CHP #13: Torneo Cibernetico
12.08.2112 from Logan Square Auditorium, Chicago, IL
Chuck Taylor, Icarus, Johnny Gargano, and Gran Akuma vs. Ares, Pinkie Sanchez, Tursas, and Jakob Hammermeier
Icarus defeated Tursas with a WINGS OF ICARUS at 20:28
Match Rating: 4.00
Match Notes: What a way to open Torneo Cibernetico!
The BDK/FIST feud has been running since Icarus first challenged Castagnoli for the Grand Championship, but even after an unsuccessful attempt, the factions have been embroiled in conflict.
It's even gone a long way to getting the fans behind FIST!
We got a great Atomicos bout with all four men getting action and going back and forth with the kind of hi quality match you could expect from these 8 competitors.
We started off with a great comedic exchange that saw Gargano tag Taylor for the double team. Taylor followed with an invisible grenade, but Tursas threw it back at him! Taylor was down, but not out as Tursas dragged him to his feet, Taylor chopped Tursas twice.
Tursas felt no pain and a frightened Taylor was met with a Giant Lariat for a nearfall!
Luckily the match was far from over and the action intensified from there.
Taylor took quite a bit of punishment at the hands of Ares and Pinkie Sanchez in particular. Icarus would also get worked over quite a bit, but Akuma came in on a hot tag and cleaned house before forcing Sanchez out of the ring and then Tursas and Gargano came in and he and Taylor basically took out Ares and then Akuma was back taking the fight to Tursas!
The crowd was hot as Icarus was tagged in and he took the fight to the big man!
After failing to get the win with the first WINGS OF ICARUS, he would apply it again shortly and this time his partner couldn't make the save as Icarus makes the big man tap!
Even after his defeat at the hands of Castagnoli, Icarus continues to look strong!
Eddie Kingston vs. Larry Sweeney
Larry Sweeney defeated Eddie Kingston with a 12 LARGE ELBOW DROP at 23:04
Match Rating: 4.25
Match Notes: Wow. This match was fantastic. Plain and simple.
They jockeyed for position early, but Kingston came out on top and began to put the boots to Sweeney.
He pummeled Mr Sweet & Sour, but seemed to favor taking his aggression out rather than make a cover.
The action would eventually swing the other way and tho it see sawed a bit here and there, Sweeney was impressive as he threw everthing (including a chair) at Kingston.
After two 12 LARGE ELBOW DROPs, Sweeney saw no end in sight, so he took the easy way out by using a chair out of the ring.
Sweeney hit another 12 LARGE a bit later and got a pinfall victory over Eddie Kingston!
Kingston was hot after the match and Sweeney didn't take too much time celebrate before getting out of Kingston's way.
All Night Express vs. The Osirian Portal
Ophidian defeated Kenny King with a DEATH GRIP at 13:51
Match Rating: 3.75
Match Notes: Fantastic tag action here between two teams that are only a point away from challenging for the Campeonatos de Parejas.
Larry Sweeney was not at ringside for this one.
It was a fantastic match with a great flow and lots of hot back and forth action with great tag action on both sides.
The Portal held down most of the first half of the match, but King and Titus kept it interesting with flourishes here and there. The second half was a different story as it was too close to call.
Rhett Titus seemed one step from putting Ophidian away, but a misstep was all Ophidian needed and after a reverse rolling prawn hold he applied the DEATH GRIP to get the victory!
The Osirian Portal has 3 points!

Claudio Castagnoli vs. Chris Hero
for the Grand Champion of CHIKARA
Chris Hero defeated Claudio Castagnoli with a Hero Sandwich at 19:05
Claudio Castagnoli defeated Chris Hero with a giant swing at 8:05
Claudio Castagnoli defeated Chris Hero with a RICOLA BOMB at 23:49
Match Rating: 4.75
Match Notes: Castagnoli is indeed putting the title on the line against Chris Hero!
Not too long ago they were tag team partners, but after floundering in the Campeonatos de Parejas tournament, and Castagnoli rocketing to the top, Hero found himself on the outs and Claudio was piecing back together the BDK!
