Revival #15: Blaze of Glory Tour
from Marcus Ampitheatre (Milwaukee, WI)
- Six Man Tag Match -
Gorgeous George (w/ Cherie Dupre) and Hollywood Blonds vs. Scott Casey and The Taylors
Rock Riddle defeated Scott Casey via pinfall at 2:08
Match Rating: 0.00 (dud)
Match Notes: DDP remarks that this is the first of two six-man contests on the card. The audience is getting a taste of how George and the Blonds function before they meet RVD and the Rn'F Connection at Motor City Mayhem.
Not a single tag is made in this brief encounter. Casey lands some impressive offense, but the underhanded tactics of Riddle are too much for him to handle. After landing a flying crossbody off the ropes, Riddle hooks the tights for a tainted win. (Fatigue: n/a)
Animal (w/ Hawk) vs. Mark Briscoe (w/ Jay Briscoe)
Animal defeated Mark Briscoe via disqualification at 3:37
Match Rating: 0.50
Match Notes: Plenty of harsh words are exchanged between Jay Briscoe and Hawk, but neither man attempts to interfere in this heated confrontation. It does not take long for the fight to get out of hand and the ref calls for the bell after Mark drives his opponent's face into a steel chair outside the ring. Not wanting things to end in such a manner, even Animal appears frustrated with the outcome. (Fatigue: n/a)
Hawk (w/ Animal) vs. Iron Sheik (w/ Nikolai Volkoff)
Hawk defeated Iron Sheik via disqualification at 2:29
Match Rating: 0.50
Match Notes: A power struggle that turns ugly as both men look for ways to gain leverage over their opponent. Both men are warned several times about their tactics outside the ring, but Sheik pushes the envelope a little too far when he blatantly nails Hawk with a kick below the belt. (Fatigue: Hawk 1)
Jay Briscoe (w/ Mark Briscoe) vs. Nikolai Volkoff (w/ Iron Sheik)
Jay Briscoe defeated Nikolai Volkoff via pinfall at 10:43
Match Rating: 2.50
Match Notes: Trish indicates that the fans are not really getting their money's worth with this tag team round robin preview. Following two technical decisions in a row, she is hoping that the next bout will offer a more satisfactory finish. She is far from disappointed.
The combatants deliver a hard hitting affair, trading one move for another from the moment the opening bell rings. Volkoff gets busted open after Jay lands a somersault plancha that sends him crashing face first into a guardrail. Although he refuses to stop fighting, it slows him down considerably. Jay picks his spots and tears through his opponent's defenses. Iron Sheik tries to help his partner, but Mark Briscoe keeps him honest. Volkoff manages to kick out after one JAY DRILLER, but a second keeps him down for a three count. (Fatigue: Volkoff 5)
- The Lunatic Fringe -
Wearing her painted on smile, Leva Bates greets the newest additions to the PWR roster - 'American Dragon' Bryan Danielson and El Generico. Together they are known as Final Countdown! Jon Moxley talks to the duo about their upcoming match against The Dark Menace's Dream Team later on this very show. There is no underestimating the importance of this bout, as the winners will be entered into the round robin series to crown the first Revival Tag Team Champions at Motor City Mayhem.
Danielson does all the talking for him and his partner. His confidence level is so high that many would mistake it for arrogance. "Experience is no substitute for hunger. Mr Beefcake and Mr Valentine are soon going to learn that lesson the hardest way possible." Before leaving, El Generico chimes in. "OLE!"
- Six Man Tag Match -
Rob Van Dam and Rock n' Funk Connection vs. Wild Bill White and Double Axe Attack
Marty Jannetty defeated Wild Bill White via pinfall at 13:07
Match Rating: 3.00
Match Notes: The action does not slow down for an instant as both sides display formidable teamwork. The senior Hennig causes some serious damage, tossing Jannetty around until RVD stops him cold with a legdrop across a guardrail. Spying an opportunity, the younger Hennig blindsides RVD and hits a HENNIG PLEX for a near fall. Scorpio makes the save with a spectacular slingshot dive. Wild Bill tries to make a contribution, but Jannetty nails him with a ROCKER DROPPER to earn an exciting victory. (Fatigue: RVD 3, Jannetty 1 - White 1, CHennig 1, LHennig 4)
Gorgeous George and the Hollywood Blonds step onto the runway to taunt the winners. Pointing to himself, RVD reminds the trio to get ready for Motor City Mayhem by leading the crowd in a familiar cheer. "I'm ROB VAN DAM!"
Final Countdown vs. The Dream Team (w/ The Dark Menace)
Bryan Danielson defeated Brutus Beefcake via submission at 4:38
Match Rating: 1.00
Match Notes: An unbelievable debut by Final Countdown firmly puts an end to the hopes of The Dark Menace of having his Dream Team included in the championship round robin series at Motor City Mayhem. Danielson displays a vicious streak, removing Valentine from the equation with a discus elbow that catches him in the throat. El Generico wrecks Beefcake with his patented BRAINBUSTAAAHHH!!! (+4) and Danielson follows up by locking on a TRIANGLE CHOKE. The Dark Menace reaches into the ring in an attempt to help the struggling Beefcake reach the ropes. El Generico dives off the apron, wiping out the Menace and Valentine. (Fatigue: Beefcake 2)
It quickly becomes obvious who The Dark Menace blames for his team falling short of their objective. With his manager urging him on, Valentine lays a vicious beatdown on Beefcake. Looking at his handiwork, Valentine takes a step back and pronounces that it's time for Beefcake to wake up because this particular 'dream' is over.
Harley Race vs. Jimmy Snuka
Harley Race defeated Jimmy Snuka via pinfall at 4:16
Match Rating: 1.00
Match Notes: DDP notes that this is a highly anticipated rematch from Revival #2, where Snuka was disqualified for striking the official. Although there was some debate over whether it was accidental, Snuka has transformed into a truly feral competitor since that time. In an attempt to maintain order, Morgan Dollar is selected as the ref for this encounter and he refuses to be intimidated by either man.
The battle itself falls well short of its lofty expectations. Snuka lands a few high impact strikes, but Race endures and bears down on his opponent. A brief exchange out on the floor ends with Race ramming Snuka into the ringside steps. Without ceremony, he tosses Snuka back into the ring. A VERTICAL SUPLEX followed by a patented PILEDRIVER leads to a virtually unopposed triumph. (Fatigue: Snuka 2)
- Wildside Rules -
AJ Styles vs. Randy Savage (w/ SoCal Val)
Randy Savage defeated AJ Styles via pinfall at 16:39
Match Rating: 4.00
Match Notes: The advantage swings back and forth at a blistering pace with neither man showing any hesitation to escalate their efforts to the extreme. Styles blasts Savage with a springboard forearm smash off the announcers table that carries both men into the front row. Their fight continues through the crowd and Savage delivers a groins his opponent on a metal guardrail. Back inside the ring, Styles lands a low blow that staggers Savage long enough to get him in position for the STYLES CLASH. SoCal Val climbs onto the apron and starts hurling insults at Styles, prompting him to drop Savage and go after his manager. With a sudden burst of energy, Savage executes a vaulting neck snap that drops Styles in the middle of the ring. Leaping to the top rope, Savage plasters Styles with a FLYING ELBOW DROP to emerge triumphant. (Fatigue: Savage 4 - Styles 3)
All three members of the commentary team hail the performance of both competitors. DDP trusts this is a sign of things to come during the Fatal Four match at Motor City Mayhem when these two men share the ring with Harley Race and Kevin Steen. Acknowledging Savage's female companion, Trish wonders if SoCal Val could be the deciding factor in the showdown.
