Stranger's Road Roger Spencer Community Center
Tyrone, GA March 5, 2022Commentary: Joe Dombrowski
Ring Announcer: Larry Legend
Referees: Jake Clemons, Kris Levin
All matches contested under Level 1 Rules (strict).
The crowd is hyped as the stream begins. Larry Legend waits in the ring for his cue.
Larry: “We are live! Pro Wrestling Independent Spirit has returned to the great state of Georgia, the heart of Southern independent wrestling! Is everyone here in the ACTION Zone ready? I ask you again - is everyone ready?! Our opening match is for one fall…”
Ironbeast vs. Jordan Oliver & Tony Deppen
Joe: “Greetings to our viewers on PWIS-TV and welcome to Stranger's Road. We start the night with tag team action.”
Deppen starts out against KTB. The two trade offense and reach a momentary standstill where KTB tags in Shane Mercer. “The Iron Demon” shows his power by manhandling Deppen, tossing him around the ring with a Beell, pop-up powerslam, and a military press slam. Tombstone by Mercer has Deppen hurt. Tony reaches for a tag but is nowhere close. Mercer executes another tombstone and covers for a two count. KTB tags in and Deppen tries fighting back but ends up in a torturous half crab. KTB releases the hold and Deppen starts crawling to his corner only to get crushed by a BeastSault. KTB hooks a leg and gets the three count. Oliver, who did not see action, looks to his demolished partner.
Winners: Ironbeast
Shane Mercer asks for the mic.
“Next month. Spirit of Cooperation Tag Team Tournament. We’re making it official right here - Ironbeast are the first entrants and we’re gonna be the PWIS tag team champions!”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” comes another voice over the PA. “The Masterpiece” Chris Masters comes out from the back. “Hold on, hold on.”
The fans boo but Masters pays them no attention. He deliberately walks around the ring, looking over the Ironbeast team.
“What do you want, Masters?” demands a perturbed Mercer.
“Relax. I’m not here to cause trouble. I just wanted to say that I saw you fill in for me last month and I liked what I saw. You lost… but you looked good. And look at you, man. You’re jacked. You're no Masterpiece… but who is?”
Mercer paces back and forth impatiently.
“So, about that tag team tournament. I’m looking for a partner. So why don’t you dump Capt. Caveman there and you and I show these guys how it’s done.”
Mercer gazes expressionlessly at Masters then looks at KTB who is hostilely leaning over the ropes in Masters direction.
“I need a partner that kicks ass,” replies Mercer. “And I ain’t seen you kick anyone’s ass in a long time. The answer is no.”
Masters scowls but his cocky smile quickly returns.
“Suit yourself. But I think you’ll end up regretting it”
Masters leaves amidst the heckling of the fans.
Madman Fulton vs. Wes Barkley
Barkley appears trepidatious as the two men circle. Wes finds his resolve and goes to the ropes but gets flattened by a flying shoulder tackle from his 6’8” opponent. Fulton drops Barkley on the top rope with a snake eyes and follows with a big boot. Wes keeps his composure and does what he can to defend himself from the onslaught. There is only so much Barkely can take, however, and Fulton decimates him with a BTB. Barkley needs help to the back as he is barely able to stand on his own.
Joe: “Dominant win by Madman Fulton. I see big things in the future for the big man.”
Winner: Madman Fulton
Kylie Rae vs. Miranda Gordy
Joe: “Kylie Rae is one of the hottest female wrestlers on the scene today. I’ve been looking forward to her PWIS debut.”
Out of the lockup, Miranda tries catching her opponent with a knee lift but Kylie evades and counters with a kick to the face that knocks Gordy to the mat. Pouncing on her downed foe, Kylie locks on a crossface. It looks like it might be over for Miranda but she rolls to escape the hold only to have Kylie roll right back into it. Gordy reaches the ropes for the break. Miranda dodges a running uppercut and lands a hard forearm of her own, knocking Kylie for a loop. Miranda goes for a vertical suplex but Kylie drops behind her and rebounds off the ropes with a flying forearm. Kylie hits a missile dropkick and a cannonball but Miranda recovers quickly. Kylie pushes the pace but Miranda catches her with a lariat and takes the advantage. The action continues to go back and forth until Kylie catches Miranda with a cradle off the ropes for the surprise pin.
