is stunned and Orton capitalizes with a SUPERPLEX. 1, 2, 3 (R3/P3). Orton is onto the quarterfinals.

Rikidozan is double tough. Big win over the Killer. I have to consider Orton's win a huge upset. On paper, Rogers is someone I'd peg to be one of the favorites. With the magic of the dice, a SUPERPLEX can take out any man!

Thanks LWPD. Orton have really upset some apple carts on the way to the quarterfinals.
Mil Mascaras (3) v. Harley Race (19)
The crowd is on their feet for Mascaras as he comes to the ring. Mascaras greets the fans at ringside before he steps into the ring with one of the toughest competitors of all time. Mascaras uses his speed very well early on and hits three slingshot planchas to get a 1 count (R7/P2). Race counters a standing surfboard and quickly hits a vertical suplex for a 1 count of his own (R12/P1). It goes back and forth. Mascaras gets control again with his speed. Mascaras hits a crossbody block deathjump for a 2 count (R5/P3) and follows with a CROSSBODY ATTACK for a 2 count (R6/P4). Mascaras just keeps coming and ends it with a FLYING BODYPRESS (R3/P6).

Nick Bockwinkel (6) w/Bobby Heenan v Don Leo Jonathan (22)
There is a great weasel chant to get thing started and the crowd is hot before the bell. Bockwinkel gets too close Jonathan and pays for it with a giant swing for a 1 count (R8/P3). Bockwinkel is reeling from Jonathan’s power attack and bails to the floor. Bockwinkel stops Jonathan with a whip into the ringpost. Bockwinkel maintains the advantage and wraps up Jonathan in an abdominal stretch that forces Jonathan to grab the ropes (R4/P2). Bockwinkel stuns the fans with a back suplex on Jonathan but the advantage is short lived as Jonathan uses his power to get back on top. A giant swing spills Bockwinkel to the floor and the action follows him. Both men battle back and forth at ringside. The referee is out to break things up but Jonathan shoves him out of the way and is disqualified.
And then they were eight. Will we get a battle of the Giants in the semi-finals or will Andre and/or Baba fall in the quarter finals? Will Orton’s incredible Cinderella run continue?
Andre The Giant (1) v. Jim Londos (40) Terry Gordy (12) v. Giant Baba (13) Rikidozan (34) v. Cowboy Bob Orton (55) Mil Mascaras (3) Nick Bockwinkel (6)

Been following and enjoying. Nice looking 'Great 8". Like Andre to take it all and do his 1 seed proud.

Thanks for the comments Kamala and Swarm. Could we possibly have an Ace v. Andre final?
Andre the Giant (1) v. Jim Londos (40)
Two the most popular competitors from their respective generations clashed in the first quarter final bout. Both men are out to huge ovations and the action starts with a handshake. Londos has an understanding early on of what he must do to survive and uses his agility to set up a short arm scissors. Andre catches Londos in the corner and a turnbuckle squash gets a 1 count (R10/P1). Andre follows with a powerbomb (ch) and a BIG SPLASH (R7/P7) for the win. The Giant continues to roll through the competition.

Terry Gordy (12) v. Giant Baba (13)
These two spent years battling in the same rings in Japan so they know each other well. Gordy is fired up and looks like he may attack Gary Michael Cappetta but Baba steps in and the action is underway. Baba chops down Gordy but the founding member of the Freebirds catches Baba with an elbow to the chest in the corner and then follows with a deathjump crossbody block for a 1 count (R10/P2). Gordy stuns Baba at ringside with back suplex that has the fans on their feet. Later, Baba Irish whips Gordy into the ring post shoulder first. Gordy returns the favour a few minutes later. Baba is able to roll clear of Gordy’s deathjump attack and then covers Gordy for a 1 count (R7/P2). NECKBREAKER DROP but Gordy kicks out (R7/P6). Baba is in control. He sends Gordy into the ropes and both men go for a clothesline and crash to the mat. Gordy is up first and connect with a running lariat. Gordy sends Baba into the ropes this time and once again both men go for a clothesline and crash to the mat. Ringside is electric as Gordy regains his feet first. PILEDRIVER. 1, 2, 3. Gordy has beaten one Giant but will have to go through another to make it to the finals.

Rikidozan (34) v. Cowboy Bob Orton (55)
Many insiders are surprized to see Cowboy Bob Orton in the quarterfinals. Orton continues to prove that he deserves to be in there going move for move with Rikidozan. Orton counters a figure four leglock attempt and then scores with a middle rope splash. A second rope powerslam nearly ends it (R2/P1). It is all Orton. A spinning neckbreaker (ch) sets up another second rope powerslam. Orton hooks the leg for 2 (R7/P2). Orton is all over his opponent. Back to back piledrivers get a 2 count (R7/P3). Orton comes off the corner with a deathjump smash and punishes Rikidozan with another second rope powerslam. A piledriver gets Orton another near fall (R7/P4) before Orton completes the upset in dominating fashion with a SUPERPLEX (R5/P7)

What an amazing run by Cowboy Bob Orton. It will be interesting to see how he fares against the Mascaras-Bockwinkel winner. The big question is if he gets to the finals and potentially faces Andre the Giant can he Superplex him? Awesome stuff, Bookerbill, I'm really psyched for the final bouts.
