I thought Green Ant was a better Lex Luger than Lex Luger ever was! You should watch 1989 NWA Lex Luger. He was spectacular that year. Is that the "piledriver" Lex Luger? If so, that is the only time I like him, but that was mostly because of Harley Race.

No, that's before piledriver Luger. That's coming off of the Flair feud, freshly turned heel U.S. Champion Lex Luger.

He was watchable from that era until the end of piledriver Luger. He was sickening to watch before that for the fact that he was so green and they pushed him to the moon. After piledriver Luger (when he left for WWF) his work was almost unbearable. I would rather watch a Battle Royal featurning Zeus, the Bella Twins, the Ding Dongs, Tom Zenk, Ahmed Johnson, Bruce Hart, Jackie Gayda, Mongo McMichael, and Dennis Rodman with Art Donavan on color than watch a post NWA Lex Luger match.

That's because he was in a motorcycle accident in that WBF timeframe and he never really receovered from it entirely.

yeah, Sting and Luger both suffered injuries that took away some of their magic. 89 Luger was about the only time I ever liked him. As champ, he just never clicked for me, although I think WCW was at fault for that more than anything.

I thought the while "presents" storyline wasn't half bad. But, if memory serves me right, Abdullah the Butcher messed up a segment when he came out of the box too early (I may be wrong on that). While Cactus Jack was fun to watch, no one ever believed he would beat Sting at that point in his career. And the "matches" between Sting and Abdullah were even harder to stomach than a Sting-Luger match. I think WCW had a good framework, but the execution of the storyline killed it.

I think at least one reason Luger never got a run as the WWF champion was his inability to talk. I listened to a recent interview he did. For one thing, I got the impression that he didn't know what was going behind the scenes and/or didn't care. Also he stumbled and stammered through the leaving me with the impression he would never be able to do a live shoot spot let alone a scripted spot. Don't get me wrong, most of his in-ring was great pre-WWF, but when opened his mouth he proved very quickly he could never carry any circuit as the main guy … even short term.

This rant is actually a killer Lex Luger promo from 1989.
