Question for the wrestling fans here... Why do you suppose that Vince Russo is viewed in such a negative light while the WWF Attitude Era is viewed so positively? I don't especially enjoy Vince Russo's booking but I also never really cared for the Attitude Era. Is what Russo did in WCW and TNA THAT much worse than the stories he was telling in WWF at that time? I don't think it was. I think it's more a matter of we had seen that before. The shocking nature of the attitude era had long since passed which left WCW and TNA feeling like they were trying to emulate a popular era of wrestling rather than creating something new.
Am I crazy or does this make sense to anyone else?

Am I crazy or does this make sense to anyone else? I think Russo had a filter in WWE (Vince McMahon). Russo had no such filter in WCW or TNA, and it showed on television and in the booking. Post WWE-He never really had a clear vision, it was just crash-TV which is entertaining at first, but grows old very quick. And the logic of his crash-TV was frequently lacking. I also think it has become quite fashionable for the trendy ICW crowd to bash Russo (DISCLAIMER--I will not give my comments on the IWC, the vast majority of whom are largely illiterate and lack any frame of refrence of where wrestling is at today).

Conversely, could it be argued that, post-WWE, he had too many fingers in the pie? Hogan, Nash, etc. in WCW. Jarrett, Cornette, et al. in TNA. Just playing devil's advocate here. I've listened to a lot of Russo interviews and he suggests that his vision (post-WWE) was never what made it to the final product. I could see that in WCW. TNA seemed like it was all him. And he is unrepentant about taking credit for the Arquette fiasco.

I would agree that the WCW mess was cooking before Russo arrived, and other forces were at play. But he had a large hand in making matters MUCH worse after he got there. Decisions RUSSO made ultimately fall on him, and he had his hand in a WHOLE bunch of them.
TNA, was foolish to hire Russo (good idea Jarrett), foolish to think he had something positive to offer(good idea Jarrett), and even more foolish to re-hire Russo (nice thought Dixie). He offered the company NOTHING positive, ever.

I didn't like him from the get-go, and ended up never changing my mind on him either.
