Thanks to Luke, Troy, Victory Roll, and Neily for the comments!
Highlights from the last two episodes of USWA Championship Wrestling, including the first announcements for New Year’s Knockout XIV!
November 25: • The first information for New Year’s Knockout XIV was announced on this episode. A video aired from Commissioner “Bullet” Bob Armstrong from his home in Marietta. Bob was working out in his home gym and sported a faceguard from the damage that the Heavenly Bodies had done to him a couple of weeks ago in Evansville. Bob was flanked by Brad and Brian. He said that in his years in wrestling, as both a wrestler and a commissioner, he has seen a lot of nasty events. But what Jim Cornette and his men did to his family and to several USWA fan favorites in Evansville crossed a line! He knows that Cornette has wanted him out of the commissionership ever since he was made commissioner nearly five years ago. He followed up by saying that Cornette was going to get an early Christmas present, because as of December 1, 2017, he was resigning as commissioner of the USWA! He thanked the USWA Committee for the position but he knows he cannot be a fair commissioner with someone like Cornette “infesting” the USWA. He said that the Committee will decide what will happen next. But with no longer being the commissioner, that meant he can compete again. And he wants to end 2017 in the ring, teaming with his boys. He challenged any three of Cornette’s men to a six-man tag team Music City Street Fight at New Year’s Knockout XIV in Nashville! • “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson was interviewed in studio. Lance Russell congratulated him on his win against Chris Candido last week in Gore Springs. The two-time former World champion thanked Lance and the fans. He noted that he has signed to wrestle Dr. Tom Prichard, “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce, and Mr. Hughes over the next few weeks. He said that with that type of schedule, he needs to complete the puzzle and face “Exotic” Adrian Street. He challenged Street to a Southern Heavyweight title match on New Year’s Eve!
December 2: • Jim Cornette, flanked by Mr. Hughes, was interviewed in-studio. He laughed with delight at last week’s news of the resignation of “Bullet” Bob Armstrong. He said it’s about time and that if the USWA Committee needs ideas for a new candidate, he himself would be a great leader! In response to the two challenges from last week’s show, he said that Bob must have gotten dropped hard on his face and must not have all his mental faculties. But if the Armstrongs want to be embarrassed, they will get their wish! He said that he will put Hughes and the World Tag Team champions The Heavenly Bodies in the ring against them on New Year’s Eve! He said that people get scared walking down the street looking at Hughes! And having grown up on the “mean streets of Louisville,” he is the best teacher for the World Tag Team champions on how to handle themselves in a Street Fight! He said that his men will end 2017 by destroying the Armstrong family! • “The Louisville Slugger” also accepted Bryan Danielson’s challenge for a Southern Heavyweight title bout at New Year’s Knockout! He said that perhaps Danielson is an Armstrong, as he must be foolish to want to fight Street again after having been injured by him twice this year. He ended by saying that Street will hold on to the Southern gold and perform the greatest New Year’s concert ever in “Music City”! • In another big announcement for Cornette’s stable, The Heavenly Bodies will put the USWA World Tag Team titles on the line for the last time in 2017, when they defend against the Tolos Brothers in the main event on December 11 at the Community Center in Cookeville! The Toloses have been impressive since debuting full-time in the USWA in September. They have yet to lose a standard four-man tag team match by pinfall or submission. Will the end 2017 as champions? • It was announced that two-time former World Tag Team champions Steve “Dr. Death” Williams and Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy have decided to leave the USWA. They plan to compete as a team in All Japan Pro Wrestling, where both have competed individually before. Williams had been in the USWA since 2009 and holds the record for the most Southern Heavyweight title reigns with eight. Gordy, ironically, was brought in by “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert in 2014 to go after Williams! The two had great bouts that year, which saw Gordy hold the Southern title as well. When Gilbert fired Gordy from Hot Stuff, International, he and Williams started to team. Lance said that the duo thanked the USWA fans for their great support!
