I just saw this at the book store and thought it looked pretty cool, but didn't pick it up since it was about 25 bucks and I am cheap. I thought fellow promoters would be interested. Has anyone actually read it? www.gorgeousgeorgebook.com

Someone gave me the book (I wouldn't have spent $25 on my own to get it), and I'm about 35 pages into it (I'm reading some other stuff, so I only get to it here and there ...)
It's interesting ... early on, the book touts how Gorgeous George influenced people like Ali, James Brown and Bob Dylan. Where I'm at in it currently, he's a young man in the Houston area and is wrestling in the carnivals and really beginning to like the showmanship elements of pro wrestling ...
I'll try to post some more info on it as I get closer to finishing it ...

I'm about 20 pages from finishing the book.
It's been an enjoyable read. Capouya does a good job of framing Gorgeous George within his time period, explaining why he was so influential and who he influenced (Ali, Dylan, James Brown) ...
GG has the same ending, though, that seems to afflict a lot of stars -- problems with money and alcohol. Toward the end, the book discusses how he has a hair vs. mask match with The Destroyer, mainly because he needed the $$, despite the fact he had to agree to have his head shaved.