Winner: Kylie Rae
Joe: “I was originally going to be joined on commentary at this time by “Maserati” Wes Barkley but he’s still recovering from his match with Madman Fulton. Instead, I’m joined by the “Young Legend” Jordan Oliver. Seeing as how you weren’t able to do much earlier this evening, I figured we could give you some time here on commentary. Welcome Jordan.”
Jordan: “Thanks, Joe. Glad to be here.”
Nick Gage vs. Kevin Ku
Jordan: “I mean, I know Kevin Ku is representing Violence Is Forever but has he ever been in the ring with Nick Gage? Gage IS violence, you know what I mean?”
Joe: “I believe they have met in the ring before but regardless, nothing can prepare you for the likes of Nick Gage.”
Gage throws up his MDK gang sign but the ACTION Zone fans aren't responsive as they are partial to local favorite Ku. Gage spits at Kevin and moves in throwing forearm smashes. Ku blocks the strikes and throws Gage with an arm capture Olympic Slam. Ku curb stomps Gage and the crowd is cheering wildly. Ku for the pin. Gage kicks out at two. Ku pressures Gage with more slams and hits his Ku-Die On Stage back breaker. Fans sense an upset but Gage gets his shoulder up at two. Ku does not relent as he repeatedly slams Gage to the mat and hammers him in the corner. Gage is rocked and rolls out of the ring to gather himself.
Jordan: “Don’t do it, Kevin…”
Ku follows Nick out to the floor.
Jordan: “Ahhh, maaan…”
A brawl takes place around the ring where Gage gets the upper hand. Nick lifts the apron and produces his pizza cutter and proceeds to grind it into Ku’s head.
Jordan: “Awww sh*t!! What’d I say?”
The referee gets Gage to relinquish his weapon. Gage shoves Ku back into the ring and delivers a vicious Choke Breaker. Cover and 1-2-3. Gage hops to his feet and starts talking sh*t to the crowd. Nick is escorted to the back before the fans could get too riled up.
Jordan: “Ah, what’d I say, Joe? Ku made a big mistake there. He had it under control but he stepped into Gage’s territory and paid the price. Why’d ya do it, Kevin?”
Joe: “Indeed. It would seem that opening the door for Nick Gage to fight on his terms is a fool's errand.”
Winner: Nick Gage
Lee Moriarty comes to the ring for the next match. The crowd pops big when AC Mack makes his entrance. Larry makes the introductions and Mack requests the microphone.
“Lee Moriarty, I know you been doing good things and are currently undefeated in PWIS. BUT… I am the Mack of All Trades and we are standing in the center of MY ring!!”
The crowd starts a chant of “This is Mack’s house!! This is Mack’s house!!”
AC Mack vs. Lee Moriarty
Joe: “AC Mack is one of the most decorated wrestlers in the South today.”
Jordan: “Yeah, he’s a guy who should be getting a lot more attention. But I can tell you from experience, you can’t fall asleep on Lee Moriarty either.”
