Over the weekend I saw Smoke looking at old booklets looking to restart his fed. I notice that a lot of other promoters over the boards have, over time, done so as well. What is the reason for this?
Perhaps you (especially in my case) added a lot of bootlegs and are now looking to create a more “Formalized” past to a fed? Is it that you didn’t have as much fun playing certain years as others did? Is it that you’re caught up with the “Official” storyline and want to tide over some time before the next set release? Perhaps inaccurate/lost records? A fresh start?
… Or is it something else? Please enlighten me.

The reason that I am considering a restart of sorts is because I took time away from the game (a long time) and upon returning felt no connection to the storylines I was developing. I keep meticulous notes so I know exactly where I was going with them; I am just considering things from a fresh perspective. As it stands I will most likely begin again in early 2128 (where I left off) and continue forward with a fresh story that has some meaning to me. I have never followed the official storyline; and never will. I read each release with interest but feel that the characters in my fed are not the ones in Tom's fed. I use his ideas to flavor my own and create my own thread of adventure. I use bootlegs when I feel like it and my roster is devoid of many that inhabit Tom's fed. I focus on meaningful stories and try to give everyone their moment in the spotlight. Not sure that more than a couple people care about any of that; but it works for me. Good luck in your search for answers.

Some possible explanations:
Depends on where you are in your life and what kind of product you can produce with a set, plus what your influences are in the wrestling product you are watching at the time.
If you started playing the game when you were 12, and have since gotten a high school or further education, etc. I'm sure there is a part of you that thinks gee I could do a much better job of booking things a second time around.
Finally, if people can play LOW and reconstitute territorial Feds and/or WWF/ECW, nothing wrong with reliving the golden age of the GWF.

After I came back (about 12 years ago...has it really been that long??) I was running a fed, then did a restart because I wanted to add the Early Classics era. I tried doing both, but the stat tracker wasn't able to handle the dual storylines like I wanted, so I just started over, expanded each year and now I'm up to 2092 slowly catching up again.

I had restarted several times in the past because of various reasons. The most recent restart has been going strong (I think I am about to hit the 870th card..started somewhere around Civil War era or so) because I dropped the calender year and decided to play out the cards whenever I felt like it. I like this way a lot better and is easier to keep things going i.e. introduce a set whenever I feel like or move a PaPer View up or postpone all together.
With three of my kids playing through the Wargames era, I often wanted to reboot but decide just to play through those years with them...nostalgia I think...but then I think that I would lose all the history that I have worked hard to establish. I currently like my fed (whether anyone reads it or not) and that is what is important I guess.
I can see the nostalgia creep and see the advantages of restarting but I don't think I will ever do that again unless something drastic happens.

I first played back in the late 80's with a few friends but at the time was more interested in the superstar pro wrestling game because it had real wrestlers. I graduated high school and then went on to the military and college and except for a brief period when some friends and I in the army played weekly COTG tournaments on Sunday mornings when everyone else went to church or slept in I really didn't play either game. I got to itch to play the superstar pro wrestling game again around 2003 or 2004 ordered a copy from E Bay and got a different game with a similar name by a guy named John Hardwood. I played the game a few times and thought it really sucked. I remembered Champions Of The Galaxy found out it was still around and there was a Legends game out. I started playing that and then tried new beginnings. I could never keep either one going very long and went back to the original version which I've been playing for several years straight now and I'm currently in 2093. The point I'm trying to make here is people reboot because the older game editions are the best

I remember when I started playing nearly 20 years ago. I still have a notebook with those results. Lord Nexus actually won the title tourney on the first card. In fact, Nexus, Executioner, and Pulsar were my first three champs before Thantos took the belt. It was unique to say the least. Within two years, I did a restart and the finals were, more fittingly, Star Warrior and Thantos with Thantos getting the win.
I type that because I think it's a good example of why folks restart. Sure that first time around was my own thing, but it didn't feel right. I think I wanted something a little more traditional. I think I only got up to 2090 that second time around, but it was a hell of a lot of fun.
Eventually, I skipped ahead so I could be caught up and ran a fun 2109-2113 fed before again stopping. I've played on and off trying to be "caught up", but eventually knew I'd have to play at my own pace and so, to that effect, I decided to do a total restart about a year and a half ago all the way to 2074. I've been loving the Classics fed I've got going and look forward to getting to 2087. I've toyed with the idea of doing a "caught up" fed as well, but I just like the idea of being able to create my own GWF history. Time will tell.
Between old notebooks and online, I do have detailed records of the years I have run. Maybe I'll try and dovetail those with my new restart. Probably not, though. I doubt I'll ever do another restart after this one, tho. Something about this one feels like the my own true history of the GWF. I may keep my CPC and ACE feds the way they are, however.
I also agree with a lot of the things Chewey said (fitting, considering we've known each other by way of the game for nearly 15 years). As I got older & learned more about pro-wrestling & story-telling, I realized I had more to say and wanted to "create" something new with my GWF. That's not discounting the fun I had before, but I guess that's one of the unique opportunities the game provides. We always have the chance to go back. Creating your own fed's history is one of the most rewarding aspects of the game and getting the chance to re-do it can be just as rewarding.

I restarted several years ago. I had stopped playing for a long time and, to be honest, the New Beginnings guys just didn't really hold my interest.
So, I went back to 2087 and have just completed the year 2092.

I've restarted several times over the years for many reasons and with my reboot of FMX, the reason this time is to use everything I have in one set Universe...

Crimson, I'm curious to hear how you run your fed, how it's set up, etc, because I have thought about doing something similar but wasnt sure how to go about it.
