I have been wanting to go to one of these shows by Wrestling Cares Association and it looks like I will get my chance in August because they have a show in downtown LA the night before Summerslam (but there probably won't be any ROH wrestlers on that show since ROH has a show in New York that night.)
For those who may not know, the Race for the Ring is a year round tournament involving many wrestlers from around the country (including many who do not often appear on the West Coast.) Each match is an iron man match with the wrestler getting the most falls advancing. In the event of no falls happening before the time limit expires and I think in the event of a tie too?,) there is a brief overtime period but if that expires without a winner then both wrestlers are eliminated (this happened with Davey Richards and Kyle O'Reilly at the previous WCA show.)
Race For The Ring Wrestling Tournament
Wrestling Cares Association’s premiere event is the Race For The Ring Wrestling Tournament. The Race For The Ring is the ONLY year-long 1-on-1 tournament of its kind found anywhere in professional wrestling.
Bringing together the best of pro wrestling’s top independent athletes from across North America, the Race For The Ring is guaranteed to be the can’t miss event that gives independent wrestling fans the opportunity to see live matchups they have never seen before held exclusively in L.A. Spotlighting only the most athletic performers, the Race For The Ring focuses on hard-hitting in-ring action that is unique to the WCA brand of wrestling.
WCA will bring together the biggest and best wrestling talent from the premiere independent companies to engage in its’ annual tournament. The Race For The Ring proudly boasts the participation of talent from a network of the greatest and most distinguished independent wrestling companies today.
Ring of Honor (ROH), Dragon Gate USA (DGUSA), EVOLVE, Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), All Pro Wrestling (APW), Empire Wrestling Federation (EWF) and other first-class independent companies will each be represented by their finest respective talent in the Race For The Ring.
Every event in the Race For The Ring Tournament raises money for a different charity. Whoever is declared the winner of the Race For The Ring tournament will receive an additional donation to be made to the charity of his choice in the winner’s name.
