Capitol City Wrestling March 6, 1982 Essex, MD Essex Legion Hall
Card #12
TV- Capitol Superstars
*Lance Russell tells the fans that the hours are ticking away until the big card tomorrow night in Baltimore. We have some exciting matches but everyone is gearing up for BIG CITY NIGHTS. In fact he has been told that Ric Flair is in the building and will make an appearance on this very program. All this and much more.
1) "Handsome" Jimmy Valiant (w/Sherri Martel) beat Brad Armstrong by Disqualification @ 1:51 when Austin Idol hit the ring with a baseball bat in his hands and chased off both of them.
*Russell brings Idol over to the podium and asks him about the situation with Martel and her men. Idol is incensed. He says that he's more embarrassed than anything that he let his guard down and allowed someone to get inside his head. But retribution is going to be sweet and Greg Valentine I plan on starting with you tomorrow night in Baltimore!
-Non-Title Match- 2) "Nature Boy" Ric Flair (c) defeated George South with the Figure-Four Leglock @ 2:25.
Flair hardly broke a sweat and punished his foe with repeated chops and his patented hold.
*Flair takes his time making his way over to Lance Russell. He is met by two ladies in bikini tops that hand him a towel. "Is this livin' or what Lance? You know the World champion is in town, huh?" Russell laughs but wants to ask about the challenge that Barry Windham poses tomorrow night. Flair says that he's faced Windham dozens of times. He's a big strong athlete who understands how to wrestle. He knows he'll be tough but he's no Ric Flair. Barry Windham makes his way out after those comments and points a finger at Flair. "You love to talk but when we get in that ring for the Main event and all the lights are on us the only thing that matters is will you be able to beat me." Flair smiles and tells Windham he'll get his chance tomorrow like all the rest but tonight he has more important plans and he eyes both girls. Windham laughs and grabs one blonde lady by the waist and plants a huge kiss on her much to Flair's dismay. Flair pushes at Windham who quickly slaps Flair and knocks him to the ground. Windham leaves, "Polish that belt up champ." Flair then goes nuts and screams for Windham to bring himself back here to get what's coming to him. Russell calls for a break.
*Jon Massif is in the ring with Lance Russell and the two plan on going down the card for BIG CITY NIGHTS.
Main Event for the NWA World Heavyweight Title, Ric Flair defends against Barry Windham.
The CCW tag team champions, The Fantastics will defend against the winner of today's main event - Steve Williams & Ted DiBiase or Oliver Humperdink's Red Menace.
Austin Idol will face Greg Valentine in a battle of revenge.
Bob Roop and "Exotic" Adrian Street will wrestle a 2 out 3 falls match.
Lance notes that the Maryland Heavyweight title is not up for grabs yet. Massif corrects him and produces a piece of paper that was signed by the Magnificent Muraco asking for a shot against Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka. Now, Muraco has seen very limited action in singles action so far and he really warrants no consideration for a title match. But I asked Mr. Snuka what he thought and he said that he would be happy to kick Muraco around the ring, so it's been signed. The fans erupt!
We should have 8 great matches in all so tickets are still available.
-Tag Team Top Contenders Match- 3) Red Menace (w/Oliver Humperdink) beat "Dr. Death" Steve Williams & Ted DiBiase when Nikolai Volkoff pinned DiBiase @ 12:10.
A fairly even match that was marred by interference. All four men were engaged in a pier six brawl in the ring when Ox Baker and One Man Gang were at ringside. Baker jumped the apron and delivered a Heart Punch to DiBiase as the official was distracted by Gang.

"BIG CITY NIGHTS"
Card #13
1) The Destroyer defeated Iron Sheik (w/Oliver Humperdink) with the Figure Four Leglock @ 8:33.
The Destroyer rallied past the repeated interference attempts Humperdink and was able to secure a much needed win over the Sheik after sinching in his pet hold.
2) Masked Superstar & "Crippler" Ray Stevens beat "Hands of Stone" Ronnie Garvin & "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan when Superstar used the Cobra Hold to get Garvin to submit @ 11:02.
Superstar and Stevens were a tough combo and they have further solidfied a possible title shot down the road. They used freqent tags and the occasional dirty trick to stay one step ahead of the fan favorites.
3) "Cowboy" Bob Orton beat Brad Armstrong with the Superplex @ 9:01.
Orton felt confident enough that he asked "Magnificent" Muraco who walked him down to ringside to go to the locker room and get ready for his title match. Muraco obliged and Orton had his hands full with the speedy Armstrong by himself. He almost put Orton away twice until he dodged a dropkick and then hoisted him of the top buckle to hit the devastating Superplex.