The USWA kicks off the month of December with the last USWA card at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis for 2017! This card will take place on December 4! • In a rematch from a few weeks ago in Evansville, The Flying Redheads will take on Ivan Koloff and Mr. Saito of the House of Humperdink! The Redheads scored an impressive countout victory over “The Russian Bear” and the Japanese Olympian last time. Both teams have impressive win-loss records this year and would love to get a shot at the World Tag Team titles in 2018. Which team will leave Memphis the winners? • Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana will continue his battles with Jim Cornette’s men and specifically his rival from prior to his USWA tenure when he battles former Mid-America Heavyweight champion “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce! Give Cabana credit for never giving up. His heart and fight could finally lead him to a win over Pearce in a USWA ring. But you can bet Pearce and Cornette will have some nefarious plan up their sleeves! • Prior to challenging for the World Tag Team titles in next week’s main event in Cookeville, John and Chris Tolos will take on The Uptown Boys! Tommy Rogers and Marty Jannetty have proven to be an effective duo this year, challenging the Heavenly Bodies for the belts twice this year and even scoring two non-title wins on the champs. Their high-flying, fast-paced offense could be a good counter for the Toloses’ brutal offense and vicious brawling. The Boys’ allies from BTW Bobby Fulton and “Flying” Fred Curry defeated the Toloses in August in Findlay at the combined USWA-BTW card, so perhaps Rogers and Jannetty have been consulting them for tactics. Can the Uptown Boys upset the Canadian brothers or will the Canadians show Rogers and Jannetty that wrestling is spelled “T-O-L-O-S”? • Former Mid-America Heavyweight champion Ray “The Crippler” Stevens returns from a concussion to battle current champion Pepper Gomez. Stevens defeated Gomez in their last meeting last month in Knoxville, one week before Gomez defeated Adam Pearce for the title. After that Knoxville bout, Gomez intercepted Jimmy Hart’s megaphone and clocked him with it, which caused the concussion. Stevens would love not only to defeat Gomez to avenge the injury but also to get a rematch for the Mid-America title. Can Stevens succeed or will “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach” triumph? • “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson is on his path to a Southern title match, facing all of Jim Cornette’s men. This week, he will face one-half of the World Tag Team champions “The Doctor of Desire” Tom Prichard! While Prichard is a six-time World Tag Team champion, he cannot be underestimated as a singles wrestler, as he is a very good technical wrestler and a good brawler. Can he wear down Danielson prior to his title match with “Exotic” Adrian Street or will Danielson go 2-0 against the Heavenly Bodies? • The main event will be a rematch for the USWA World Heavyweight championship. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert will make his first defense against the former champion, the man he defeated for the title, and his blood rival—“The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan! This feud, in many ways, started in Memphis, back in August 2016, when Sullivan, Sir Oliver Humperdink, and the rest of the House of Humperdink turned on Gilbert and injured his leg, putting him out of action for nearly 10 months. To add more fuel to the fire, Sullivan kidnapped Eddie’s brother Doug and somehow conned him into becoming the Dark Patriot. Eddie and the real Patriot unmasked Doug in October in Tupelo and Eddie went on to win the World title from Sullivan the next month in Knoxville. With all the personal animosity between these two, leaving the World champion in the same arena where this war began would be a great feather in the cap. Who will win the latest chapter of this heated feud and leave as World champion?
All these great bouts, plus rivals collide in a grudge tag team match, when “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant and “Superstar” Bill Dundee take on Mad Dog Vachon and Doctor X! As well as Mr. Hughes in action and the debut of the newest House of Humperdink member—the bizarre Hugh Morrus!

I loved the Bill Dundee-Adrian Street title match in MS, as well as that awesome tag match between Koloff & Saito and Doc & Gordy. The USWA is firing on all cylinders, as is Harley Race at 22-0!

