I have decided to stop my OWNLive fed. As much I would like to run a multiple territory federation I found it difficult to use multiple wrestlers I was not familiar with at one time. The learning curve was just too much and I did not feel I was really enjoying the competitor’s cards to their full potential. So I have decided to focus on one of the territories in my OWNLive fed. I have made a fresh draw to determine the opening 24 competitors and will start back in 2005 for Pure Wrestling Association's first event and work my way forward. Hope you excuse the multiple restarts and enjoy the action.
Pure Wrestling Association “Debut” – Goderich, Ontario, July 22, 2005
The show opens with a solid in ring promo from Adam Pearce who declares himself the uncrowned Pure Wrestling Champion telling the fans that he is an international superstar who has held titles around the globe and now has had to come to this dump of a town to collect his latest title. Pearce tells the fans that management has already recognized his greatness but putting him in the tonight’s main event match for the Pure Wrestling Title. I that was left was to decide who he would be beating tonight. This brings out AJ Styles who tells the fans that he has also travelled the world and puts over Goderich and the fans as well to a solid ovation. This then brings out El Generico and with all three men in the ring we get a “this is awesome!” chant from ringside. Pearce decides to leave the ring to huge heat and tells Styles and Generico to figure out who will be the one to get beat in the main event.
Winner to face Adam Pearce for the Pure Wrestling Championship – AJ Styles v. El Generico
Handshake at the bell. Generico is quick out of the gate and nearly ends it with a SPIKE BRAINBUSTER that gets only two. Style battles back and both men exchange counters and high impact moves. Styles gets the best of a brawl on the floor and then plants his opponent with a STYLES CLASH for a near fall. We get plenty of brawling at ringside as the two battle into the crowd and back into the ring. Styles seems to hold the upper hand but cannot put Generico away. The action goes back to the floor again. Suddenly Adam Pearce comes back out and cracks Styles across the back with a chair shot. The referee has no choice but to stop the action and call for a disqualification. Your winner is AJ Styles. Generico is livid and chases off Pearce who has essentially handpicked his opponent for the main event. ***
Mia Yim v. Dazee Haze
This one was short but intense. Haze has the fans behind her and built on that energy for a near fall after a MIND TRIP. The action went to the floor and Yim gained the upper hand. Back inside, Yim connected with a SPINNIING SEOUL KICK for a two and then hit Haze with a second SPINNING SEOUL KICK to get the three count. *
Fire Ant v. Ethan Page w/Seleziya Sparx
Despite being from Ontario Page does not have too many fans at ringside especially against the popular Fire Ant. Page spends some time jarring with the fans and then is able to overpower Ant. Page controls with a sick looking superkick and pair of tilt-a-whirl backbreakers. A reverse brainbuster plants Ant in the middle of the ring and Page hooks the leg. 1, 2, 3/kick out. The bell sounds and Page has the win. Ant protests the count saying he kicked out but despite the fans support, the decision stands. dud
Pure Violence Title Match – Sami Callihan v. BJ Whitmer v. Rhino v. Charlie Haas v. BLK Jeez
All five men start to brawl at the bell and the fans are braced for impact. Whitmer, Rhino and Haas take their three way battle to the floor and into the fans leaving Callihan and Jeez in the ring. Callihan gets the upper hand with back to back Forearms to Remember and then traps Jeez in a STRETCH MUFFLER. The brawlers on the floor don’t see the hold being applied and Jeez submits before Haas is able to make it back to the ring to break up the hold. Sami Callihan plays it smart and is the first Pure Violence Champion! *
Tim Donst v. Eddie Edwards
Edwards gets the majority of the crowd support and starts the match strong. A diving double knees is enough for a two count and Edwards wastes no time in putting away Donst with the DIE HARD. The fans really wanted more out of this contest. dud
Michael Elgin v. Arik Royal
Elgin gets a monster ovation was he is introduced. Royal earns some of the crowd support with a handshake and we get underway. This one was epic. We get all of Elgin signature power spots in the opening half of the match including stalling vertical suplexes and Deadlift Powerbombs. Elgin hits back to back SPINNING SIT-OUT POWERBOMBS but Royal kicks out both times bring the fans to their feet. Royal begins a lengthy comeback at ringside getting the best of brawl on floor. A cloverleaf nearly ends it. Royal attacks Elgin with a chair at ringside and the fans lose it. The referee allows the match to continue and Royal nearly gets the three count with a KURT COBAIN SICK KICK. Elgin also makes use a chair to even the momentum of the match. Both men trade counters and moves. Royal picks up a near fall with an atomic drop/backbreaker combo and Elgin unleashes a pair of charging lariats that rocks the fans. To The Last Drop has a significant impact and gives Royal the advantage again and he connects with a second KURT COBAIN SICK KICK for the huge come from behind win. *****
The After Party (Rhett Titus & Johnny Goodtime) v. The Young Bucks (Nick Jackson & Matt Jackson)
Love them or hate them, the Bucks gets a reaction everywhere they compete and tonight was no different. The fans ate up the action early on when Titus and Goodtime took the fight to the Jackson brothers. Titus nearly gets the winning fall after Sex Factor on Nick Jackson before the Bucks are able to get a defensive tag in and make a comeback. Matt Jackson hits a MOONSAULT on Titus for a near fall. The action rolls to the floor. Goodtime charges Matt Jackson but Jackson ducks a clothesline and Nick is ready with a chair shot that lays out Goodtime with a superkick. The Bucks then execute a double team slam putting Goodtime through a table! The referee calls for the bell and awards the bout to the After Party by disqualification but it does not look like Goodtime will be celebrating tonight. ***
Pure Wrestling Title Match – Adam Pearce v. AJ Styles
The crowd was super-hot for Styles and give Pearce the gears who jars right back at ringside. Pearce gets the early upper hand until Styles counters a deathjump attempt with a superplex that rocks the fans. Styles follows immediately with a STYLES CLASH but Pearce somehow gets the shoulder up at the last possible second. Pearce gets nailed with a Fosbury Flop but manages to regain control of the action after a brawl on the floor. Back in the ring Pearce nails Styles with a JUMPING PILEDRIVER but much to the fans delight Styles kick out of the cover. Pearce is stunned but quickly regains his focus and plants Styles with a second JUMPING PILEDRIVER. Adam Pearce is the first Pure Wrestling Champion. ***
It can be argued that the action cooled off after a hot opener but the final three matches really brought it with Michael Elgin v. Arik Royal being the match of the night. Adam Pearce is the first Pure Wrestling Champion and Sami Callihan wears the Pure Violence Championship. What is next for these new title holders? We will find out when the PWA travels to Cambridge Ontario for another night of action.
