Looks like I might have to file for permanent disability. Beings I'm only 46 its something I really am not looking forward to. I can't imagine never working again. Anyways my question is has anybody ever filed or know someone who has that could give me an idea of how the process works? Thanx.

It's a pain in the rear from the people I know. No matter "permanent" they still check and require you to refile periodically. Good luck.

the teacher directly across the hallway from me actually tried to get disability last week so she could resign, but she was rejected and from what I was told it was due to her not having the insurance long enough prior to filing for disability.
So she has returned to teaching across the hall from me, at least for now.

I'm disabled but it was simple for me as I have a birth defect. The rules defer depending on the individual case...and the state you live in ... You could go to Social Secruty that is national...I'll be praying for you as you deal with government.

Sorry, dude. This really sucks. I hope that everything works out for the best, what ever that may mean. Like you said in another thread... at least you have your wonderful family. That is really all that matters.
On the note of disability, I know nothing about how difficult it is or anything. I am never on the side of government (or the insurance industry) but this is one time that I am glad they are trying to keep fraud to a minimum. Unfortunately it makes things much more difficult for those that truly can not work but it is ultimately necessary.
My wife works for our state government (hopefully not for too much longer) and she had a great former boss who told her and their entire staff at that time "Always remember that your paycheck comes from somebody else's." I wish that more people would remember that are "public servants".
Hopefully I am not opening a can of worms or derailing this thread. I just hope that people keep their heads and hearts in the right place. If you can't work and the process is frustrating I just think it helps to remember why. It helps keep your own mind from going to the wrong place.
Good luck. I'll be praying for you too, lordhumongous.

I believe they tend to turn you down the first time through as a habit. From what I've seen, I think it takes about a year or so to really get the ball rolling.

It depends I've seen people get approved right away and others take a while. I've seen cases of people who you can really see that should be approved and keep getting turned down and other people who are collecting disability that you have to sort of question. I knew one guy years ago who had two purple hearts from vietnam, had a metal plate in his head, and was partially paralyzed but wasn't considered 100 percent disabled. He recieved disability benefits through the goverment but not the full amount he deserved. On the other side of the coin I know a lady who seems perfectly fine and able to work but is on disability because she claims she has anxiety so bad she cant hold down a job. Good luck because It's a very wacky system.

Thanx for all the info and well wishes. I totally agree with you pikemojo. If someone is handing out something for free people that don't need it will be in line for it. I have worked one day since Oct 4th and even then it was very hard to finish my shift. I am getting a lawyer to speed it up and help my chances. Either way it comes down to I have my life and my family that's the best possible outcome. If I win great, if I lose oh well there is always somebody worse off that deserves it more. Either way I will move on.

My wife gets it as she has cancer when she was younger and she was in a really bad car wreck several years ago (They were sideswiped by a hummer). Even though they said that she is permenantly disabled physically AND mentally, she still has to apply every year.
Hope it works out for you. You may need to keep applying as they most like will see if you are legit. Sometimes they seem to take it a little far, but I hope you can get it with minimal headache.

I am on fmla thru work as I posted earlier. We were always told by the company that we are one big family and so on. Well it turns out I'm a gulable dumbass. I tried to go back to work on lite duty as my normal job is pretty physical. I was told I can't come back on lite duty because my issue isn't work related. WHAT!? I couldn't believe what I heard. Especially since last year I was on lite duty for over 2 months after my open heart surgery. After being told this my wife and I talked about it. We think that my one happy family employer that cares about each of their employeesand their health is trying to get rid of me. Kick me to the curb. What really pisses me off is before my issue started I was one of the top producers in my department. When we were busy I worked 43 days in a row. A lot of people shut their machines off when they hit the quota. Not me I would bust my ass to get as much as possible. How do I get thanked, my health has made me a employee on the outs. I don't want a hand out from them just a chance to do a position I might be able to handle. I'm not even getting a chance. Am I wrong in my thinking?