-Falls Count Anywhere Match- 4) Greg "The Hammer" Valentine (w/Sherri Martel) defeated "Universal Hearthrob" Austin Idol @ 7:37 when Larry Zbyszko interfered on Valentine's behalf.
This grudge match was given the extra stipulation of a "Falls Count anywhere" affair and it didn't take long to leave the ring. Idol was on the warpath and followed Valentine into the crowd. The two exchanged blows until the Hammer used a foreign object to gain the upper hand. Valentine pounded away put could not put Idol away. Idol rallied once more and used a steel chair on Valentine's forehead. As Idol hoisted it up one last time it was grabbed from him by Larry Zbyszko who kicked Idol in the stomach and whipped him into the concrete wall! Valentine dropped the Hammer elbow for good measure and got the pin on the cold floor. Valentine and Zbyszko continued stomping away while Sherri Martel directed traffic. The heels scurried once Ronnie Garvin and Hacksaw Duggan arrived but Idol was a bloody mess.
-CCW Tag Team Title Match- 5) The Fantastics (c) beat The Red Menace (w/ Oliver Humperink) when Tommy Rogers pinned Ivan Koloff after the Rocket Launcher @ 28:01.
This was a very tense match between two top teams. Humperdink's interference backfired here as late in the match he threw white powder into Koloff's eyes by mistake as the ref was busy pulling Volkoff and Fulton apart. The ref noticed Humperdink who was shocked and it allowed a quick double team and the champions to retain the belts.
-2 out 3 Falls Match- 6) Fall #1 - Bob Roop beat "Exotic" Adrian Street (w/ Miss Linda) with a Shoulderbreaker @ 7:21. Fall #2 - "Exotic" Adrian Street beat Bob Roop with the London Bridge Deathlock @ 15:33. Fall #3 - "Exotic" Adrian Street beat Bob Roop with the Daffodill @ 19:34.
Another very competitive match as they two well matched wrestlers gave it their all. During the second fall Miss Linda was caugh too close to the action and was accidentally kicked by Roop. She fell back and the match was briefly stopped as Street screamed at Roop and went wild after she was taken to the back. Street used the rage at the unprovoked though accidental attack to gain the win in hard fought fashion.
-TEXAS DEATH MATCH- 7) Ted DiBiase & "Dr. Death" Steve Williams defeated Ox Baker & One Man Gang when Williams used a Backdrop Driver on Baker @ 9:11.
DiBiase and Williams had the match in hand most of the time and again it was Williams who used the opportunity to be a little extra aggressive to his team's advantage but fo course it was legal. He smashed a steel chair over Baker's head twice opening a huge gash over on his forehead. He then placed the chair on the mat and delivered a sickening Backdrop driver onto the steel. Baker was out and was tended to the medical staff as Williams celebrated but DiBiase wasn't as enthused.
-Maryland State Heavyweight Title Match- 8) "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka (c) beat "Magnificent" Muraco (w/Cowboy Bob Orton) by Disqualification @ 17:45.
Snuka was on the offensive early and had Muraco in trouble. Orton was able to distract Snuka as he stood on the top rope hoping to finish off his foe. Muraco cheap shot him and hit the Hawaiian Hammer but only got a two count. The match then spilled to the outside where Snuka reversed a whip and flung Muraco into Orton as both went flying. Back inside Snuka then hit a huge Powerslam and then went to the top. He gestured to the crowd but before he could fly Orton grabbed his leg causing him to crashg to the mat. The official rang the bell and the match was over. But the attack was about to begin as Muraco landed two more Reverse Piledrivers until Brad Armstrong and "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan burst on the scene to chase off the heels.
-NWA World Heavyweight Title Match- 9) "Nature Boy" Ric Flair (c) beat Barry Windham with the Figure Four Leglock @ 31:52.
This match was a classic and we hope to have highlights for on Lance Russell's next update. Windham was out quickly but could never seem to put away the wily champion. Flair continued to do all he could to stop the momentum be it rolling to the outside or trying to get himself disqualified. Windham's leg was caught after running out of the turnbuckle and Flair seized the opportunity. He worked on the left leg repeatedly but Windham almost got the surprise pinfall with a Small package. Flair stayed on the leg until finally in the center of the ring Flair locked in the Figure Four Leglock and while he hung in for almost three minutes he was forced to concede.

THE RUSSELL REPORT - As of March 8, 1982
* "Hey fans! This is Lance Russell and last night in Baltimore was a tremendous night of wrestling action. If you missed it we will be making it available on VHS in a just a few weeks so you can order a copy if you call this toll free number. But let me give you fans a few of the latest happenings from that big night of action."
