I found the Rhino artwork to be pretty cartoonish too. This is the reason that I could see reason to have separate BW & color releases. The Chikara and ROH tend to go a little more cartoony especially with Chikara. Chikara definitely makes sense for the cartoony look but I have always loved the more realistic approach to the B&W LOW art. Just makes me want to see Ares, for example, in the classic B&W LOW look.
I love the comparison to the Hulk for this artwork. Definitely has that feel. I don't hate it but I don't love it either. Other than the Rhino and this one I have been very pleased with the look of the ROH cards thus far. I'm digging the unique looks to the cards.

Besides this one, I'm not a big fan of the Strong art either, and I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority there. I don't hate either one but this one (though drawn incredible, no pun intended) is way too cartoony IMO. The Strong art is actually phemonimal as well, it's just the reference piece that was used that I don't particularly care for. I prefer his LOTF art, which I thought was really good and is one of my favorites.
But again, not complaining, just my observations. Werner does a helluva job and I'm really looking forward to the set!

Art is art. It's always subjective. People aren't going to like the same things all the time so nothing wrong with saying you don't care for a particular piece of work.

I feel like I started a wave of negativity.  I like the art. It is a bit less realistic than some of them have been. It is a jillion time better than I could have done. I would a jillion x a jillion times rather have Elgin in the game with this art than not have him. I am 100 percent buying the ROH set in November, and the next CHIKARA six-pack, and the DGUSA set (when do teasers start?), and the next NWAH set and CZW set (Osk promised...sort of). I may prefer the "zapped" shots like Swarm mentioned above, but that doesn't mean I don't "like" this one. Just that it stood out as having a small head. Actually, it's not even that so much as the placement on the neck. He looks like that comic book character, StrongGuy or something. And Battering Ram. |

The 'cartoonish' look fits the Chikara wrestlers and many of the RIH wrestlers. I just hope when LOW ends up in color, the cards don't look like that.