Hero failed to capitalize on a chance to win the EVOLVE title in a tournament and returned feeling spurned and seeking to prove he is as good as Claudio.
Larry Sweeney has taken on Chris Hero in his Sweet & Sour, Inc stable. Will Sweeney see his faction taking home the Grand Championship!
This was a special match. The first fall was back and forth and quick paced. Castagnoli got away with a chairshot outside and punished Hero for a while before hitting him with a RICOLA BOMB, but Hero kicked out!
After a couple of nearfalls and a brutal Inverted CHIKARA Special, Claudio his a giant swing for the first fall!
Hero was fired up with an adrenaline rush in the second fall and immediately peppered Castagnoli with strike and a HERO'S WELCOME! Claudio kicked out!
Hero scored with a couple more nearfalls, but the action would spill outside! Both wrestlers were warned by the official as it started to get out of hand!
They brought it back in and Claudio wowed the crowd and rocked Hero by hitting not one, not two, not three, but four diving European Uppercuts in a row! One from each turnbuckle! Amazing!
Claudio was handling him, but Hero came out of the turnbuckle with a roaring elbow and both men are down!
Hero Sandwich! 1, 2, 3!
Hero gets the second fall!
They battled back and forth and Hero came off the ropes with a huge lariat! Claudio was out of it...
Hero charges... Swiss Death!!!!!
Hero is out! RICOLA BOMB!
1, 2, 3!
What a match! What a finish!
The CHIKARA Grand Champion stands tall.
CASTAGNOLI: Hero! You could never be a Grand Champion! You could never be BDK! And you are definitely NOT a King of Wrestling!
I, on the other hand, stand before you as the best wrestler and champion in wrestling today. I've heard plenty about all the other titles in all the other territories. I hear there's and EVOLVE Champion, the Tri States North American champion, there's even going to be a Ring of Honor champion... but there is only one Grand Champion! And I am the one!
Did Claudio just throw out an open challenge to other champions?

Green Ant defeated Jigsaw with a CLOVERLEAF at 16:57
Jigsaw defeated Fire Ant with a JIG 'N' TONIC at 25:38
Jigsaw defeated Green Ant with a JIG 'N' TONIC at 29:27
Match Rating: 4.25
Match Notes: It was a hotly contested bout from the get go and it exemplified the very best of tag team action in the CHIKARA style.
They kept it in the ring for the most part and there were lots of tags and exciting double team maneuvers.
It went back and forth and all four men saw time on the giving and receiving end of some intense punishment.
It was really a dream match in a lot of ways as Fire Ant and Quackenbush matched up well and Jigsaw and Green Ant were also along similar lines.
Green Ant began stretching Jigsaw and he and Fire Ant worked the double team. After a CHIKARA Special, Green Ant locked in the CLOVERLEAF to secure the first fall!
The action was fast and furious in the second fall with lots of big moves and action that had the fans on their feet!
It looked like Green Ant was about to put Quack away with the CLOVERLEAF to secure the title defense, but the founder fought back and capitalized on a mistake from Fire Ant to hit the QUACKENDRIVER and score a nearfall!
Jigsaw was tagged in... JIG 'N' TONIC! 1, 2, 3! We're tied at one fall a piece!
The action in the home stretch showed four weary competitors who'd already given it their all. Jigsaw and Quackenbush isolated Green Ant and were able to work him over.
Jigsaw was tagged in... Double team move! Cover!
Nearfall!
Jigsaw can't believe it! JIG 'N' TONIC on Green Ant! Will it be enough?
1, 2, 3! We've got new Campeonatos de Parejas!
Quackensaw have taken the titles from the Colony!
Here come the All Night Express! They're attacking the new champs!
But here comes the number 1 contenders! Osirian Portal and Soldier Ant are out!
The Portal send ANX packing and helps the new champs to the back.
As the Colony tries to regroup in the ring, the lights go out and when they come up... It's the Swarm!
assailANt, deviANT, and combatANT! They beatdown the Colony until officials and tecnicos from the back make the save! We've got pandemonium as we head into the main event!