Like this angle. Reminds me a bit of the angle Bob did with Jim in Smoky Mountain Wrestling. 6-man tag match with Armstrong, Smothers & Hawk vs Terry & Dory Funk and Bruiser Bedlam in a Loser Waves the Flag match. Hoping it continues down the same path with a potential sequal 6-man tag match.

Thanks to Kevin, Neilybob, Crue Fan, Jobber 83, and Victory Roll for the comments!
December 4, 2017 Card #527: Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis
1) Nacho Barrera kicked off the card with an impressive win in the opener over “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe. The Memphis fans favored the Mexican newcomer in this one. He was aggressive against the New Jerseyan from the opening bell and scored the pinfall in about two minutes after a knee smash to the face! ¼*
2) Hugh Morrus made his debut defeating Jim Powers in about two minutes. The newest member of the House of Humperdink was joined by both Sir Oliver Humperdink and “The Gamemaster” Kevin Sullivan. Powers went after Morrus hard but couldn’t hurt the big man for long and couldn’t keep him down. Morrus gained control and then would cackle at the fans and then immediately get serious. He drove Powers into the buckles, got him down on the mat, and then went up to the top rope. He came off with an amazing moonsault (which he calls No Laughing Matter) to score the pinfall. Sullivan and Humperdink have found a very deadly man as their newest acquisition! DUD
3) Two more House of Humperdink members were victorious as well, as Ivan Koloff and Mr. Saito avenged their loss from last month in Evansville by defeating The Flying Redheads in a similar fashion—via countout. Sir Oliver Humperdink did not accompany his team to the ring, since he had just returned to the locker room with Hugh Morrus and Kevin Sullivan but came back to ringside about three minutes into the bout. Red Bastien started off the bout against the Japanese Olympian and had Saito in trouble. He knocked Saito into the House of Humperdink’s corner with a right hand and didn’t see Saito tag Koloff. He pulled Saito out of the corner but was ambushed from behind by Koloff, who hit a neckbreaker. Bastien rallied back a few moments later when Saito was the legal man again. He tagged to Billy Red Lyons, but the Japanese Olympian regained control a few moments later and he and Koloff tagged in and out, double teaming Lyons for nearly eight minutes. Koloff scored a near fall after a Russian Hammer. Saito hit the Saito suplex for a two-count and tried for a submission with the Scorpion Leglock but the Canadian grappler made the ropes. Lyons blocked a charge from “The Russian Bear” with a big boot to the face and finally made the hot tag to Bastien. Bastien ran wild on Koloff and then got him up into the airplane spin, followed by the atomic drop. He covered Koloff but the former USWA World champion had landed near the ropes and managed to get his foot on the bottom rope for a break. Bastien blasted Koloff with a double knee lift, which busted him open. Lyons came in again and went for the sleeper. He had Koloff in the hold for nearly a minute before Saito made a save. Lyons went to his partner’s playbook and used an atomic drop on Koloff. He went for a cover but again Saito made the save. This time Bastien came in as well and the two brawled to the floor. While Lyons and Koloff continued to battle in the ring, Frank Morrell did not see Humperdink hand Saito Koloff’s chain, which Saito used to punch Bastien! Saito dropped the chain and returned to the apron, so Koloff could tag him. Saito worked over Lyons briefly and then tossed him out of the ring. Humperdink distracted Morrell from the apron, while both Saito and Koloff grabbed the chain and used it to clothesline Lyons! Koloff returned to the corner, while Saito returned to the ring to alert Morrell. Morrell put the count on Lyons. Bastien started to come to on the outside and saw his partner on the floor as well. Despite his best efforts, Bastien couldn’t get Lyons back in by the count of 10, so Morrell called for the bell and awarded the bout to the House of Humperdink after 18 minutes of action! ****
4) Mr. Hughes made short work of Jake “The Milkman” Milliman. Jim Cornette’s bodyguard was dominant again. He hit an impressive, released gut wrench on Milliman but wouldn’t go for the cover. He whipped Milliman into the ropes and caught him on the rebound with the spike slam. The slam was enough to score the pin in about 90 seconds. Cornette was very pleased by his man’s win! DUD