*The Fantastics continue to hold back challenges for the CCW Tag Team championship from all directions but my sources tell me that a new team will be making an open challenge to Rogers and Fulton next week.
*It should not have surprised anyone that Sherri Martel has yet another wrestler in her fold as Larry Zbyszko helped Greg Valentine secure a win in his Falls Count Anywhere Match last night. Zbyszko should be cleared in another week to compete and I'm sure Austin Idol will be waiting for him.
*It may have taken a while but something tells me that the first match between Jimmy Snuka and Don Muraco won't be there last for many months and the Maryland State Title hangs in the balance.
*I think a Match of the Year candidate was established as Barry Windham almost took the NWA World Title from Ric Flair. Before I leave you I'll give those that didn't see it some exclusive highlights.

Capitol City Wrestling March 20, 1982 Annapolis,MD Annapolis Convention Center
Card #14
TV - Capitol Superstars
*Lance Russell welcomes the sports fans to another edition of Superstars. He's excited to recap all the action from "Big City Nights". First, there were no title changes though a few came close to capturing the gold. Barry Windham should be commended for his effort against Ric Flair but on that night it was not to be. Sherri Martel introduced a new member in her stable with Larry Zbyszko making his presence known in the Greg Valentine-Austin Idol match. The war between Jimmy Snuka and Don Muraco over the Maryland State belt is just getting started. Meanwhile an interesting development may be occuring between Adrian Street and Bob Roop as Street's valet was accidentally injured during their match but Street seems to feel that it wasn't a mistake. All this and much more today and we have a NUMBER ONE CONTENDERS match between Oliver Humperdink's Red Menace and the Masked Superstar and Ray Stevens. Should be a dandy.
-Next big card - June 18 - "Hold the Line"
1) Ox Baker defeated Bob Roop with the Heart Punch @ 5:22.
Roop was out quickly attempting to outsmart and outwrestle his larger foe. He was doing well for himself until "Exotic" Adrian Street was out at ringside yelling at Roop. Miss Linda was also in tow and she was sporting a neck brace as she stood near Russell at the podium. Street's distractions were difficult to overcome and Baker slammed two Heart Punches into Roop and gained the three count.
*Adrian Street meets Lance Russell at the podium with an apparently injured Miss Lina. Russell wants to talk to Linda but Street refuses claiming that her voice box has been injured by that coward Bob Roop. He tells Roop that he will stalk him to the ends of the Earth and that he has made it his mission to rid Roop from CCW forever! Russell wants to show the video tape from their match in Baltimore to show that it was indeed a mistake but Street will have none of it and claims this is just the beginning of Roop's destruction.
2) Iron Sheik (w/Oliver Humperdink) beat Ted DiBiase with the Camel Clutch @ 7:10.
Sheik was back in the win column after a disapointing loss in Baltimore. DiBiase was rolling but couldn't put the Iranian away. Finally Humperdink tossed powder into DiBiase's eyes while the ref was distracted checking the Sheik's boot. The Sheik then cinched in the Camel clutch but refused to let go after the bell had rung. Quickly DiBiase's tag partner Steve Williams rushed in and leveled Sheik with a lariat. Sheik was stunned on the outside and pointed back at Williams as he left the scene.
*Sherri Martel is out with Larry Zbyszko and Zbyszko takes the mic from Russell to begin the interview. He says that he deserves better and that now he is with the ultimate manager and woman in Sherri Martel he has a long list to get through and it ends with Barry Windham and the Heavyweight title. But for now he's looking squarely at Steve Williams. He is the man that put him on the shelf with an unprovoked attack and he has something coming to him and with Sherru Martel guiding him he can't be stopped. He mentions to Austin Idol that Baltimore was just about business and he was in the wrong place.
3) "Hands of Stone" Ronnie Garvin pinned Larry Zbyszko (w/Sherri Martel) with a Hand of Stone @ 6:55.
Zbyszko used his usual dirty tactics along with the distraction of Sherri to give himself a great advantage. But Austin Idol interjected himself and caused Zbyszko to spin around to get knocked out by Garvin with one punch.
-#1 Contenders Match- 4) Masked Superstar & "Crippler" Ray Stevens beat Red Menace (w/Oliver Humperdink) when Stevens pinned Ivan Koloff with the Bombs Away @ 21:01.
Koloff and Volkoff seemed to be lacking vital communication skills as they were on the receving end of several double teams and missed moves. The finish saw Stevens come flying off the top as Superstar kept Volfoff busy in the corner. No word on when Superstar and Stevens will face the tag champions.

Very interesting to see Zbysko with Sheri. I think the feud between Roop and Street is very fun. I love Linda comiong out in a neck brace. Windham and the Fantastics both are on a big time roll.
