I think he got his name from the actor Dolph Lundgren and in a way his looks ? Who else do you know named Dolph??? I like Ziggler and all but he couldn't hold Lundgren's jockstrap.

TEMPORARY THREAD DERAIL: was there ever a more obvious heel turn in Hollywood than Dolph Lundgren's character in the Expendables?
When Dolph Ziggler made his debut under the Ziggler name, I thought that here was this guy who had been repackaged for the third time (first as Kerwin White's caddy, then as a member of the Spirit Squad), and the first two times were such utter fails that I figured he'd get let go within three months. And I think any other WWE performer *would* have been released within three months. But Ziggler worked and earned his spot, and now he seems to have replaced CM Punk and Daniel Bryan as the internet darling that fans want to see succeed.

Always liked the name. Don't get the Billy Gunn comparisons but he has reminded me of Perfect since the beginning. Other than Punk, he's the only other guy I can't miss on Raw. Can't wait for his first real chance at carrying one of two big titles. It could be the comparison comes from him using "the Famasser" style leg drop across the back of the neck? I know he used to use a move like that?! Other than that, I'm not sure what other comparison there would be?!?

He wears pink and shakes his butt on his way to the ring, and has the same-ish hair.
Ziggler is a favorite of mine for a couple reasons. One, he is from Cleveland, the greatest city in the entire world.
He bumps completely insane. I kind of want them to feed him to Ryback, simply because when he takes the Muscle Buster he is going to bounce about 40 feet in the air.
I actually think that Batista is due a lot of credit for making Dolph Ziggler. I remember thinking of how terrible and boring the 'Hi! I'm Dolph" gimmick was, and then he really got a lot of offense in that match and looked really amazing. While it took a nice organic amount of time for him to be atitle contender, that match did a lot for me to make me think he had what it took.
