If it happened on TV, that's evidence that it's a work right there. I need evidence that it was a shoot, not the other way around. i.imgur.com/r1oUl.jpgMore evidence--like I said, the WWE production staff is too good, and the show too meticulously laid out production-wise, to let that slip by accidentally, and the Rock is too good to blatantly display that unless he wanted to. Plus, since when would the Rock possibly need crib notes? Dude's been cutting promos since before Cena was in the business and part of his day job is memorizing lines. As for why they need to Cena to get one over...no, WM is not in danger of failing as a drawing card, but they have to look long-term, past WM, too. Even if the consensus on this board is that Cena has come across better, I can guarantee the majority of the "WWE Universe" isn't seeing it that way. Further the anti-Cena reaction in Miami is likely to be so one-sided that there's a chance the build-up as it was could have been undone anyway. Add in the fact that there's a chance Cena's doing the job--I really don't know and I don't think any of us do for sure--and it's important long-term that he looks as strong as possible in doing it. Cena's going to be back working on Raw the weeks after WM. Rock probably isn't. And Rock putting Cena over on the mic is arguably just as important or moreso than doing it in the ring.

But that's my point. None of that really helped Cena at all. Rock was still doing his schtick and the fans were still going crazy for him as the show went off the air. It changed nothing.
And works don't happen through online pics and dirt sheets. 99% of fans eill never see that pic or even know about it. Just the IWC. I really think this is being grossly over-analyzed. If WWE.com is saying nothing about it and Cena isn't tweeting about it then it's not a work. It's had absolutely zero carry-over since Monday in the "WWE Universe". Just the IWC, which means nothing.
If anything, Vince probably wants to sweep it under the rug. How bad does the business look all of a sudden if TMZ reveals that their biggest star reads off cliff notes written on his arm? That's the LAST thing "fake wrestling" needs the gen public focusing in on. I'd guess the cameras caught it because they weren't looking for it. Rock probably wrote in his arm himself without anyone else knowing and just went out there and did his thing. And Cena called him on it. That's all I think it is.

Yeah, well, this is a group of pretty hardcore wrestling fans. Overanalysis is what we do--all of us.
If Rock wrote the crib notes in secret without anybody knowing then how did Cena know to call him on it? Because he was either clued in or Rock did everything except shove the arm right into the camera and say "Look at this!" (Okay, he was still more subtle about it than that, but I refuse to believe Rock could be that careless.)
As for "no fallout"...well, we haven't even gotten to the next Raw yet, and JR and others are Tweeting about how there's "legit heat" now ("If there wasn't before there is now" I believe was how Ross put it). It's a different kind of work than what WWE normally does, but I don't see a big difference between this and the big CM Punk promo from the summer. I may have the details wrong but I recall that was similarly swept under the rug, at least until he got the mic the next week.
Look, I don't have a PROBLEM with any of this. None of this is a complaint--just the opposite, I think it's all pretty brilliant as a way to get people thinking there's legit heat in a different way than the usual wrestling/Russo bullshit. But I still think any "legit heat" is overblown at least or nonexistent at the most.

Despite the advertised return of The Rock to WWE TV, this week's edition of Raw scored a 3.1 cable rating, which is down from the previous week's 3.24 draw.
The show took in 4.65 million viewers, which is roughly equal to the amount of viewers the show took in last week, which was the post-Elimination Chamber PPV edition of Raw.

More proof the Rock is really doing nothing special for the WWE with his "special appearances." Both the Rock and Vince need a reality check. He's the not the "star" he thinks he is. He can't just "show up" and create money. If *wrestling* fans are going to tune in to see him they'' do it to see him *wrestle* (or not cough*survivorseries*cough) not make the same stupid noises and faces show while standing around in the ring for half an hour. Where are all these crossover fans the Rock was supposed to bring with him from Hollywood?

Not surprised about the rating given that the Daytona 500 was moved to Monday night. I couldn't care less about an auto race, but I'm sure many do.
As for the Rock's crib notes and Cena calling him on it...if Cena is calling him out then it is surely a work. WWE wants some of the hardcore fans to get on the side of Cena, which is what Monday night w3as designed to do, and based on reactions I have read has worked.

I admit I watched more of the race than Raw, I am a racing fan. However, I am like a lot of folks out there, not all that excited about the current state of wrestling so the ratings don't seem to suprise me either.

That goes back to what i've thought in recent years. it doesn't really matter who's on the show. heck, when Cena's been off the show ratings havn't changed. Wrestling ratings have been in a holding pattern in recent years. Wtorylines are what made wrestling hot in the late 90's , more than just one guy saying something on a particularly week. i kind of wonder about the notes on the arm. Why would Rock, who's been doing movies for 10 years, need notes anyway?

I think its pretty obvious since Cena will be around long term and Rock will not be. Maybe this is all going over my head but I strongly disagree. The Rock has been making Cena look bad for over a full year now, saying anything he wants about him. But all of a sudden the WWE wants the hardcore fans to get behind Cena? Huh? And they try to accomplish this by having Cena call him out for having notes on his arm? huh?? Then say nothing else about it at WWE.com??? Makes no sense to me at all. Why would Rock, who's been doing movies for 10 years, need notes anyway? Because instead of winging it live in front of thousands he's been reading scripts for the past 10 years?