5) Mad Dog Vachon and Doctor X picked up a controversial win over “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant and “Superstar” Bill Dundee in about 12 minutes. The masked man started off the bout for his team, allowing him to wear down the Aussie so that Vachon could come in at the opportune time against his rival. Dundee rallied back and tagged “The Boy from New York City.” Valiant blasted the Algerian with punches and whipped him into the ropes. He telegraphed a back body drop attempt. Vachon grabbed him and immediately hit the piledriver. He was shaken up from Valiant’s punches and took a while to make the cover, so Valiant kicked out. X tagged back in and went for the figure-four but Valiant kicked him off before he could fully lock in the hold. Valiant tagged to the “Superstar,” who ran wild on the masked man but got overzealous and missed a knee smash in the corner. X went for the figure-four in the center of the ring. With “Handsome” Jimmy and the Memphis fans behind him, Dundee made the ropes. Vachon tagged back in but Dundee cut him off and tagged back to Valiant. Vachon charged in at Valiant but Valiant dodged him and caught him in a small package for a near fall. A few minutes later, Dundee and X were the legal men and were battling it out. Vachon in his team’s corner grabbed his dog collar and chain and started wrapping it around his fist. Dundee went for a punch on the masked man but X ducked and Dundee went into the corner. Vachon was ready for him and decked him with the chain! Dundee stumbled backwards and X, who may not have seen what Vachon did, executed a back suplex into a bridge. Paul Neighbors hadn’t seen the chain shot and counted Dundee’s shoulders to the mat. Valiant might not have gotten a full view of the act either as he was late in making a pin save. The fans were irate by this one and Vachon and X quickly returned to the locker room! ***
6) Colt Cabana scored a much-needed win, with his first victory over rival Adam Pearce in a USWA match! Pearce started off very aggressively in this match and it looked as if the former Mid-America champion would defeat “Boom Boom” again. He choked Cabana on the middle rope. While Frank Morrell was warning Pearce about his tactics, Mr. Hughes came up and delivered a powerful right hand to Cabana! This brought out “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson who watched Hughes and Jim Cornette, while rooting on his ally. “Scrap Iron,” who will wrestle Danielson next week in Cookeville, may have gotten distracted and thrown off his game, as he missed a fist drop, which allowed Cabana to take control. The host of The Art of Wrestling scored near falls after a flying hip attack and Cabanarama but finally got the pinfall after Colt .45 in about five minutes. The Memphis fans popped big time for Cabana’s win and he was joined in celebration by Danielson! **¾
7) The Uptown Boys defeated The Tolos Brothers via disqualification in about five minutes of a wild bout. The Toloses started off the aggressors, double teaming Tommy Rogers. As John applied the corkscrew, Rogers managed to tag Marty Jannetty out of desperation and Jannetty ran wild on John. The Uptown Boys quickly tagged in and out on John and hit the press slam and splash combination. Jannetty went for the pin but John kicked out. Getting frustrated, Chris got off the ring apron, grabbed a steel chair, and then returned to the ring apron. Jannetty went up to the top rope and as he did, Chris slid the chair into the ring to John. John grabbed it and kept it low as Jannetty came off the top with a flying body press. John blocked it by hitting him in the ribs with the chair in midair! Naturally, Jerry Calhoun called for the bell and disqualified the Toloses. After the bell, Rogers jumped into the ring and nailed John with a dropkick. Chris came in and attacked Rogers, as John recovered. Chris put Rogers’ arm in between the back of the chair and the seat, as John came off the ropes with a modified flying knee drop to the chair, crushing Rogers’ arm! Rogers writhed in pain, as Jannetty recovered, grabbed a chair of his own, and ran off the Toloses. The Flying Redheads and other officials came into the ring to check on Rogers, whose arm was in a lot of pain. **
