- WWEDVDNews reports that WWE has made a significant change to the ECW DVD set that comes out in June. Instead of the set being on the 25 greatest matches in original ECW history, it will now focus on unreleased matches from the Extreme Championship Wrestling archives. This DVD and Blu-ray will be the first in an ongoing series, depending on sales of the first title.
The new title for the DVD and Blu-ray is "ECW: UNRELEASED – Volume 1."

How are these considered unreleased if they were shown on PPV?

How are these considered unreleased if they were shown on PPV? my guess is "unreleased" just means not previously shown on other WWE DVDs I think you can also get these matches on various RF Video DVDs too

- According to an updated listing for the ECW Unreleased Volume 1 DVD that comes out on June 6th, Chris Jericho vs. 2 Cold Scorpio from The Doctor Is In on August 3rd, 1996 has been added to Disc 1 of the set while Jerry Lynn vs. Christian York from Hardcore TV on December 30th, 2000 has been added to Disc 3.
It also appears that the Psicosis vs. Rey Mysterio match has been pulled from the DVD listing but remains on the Blu-ray.

I'd love to support this release so we might be able to see further original ECW DVD/Blu-Ray sets released in the future, but I'm going to have a hard time justifying the purchase when I already own DVDs with this content already on them.
I understand that the WWE wants to release content featuring the better known talent from the original ECW because that is what will appeal to the general audiance, but for guys like me I've seen and own pretty much all of that content. I want to see stuff that I've never seen before or don't already own. Stuff from early ECW circa 94/95. At some point you just get tired of seeing RVD,Sabu, Taz, Shane Douglas, and Tommy Dreamer.

I'm glad they switched to different matches than the top 25 because they would just be putting out a lot of the same matches from their last two ECW dvds. DMK I don't know if they will release anything from the early days of ECW, there's probably not enough interest. At least they don't have anything from the revamped ECW from 2006. I'd also like to see more classic wrestling dvds released. I'd like to see a documentary on more of the territories. Even though I started watching in the very late 80s I love seeing stuff from that time.

I am definately supporting this release, just like I am supportive of the Clash of the Champions set and the others. WWE controls so much stuff that would be great to have on disc, so being supportive of the releases like this will HOPEFULLY mean more like it.

I am definately supporting this release, just like I am supportive of the Clash of the Champions set and the others. WWE controls so much stuff that would be great to have on disc, so being supportive of the releases like this will HOPEFULLY mean more like it. I'll likely pick up the set for the reasons you mentioned but because the set doesn't offer anything new, it's not a first day or week buy. It's more like a "down the road" purchase. I want to see more stuff like this released, and even if it's all stuff I've already seen and own I don't mind so much because it gives a chance to the younger generation to discover ECW. Maybe eventually, if the interest is there with ECW DVDs we might see some releases chronicalling 93-95 ECW. WWE has released a ton of awesome classic wrestling DVDs, but the fact they own nearly everything just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. It pretty much allows Vince to control the history of wrestling and what gets remembered and what gets forgotten. That I definitely don't like.
