“So nice of you to join us.” Murdok glared at Godsend and continued. “We have a tag team match next fight card. Plus, we are now without the tag team Essence.”
“Yes, well, that does sound troublesome.”
“Oh, sure, Godsend. Be sarcastic! Have you forgotten that you are the one who came to me for shelter?”
Godsend knelt in front of Murdok. “Forgive me. Yes. You are right.” The demon smirked as Murdok turned his back to him. “I am your humble servant!”
Meanwhile, Nicodemus sat alone aboard the Ravager Mothership. Contemplation etched along the face of the Ancient. Paganax still had the Essence and had not been seen since. The promotion was not making him defend it. In fact, they were not even making him appear at all at the fight cards. Nicodemus could not fathom why this would be. Only that he knew something had to be done.
Drastic times called for drastic measures.
Aegis, on the other hand, had returned to the ROC HQ with one simple message.
“It’s time!”

Ahhh, Godsend... The master of weaving tangled webs... Very nice depiction of the conversation between him and Murdok... Exactly how I would imagine that taking place... Paganx has become the Brock Lesnar of aCe... LOL! What does vx have in mind? Cannot wait to see where it is going... |

NICODEMUS VS ROUSER
Nicodemus with the NUCLEAR WINTER in the squash.
WINNER OF THE MATCH: NICODEMUS
Pariah was chuckling. I tell ya, he was no fan of Rouser.
HEROES UNITED VS THE SWAT TEAM
The Aegis Atomic Drop scored a 2 count on Flatliner. Lance At-Las caught Flatliner with a karate kick and covered and made the 3 count as Aegis cut off Warfare.
WINNERS OF THE MATCH: HEROES UNITED
Aegis was a different man. That was obvious. If his head was finally on straight, Murdok could be in a bit of a dilemma.
DARKNESS FALLS VS MURDOK AND GODSEND W/TRISIS
Before the match started, Murdok and Godsend seemed to be in disagreement over who would start for their team. Murdok ended up starting for their team. And Murdok nearly ended it early with the CENTRA TAKEOVER on Jakyll. Godsend tagged in and applied the Dextral Choke and got the submission as Murdok nailed Krypt before he could stop the result.
WINNERS OF THE MATCH: MURDOK AND GODSEND
Whatever may be going on, those two were dominant there!
ACE ESSENCE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
THE SPECIALISTS© VS RESURRECTION W/TRISIS
Scorch scored a 1 count on Corporal Tek with the Burning Fury. The Specialists gave Tek the SPECIAL FORCES and Scorch made the cover but Cremator made the save. Murdok and Godsend then came in and began to beat down the Specialists. They tried to set up for Trisis to bite the Specialists but Aegis and Lance At-Las came to the ring to clear it.

“You want them that bad, Murdok?” I yelled out. “Next fight card! You and Godsend will get them! But not for the titles!”

Pariah could not sit down.
“The Specialists against Murdok and Godsend! Dude! Do you know….”
He paced again and then sat down and then paced again.
“Wow! That’s going to get viewers man!”
I laughed. “See. Now you are starting to understand. Viewers. Ratings! That’s what it’s all about!”
Pariah shook his head. “I’m still rooting for the good guys.”
I shrugged. “Sounds good to me. That could be good for ratings as well.”
“On another subject,” Pariah said. “When will you make Paganax defend his title?”
“Soon. I already know. And it will be against a Ravager. I’m just not saying which one.”