Quackensaw won the Campeonatos de Parejas

Kodama defeated Eddie Edwards with a DQ at 1:26:10
Tyler Black defeated Kobald with a PHOENIX SPLASH at 1:31:21
Match Rating: 4.00
Match Notes: This was a wild Toreno Cibernetico match that ultimately seemed to resolve a few threads for the future while providing both sides with a jumping off point.
To start off with, Ultramantis Black pulled an interesting rabbit out of the hat with the appearance of his final 3 partners, The American Wolves, Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards, along with none other than Austin Aries, who got a big chant when he appeared.
Jimmy Jacobs laughed in their faces as we started the match off hot with Ultramantis and Jacobs taking the lead off position to do battle in the squared circle!
We had nearly 20 minutes of great multi-man action before Obariyon surprised Davey Richards with a roll up to score a quick pinfall and the first elimination!
The action continued fast a furious with multiple changes before Ultramantis came in and dismantled Necro Butcher to score an elimination over one of his enemies!
The action came back to Jacobs and Mantis and they went back and forth! At one point, Jacobs used the spike and Mantis' mask was torn on one side!
Mantis rallied back tho and scored big with a double knee backbreaker from no where!
1, 2, 3! Mantis eliminates his foe, Jimmy Jacobs and the crowd is hot!
Aries and Brodie Lee seemed to pair up more than few time and, tho Lee had been impressive it wasn't enough to derail the Greatest Man That Ever Lived as he put away the big man after a picture perfect moonsault!
Then it turned into the Batiri show for a while as Kodama turned in a great performance only to be outshined by his partner Obariyon.
Obariyon was definitely one of the hi lights of the bout as he dealt out a great deal of punishment to numerous opponents.
He put Crossbones away with a powerful wrist clutch exploder!
The next elimination came by way of Delirious when he took out Hydra with a PRAYING MANTIS BOMB, openly taunting Ultramantis Black.
Tyler Black, another of the show stealers then took out Austin Aries, much to the crowd's dismay. Both men were exhausted and a PHOENIX SPLASH that hit with ring shaking impact eliminated Aries.
Ultramantis, Hallowicked, and Eddie Edwards fought valiantly, but Kodama was able to take advantage of a beaten down Ultramantis Black to put him away with a spinning suplex!
Both captains have been eliminated and shortly after Obariyon took out Frightmare with a FLYING DDT.
Ultramantis' team is down to two participants.
The crowd was firmly behind Hallowicked and "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards. Edwards would live up to his name and fought tooth and nail.
Hallowicked eliminated former partner, Delirious, with GO 2 SLEEPY HOLLOW after a hot exchange.
Eddie Edwards and Obariyon put on a fantastic display at the late stages of the match and the crowd was on their feet!
Edwards capitalized on a misstep and knocked Obariyon silly with a lariat to get a pin and eliminate one of the stars of the bout.
Kodama then came in and cleaned house as he and Hallowicked fought back and forth, but in the end a FLYING BLOCKBUSTER was too much and Hallowicked was eliminated!
Eddie Edwards is the sole survivor for his team. Can he outlast Kobald, Kodama, and Tyler Black?
The answer to that question will be marred in a bit of controversy as Edwards and Kodama battled outside the ring. The ref warned Edwards about taking too many liberties and when he smashed Kodama onto an open chair the ref DQ'd Die Hard!
The fans were hot as we were left with three members on Jacobs' Age of the Fall team. Two Batiri and one Tyler Black...
Black took on both men and tho it looked as tho he might not be able to overcome them, he was able to handle Kodama and then take out Kobald in spectacular fashion after a PHOENIX SPLASH!
Tyler Black is your Torneo Cibernetico winner!
What an incredible and exhausting match. There were so many nearfalls and all 16 of these competitors left nothing in the locker room.
Tyler Black was definitely one of the stars of this match and deserved the win, but there's no denying how well Obariyon and Eddie Edwards performed as well.
Ultramantis and Jimmy Jacobs seemed to clash early and take their toll on one another. Even tho, Mantis scored the pin over Jacobs, Jacobs' team comes out on top... Will this settle the feud? What comes next?