8) Ray “The Crippler” Stevens returned from injury and scored a huge, albeit tainted, win over Mid-America Heavyweight champion Pepper Gomez in a non-title bout. Stevens attacked Gomez at the bell and punched him in the stomach, which had no effect on “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach.” Gomez took control of his rival and caught him in a sleeperhold about two minutes into the bout. Stevens got to the ropes and launched himself and his rival between the ropes and to the floor, sacrificing himself to break the hold. Both men were down as Paul Neighbors began to count them both. Jimmy Hart grabbed Gomez’ Mid-America title belt from the announcers’ table and went to hit the champion with it. Neighbors saw “The Mouth of The South” and warned him to stay away. Hart dropped the title belt but Stevens grabbed it and smashed the Mexican superstar with it. He then tossed Gomez back inside and hit the piledriver to score the pinfall in about five minutes. Stevens and Hart were very happy that their plot was successful! DUD
9) “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson continued his battles against Jim Cornette’s men with a big comeback victory over one-half of the World Tag Team champions “The Doctor of Desire” Tom Prichard. Prichard gained control in the opening minutes, thanks largely to interference from Jim Cornette and Mr. Hughes. As Danielson did for him in his earlier match on the card, Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana came out to ringside to counteract the manager and his bodyguard’s presence and root on his ally. Prichard hit a slingshot suplex for a near fall and later an elbow drop for another near fall. He blasted Danielson with the enzuigiri but the two-time former World champion kicked out at 2¾. Prichard sent Danielson into the buckles but Danielson had the wherewithal to run up the buckles and hit an amazing backflip. He then bounced off the side ropes and blasted Dr. Tom with a forearm smash. He went for the guillotine choke but Prichard scrambled for the ropes. Danielson stayed in control and got Prichard down on the mat and into the LeBell Lock. Prichard fought the hold for nearly a minute but ultimately had to tap out after 12 minutes of action. Danielson is now 2-0 in his series and will face “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce next week in Cookeville en route to “Exotic” Adrian Street and the Southern Heavyweight title on New Year’s Eve in Nashville! ***¾
10) The main event was for the USWA World Heavyweight championship. New champion “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert made his first defense of the title against the man he beat last month for the belt—“The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan. As was expected, this was a wild battle between these two rivals. A few minutes into the match, Sullivan went to his robe and pulled out his golden spike. He ended up using the spike on four different occasions throughout this match, either hiding it from Jerry Calhoun’s site or thanks to Sir Oliver Humperdink distracting Calhoun. Gilbert was busted open after the second attempt. Sullivan hit the double foot stomp but Eddie kicked out. Eddie surprised Sullivan with a small package out of nowhere for a near fall. He kept the momentum going and hit the Hot Shot. He covered “The Gamesmaster” but the challenger kicked out at 2¾. Sullivan fought back and hit another foot stomp but again the champion kicked out. Tommy Gilbert came down to ringside to cheer on his son. Sullivan saw him and went after him. Tommy didn’t retaliate so that Eddie wouldn’t get disqualified but he didn’t need to retaliate, as Eddie recovered and ambushed Sullivan. He hit a body slam on Sullivan and then went up the ropes. Humperdink got up on the apron but Tommy pulled him down. Calhoun got distracted by the scuffle and didn’t see Sullivan grab the spike again. Eddie came off the second rope with a double sledge but Sullivan sidestepped him and jabbed him again with the spike! He tossed the spike out of the ring and made a cover. Calhoun turned around and counted 1-2-3. Eddie kicked out but right after the three-count. Calhoun called for the bell and awarded the World title to Sullivan for the second time after 12 minutes! Fans were outraged by this! While Tommy checked on Eddie, Sullivan and Humperdink grabbed the belt and headed for the locker room! ***¼
