Just caught this on the Observer site:
Toronto fixture Billy "Red" Lyons is in rough shape in the hospital in Kitchener, ONT. We don't have more details but Dick Beyer reported that the situation is not good.
I hope for the best. Lyons is a class act.

My thoughts and prayers to Billy Red Lyons and his family right now. Billy Red Lions is arguably the wrestling personality I cherish the most, because he was key to one of my happiest moments growing up - being a wrestling fan. A lot of my teen years were not good ones, but whenever I would watch WWF matches, life got a lot better.
I grew up in WNY, which allowed me to catch WWF Canada from across the lake. And for WWF Canada in the 80's, Billy Red was the announcer on their weekly shows. With a smile and dark blue WWF blazer, he would introduce the cards and interview promos with a unique and familiar flair. He started off each and every segment with "And (insert name of wrestler or tag team) puts another one in the plus column! Good afternoon, wrestling fans! Billy Red Lyons here at the World Wrestling Federation, here to tell you about the exciting card of matches coming to (name of city or province here)..."
Then he would run down the matches with great enthusiasm and drama, and then cut to the pre-packaged promo interviews. Afterwards, he would wrap up the dates of the shows, and end with a big smile, telling us "Don't you dare miss this one!".
I never saw him wrestle, but in his announcing role, he left an amazing memory for me to draw upon whenever I need a smile or that warm fuzzy feeling in my heart.

RIP, Mr. Lyons. I'll give him a title shot in LOW today in honor of what he gave to wrestling.

sad day indeed.
I'll always remember him on Maple Leaf Wrestling and as the ring announcer when WWF came to Buffalo. Met him at Ilio DiPaolo's restraunt when I was real young and I always thought he was such a nice guy.
