I want to start a old-time/catch-as-catch-can style division in my Legends fed. Mainly to spotlight the vintage guys. I'm trying to brainstorm ideas on how to run it. At first I thought to just not use charts to reflect it as being purer mat wrestling, etc. But that idea is not something differentiated in the actual presentation to the 'audience'. There should be some kind of rules to make it different. Maybe keep the charts but to use them (ropes, deathjump, out of ring) you risk disqualification and have to roll. Obviously no outside interference. I also considered reflecting the hours-long matches that used to take place by starting with the low PIN rating and maxing it at the high rating. Has anyone else done something like this? I would love ideas but want to stick within the published rules (no new charts or homebrew mechanics). And any name suggestions for the format?

Well, I would probably contest most matches in a 2 out of 3 falls format. That is how most matches took place. That would certainly extend the length of most matches.
If a match isn't a 2 out of 3 falls match I would probably give it a time limit. There were times where refs would make a decision at the end of that time limit. You could say that the person who had inflicted the most pin attempts would get the decision.
Another type of match that was pretty common was a handicap match. This isn't the 2 on 1 handicap that we are more used to nowadays. These were matches where Frank Gotch would say "I'm the best in the world. I can pin "Yankee" Joe Rogers 5 times in one hour." These were typically matches where one wrestler was outmatched in a fairly obvious way. Now, on occasion, Frank Gotch couldn't pin his opponent 5 times in one hour. This would result in a "finish match."
DQs were pretty uncommon so I probably wouldn't do anything that would increase DQs.
Not sure if any of this helped but this is the kind of thing that comes to mind when talking about the rules and types of matches in the vintage era.

You could also use the World of Sport rules and have Round matches.