Mack starts strong, quickly hitting Moriarty with his Soul Plane lariat and the 927, a snap flatliner. Moriarty is down and Mack keeps on with a Top Shelf meteora. Mack signals for his finisher and plants Lee with the Mack 10. The fans are on their feet but Moriarty lifts his shoulder at the last moment. Mack is dumbfounded and carries on but Moriarty cuts him off with a jumping knee and levels him coming off the ropes with a corkscrew European uppercut. Moriarty goes to the top rope but Mack is ready for him and connects with a jumping heel kick as Lee comes off the top. Moriarty quickly recovers and the pair switch back and forth on offense. Finally, Moriarty catches Mack with Joint Custody. Mack escapes and Lee seeks to keep the momentum with a tornado DDT. He tries for a second one but Mack rolls him up for a near fall. Kick out. The pair throw everything at each other. Mack goes to the top but it’s his turn to be unawares as Moriarty traps him in Joint Custody again. Too close to the ropes. Both men climb to the top. A struggle ensues and they both topple, catching the ref on the way down. Moriarty capitalizes with a Taigadriver X but there’s no ref to make the count. Mack turns the tide and hits a spinning DDT. Makes the cover, the ref is still down. Moriarty bounces back with a flurry of offense. Taigadriver X. The ref is there for the count. 1-2-kick out! Tornado DDT, Taigadriver X, three count. Despite their hometown hero coming up short the crowd is on its feet cheering with a MOTY chant. The two competitors embrace afterward, showing a lot of respect.
Jordan: “Daaamn, Joe! That match was the bomb!”
Joe: “Truly amazing. I think we’ll be seeing AC Mack in PWIS again. And Lee Moriarty remains undefeated at 3-0.”
Winner: Lee Moriarty
The participants for the main event make their way to the ring. The controversial Chris Masters once again is the target of the fans ire. Meanwhile, Calvin Tankman comes out and takes time to get the fans pumped up. Larry Legend is ready for the introductions.
“It’s about to go down!”
After the participants are announced, Larry has an added statement.
“And this match will be contested under Level 2 - relaxed - rules!”
Masters is caught off guard.
“What? No!”
He looks out over the crowd and points, saying something not able to be heard over the noise.
Jordan: “I think he’s pointing at you, Joe.”
Joe: “I can’t imagine why…”
Calvin Tankman vs. Chris Masters
Masters is on edge and looks to buy time by offering Calvin to take the Masterlock Challenge. Calvin smiles and looks to the crowd, nodding as they shout encouragement. After some rigmarole, the Challenge begins. Masters has a good grip but Tankman fights it and starts to strain Masters’ hold. Panic in his eyes, Chris adjusts his grip and grabs a handful of Calvin’s braids for added leverage. Tankman is suffering and by the time the ref intervenes the damage may have been done. The bell rings and the match proper gets underway. Masters uses his power to hoist the massive Tankman and slam him a couple of times. Masters methodically pounds on his opponent. Tankman reverses a whip into the corner and charges but Chris ducks and cradles him, puts his feet up on the ropes and steals the pin. Calvin is bewildered and looks to ref who confirms the decision. The crowd starts chanting ‘bullsh*t'. As Chris leaves the ring area he shouts “Nice try, Dombrowski!”
Winner: Chris Masters
Jordan: “So, uh, that was awkward.”
Joe: “Yes, it was. It appears Chris Masters is going to be THAT guy. Well, I promise you, fans, neither I nor PWIS are going to play those kinds of games. Masters and PWIS will need to come to an accord before this gets out of hand. I know everyone here wants to behave in a professional manner and no one wants this kind of thing to ruin that. Anyway, that’s all for now. For Jordan Oliver, this is Joe Dombrowski. Goodnight.”

Fun card from top to bottom... Really enjoyed the way each match delivered something different... From Ironbeast's opening squash victory... To the action packed showdown between Mack and Moriarty... Rae and Gordy duking it out in a fast paced seesaw battle... Followed by the violent comeback by Nick F'n Gage... And let's not forget the antics of the Masterpiece... Because every wrestling promotion needs a number one villain... HA! Exceptional!

AC Mack vs. Lee Moriarty was awesome and I also really enjoyed Chris Masters heeling it up with Ironbeast. Just a fun show all around.

It went pretty much how I wanted it to with the exception being the tag match could have been a little more competitive. I had Chris Masters earmarked as my top heel for the start of this fed and have enjoyed it more than I had anticipated. Thanks for following along.

Like my earlier PWIS shows, I'm trying to capture the freshness and imperfect nature of indy shows that make them fun to watch. I'm going for the intimate feel of seeing a band in a little club rather than the impersonal spectacle of a sold out arena.