There was an uneasy mist clinging to the air as the competitors arrived for the next set of matches. Ravagers of mistrust. Villains with their own agendas. Guys I had forced to work together or face defeat.
Some would wonder why I would give disgusting creatures like Murdok and Godsend the ability to strengthen their own bond.
Simple.
Ratings.
The greatest hero is no hero at all without a strong villain to defeat.
And if the villains were to fall apart?
The ratings would even be better!
CARD #8
RESURRECTION W/TRISIS VS NICODEMUS AND VENTROSS
Nicodemus demanded that he start for his team and spent the first part of the match trying to take on the former Essence Tag Champs by himself. Once the Ravagers started working together, they took control of the match and Ventross got a 1 count on Corporal Tek with the SEVERED TIES as well as with the Ventross Vivsection. Another SEVERED TIES finished off Tek as Nicodemus stopped Cremator from making a save.
WINNERS OF THE MATCH: NICODEMUS AND VENTROSS
“I tire of this,” Nicodemus said. “Where is Paganax?”
Oh boy. The same old whiny speech from Nicodemus.
“Nicodemus. I have decided that a Ravager will get the first shot at Paganax. However, there are two things I have not decided. Which Ravager. And when.”
“I suggest you decide soon or the fate of what will become will be on your hands.”
“Well, Nicodemus. I think you Ravagers need more practice. So, next fight card, you will team with Nemean to take on the Specialists. Beat the champs and we’ll see about getting you a match with Paganax.”
FLATLINER VS PAINMASTER
PainMaster gets a 2 count with the FACE FIRST CRASH. Flatliner came back with the Systematic Suplex and made the cover for a 2 count. Flatliner followed up with the SHOCK AND AWE for another 2 count. PainMaster came back and applied The Torture Rack. PainMaster followed up with another FACE FIRST CRASH and scored the 3 count.
WINNER OF THE MATCH: PAINMASTER
“Congratulations again, PainMaster. I think you should be considered a top contender for Paganax’s title as well.”
HEROES UNITED VS DARKNESS FALLS
After a lot of back and forth action in and out of the ring, Darkness Falls gave Aegis the RED DAWN and Jakyll made the cover and scored a 2 count. The heroes fought back and Aegis hit the +2 RAMPART’S REVENGE on Krypt and scored the 3 count as Lance At-Las cut off Jakyll.
WINNERS OF THE MATCH: HEROES UNITED
I nodded. “Looks like you are on the way back, Aegis. However, I still have my doubts so next fight card, I am ordering a rematch.”
THE SPECIALISTS VS MURDOK AND GODSEND W/TRISIS
Murdok came close to being disqualified after hitting Shepard with a chair. Murdok applied the CENTRA TAKEOVER but could not get Shepard to submit. Godsend tagged in and applied the Dextral Choke on Shepard. Shepard came back with the Silver Bullet and covered Godsend for a 1 count. Scorch hit the +1 TRAILBLAZER on Godsend and just missed getting the 3 count. The tide turned and Murdok hit the Antilian Atomic Drop and covered Shepard. Scorch came in for the save. Godsend came in for the block and was intercepted by the referee. Scorch dropped an elbow on Murdok and put Shepard on top and the ref turned around to make the count and Murdok kicked out at 2. Murdok came back and planted Scorch with the POWER OF THE PLAGUE and scored a 2 count. Murdok took Scorch down outside the ring with a clothesline and Scorch had to work hard to avoid being counted out. Murdok applied the CENTRA TAKEOVER and Scorch had to tap out as Godsend made sure Shepard could not make the save.
WINNERS OF THE MATCH: MURDOK AND GODSEND
“This is my night!” Murdok screamed. “We will go into the streets and feast in victory!”
“Over my dead body,” Aegis yelled out.
Oh boy. Keep the cameras rolling was all I could think.
Pariah with 3 out of 4 correct in predictions.

Ouch! Rough loss for the champs... Aegis will be looking to settle that score on behalf of his allies... Nicodemus should learn that intimidation tactics will not work on our beloved promoter... vx has an agenda and he will not be swayed... Love it! |

The ensuing battle was not a good one for the Crusade. With all the rage and fury that had been building inside Aegis and the Ramparts, Murdok took a beating like which he had never known before.
And surprise surprise surprise! Godsend fled and left Murdok to fend on his own.
Finally, Corporal Tek, Cremator, Noxious and Trisis were able to rescue their leader and retreat to the safety of their darkest corner of the night.
A small but satisfying victory for the Ramparts.
But still, there was an emptiness. No celebration. For Murdok still had Trisis. And nothing would complete this war until he had won her back!
