I would also love for the entire original set to be redone, but if they are going with a limited number of cards then I would have to say:
Brute Massacre Wolf Thantos Star Warrior & Mutant

Personally, I'd love to see the whole original set re-done. People kicked it around a while back, but now it would really make sense... new color cards, tweaked card backs to 'power up' the originals to take in account the game's evolution.. that'd be a real winner, IMO. I agree with Wildfire that a new art / new tweaked colored original set would be awesome and it would be a hit all around... I'll DITTO that as well!!!!!! Heck, I'd pay for every edition up through 2118 to get new art/tweaked/colored...maybe Darryl and Werner could tag-team...it would revive my interest in going back and starting from 2087 and onward again, plus I'd be back to tabletop and away from online like the old days!!!!

So many great characters to chose from. If limited to just six, I'd go with a mix of two top tier singles programs, and a super team that could compete on par with any combo of the other four:
Thantos & Star Warrior: numbers 1 and 1a, top heel and lead face who paved the way for countless others
Invincible Krakan & Lord Nexus: two living legends/semi-main event talents who had an enduring impact for many game editions to come
Brute & Massacre: The Gladiators helped to define tag team wrestling for untold numbers of players from the old pre-Internet/PWI ad days
Honorable mentions:
Omega: elder statesman who made the GWF possible
Greek Gods: top face team of the early days, were to the Gladiators what the Rock n Roll Express was to the Midnights

Since Thantos and Wolf already have color special edition cards, I'm voting for who I think are the most influential stars from the first set other than those two.
1. Star Warrior 2. Brute 3. Massacre 4. Lord Nexus 5. Invincible Krakan 6. Commander Sam

Come on Tom, we need to think bigger than just 6! What a great way to reignite the passion in the GWF than a reboot (ala some of the new re-imagining of many movies/games lately) For example, take a look at the new Lara Croft. Imagine the whole set with a slightly edgier vibe shown off in color! That's something I'd want to pay for!!
(But if we're limited to 6: 1. Thantos 2. Star Warrior 3. Brute 4. Massacre 5. Executioner (He would be my favorite, with a REAL medieval look, chipped ax, etc!) 6. Massif (I agree that poor Massif never got any kind of update, etc. until he was out of the Fed, we need a new view on him!)
