I'm inspired by the real feds that I watch (EVOLVE) or have watched (NWA/WCW), fellow promoter feds and many other areas of life. One of my favorite angles going is the Premier Athlete Brand versus The Campus/Midnight University, plus I just started a Dark Menace hostile takeover angle in my EVOLVE Wrestling and that's fun stuff...

I'm the same as most of the people who have answered this. I get my ideas from everywhere. Other promoters. What I see on tv. A lot of the ideas I come up with are at work (I have a lot of time on my hands sometimes)But mainly the dice dictate what I will do. Sometimes those silly dice have you changing things on the fly; which, for me, is the most fun.

Inspiration comes from everywhere for me... Comics, movies, songs... No word of a lie... One day, I was listening to The Tea Party's cover of Paint It Black and suddenly got an idea for a new tag team... Which then took a life of its own and became a pretty solid story... I actually just got back into watching wrestling (ROH... Cannot believe what I've been missing), so I'm sure its influence will start to turn up in my writing... And of course, the feds of other players are a constant fountain of creative ideas... One person's idea might evolve and take on a whole new life of its own when I'm the hands of someone else... Great topic of discussion... Best of luck with your ROH, my friend... And have fun! I had the same thing happen when watching Pacific Rim recently. That is when I learned what Jaeger meant. So since it is not just a liqueur I came up with a tag team name of die Jaegers which for those that do not speak German means The Hunters. Well I assume adding the s just makes it plural. So far none of the wrestlers have complained lol

This really is a great topic with some great responses as well. As for me I draw inspiration from just about everywhere - movies, music, tv, past wrestling angles and of course fellow promoters. I did an nWo group in my fed years back (complete with a Hollywood Hulk Hogan bootleg) which later spawned the idea of creating my own invading faction - the Axis of Violence - which was a lot of fun. I also name my indy shows, like CHIKARA and ROH do, and whenver I run a show in Brooklyn (near Coney Island) I name it after something from one of my favorite cult movies, The Warriors. I also make up fun names for matches on my Tokyo Dome cards similar to how it is done in Japan. My other big yearly show, WrestleCade, is a combination of WrestleMania and Starrcade. In that regard this year I actually booked the big WrestleCade IX show to take place in the same venue in Las Vegas as WrestleMania IX. As others already noted, the dice rule all and are often the reason that feuds develop in my fed. Once in a while I plan my own out, such as the recent reuniting of the Poffo Family to go against the Heenan Family, but the dice have the final say in how those play out. wow evil minds think a like. In my recent reboot of feds I had Angelo part of the Heenan family and was trying to get Bobby to add Lanny. When Bobby instead took Bundy who beat Lanny in a match it lead to Angelo getting mad and kicked out. Soon they will bring Randy in to help.

For me, I don’t necessary like to use an angle and find that the dice usually provide enough of a direction for the game to flow nicely. Trying to overbook things from a storyline perspective can often be difficult given how much of it is based on the game play and the roll of the dice. I prefer to look at as managing the roster and bringing in the talent. Put competitors against each other and watch the fireworks explode. Thing get more creative when it comes to deciding on roster changes (I am currently using the Federation Management Chart in my legends fed). As far as booking inspiration, I likely influence by Drawing Heat the Hard Way by Larry Matysik or any of the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame Books by Greg Oliver.

Honestly, you could pull up on of my feds from any period and figure out what I was watching at the time. I'm usually inspired by what I've seen. Seeing what's worked in real life and what hasn't. I don't like getting too fancy with my angles I draw a lot from 1980s JCP or Mid-South. I go a little off the wall with my Indy stuff but even that is just based on current NJPW, NXT or RoH.
But once you have a fed up and running and flowing, honestly the angles just write themselves. I think the first 3 or 4 months of a fed's life is the hardest to write for. Things are largely a blank slate and you're going off of real life or running angles that worked for you in the past. Then you start to get a little history and situations that work for beatdowns and rivalries to start up. That's when your angles start getting hotter.

Yeah you're right about the first few months being the hardest. I've started and stopped so many feds here on this forum. I guess, like you said, it'll be easier once I've been playing the same fed for a while.

You have to look at the first six months as figuring out where all of your pieces go. Those early months are about figuring out how your set of guys are going to generally perform for you. The trick to a good fed is to know and build your next challenger to get to the next feud.
Take my current Indy game right now. Michael Elgin vs. Adam Pearce was the main feud in my promotion from April to last weekend. But that whole time I was building Kevin Steen up. I was throwing Steen in tons of matches that he should win and put him in a feud with Colt Cabana who he should beat. So Steen is piling up wins while Elgin/Pearce feud. Elgin wins the feud on the 4th of July and Steen is putting Elgin through a table and setting up their feud on the 6th of July. Even a week in it's a hotter feud because my fed is now seven months old and I've been able to build it from the ground up. Steen has a real track record of wins and is on a hot streak vs. Elgin who's been my champion the entire time. I also built up Steen's motivation and approach to this feud during his feud with Colt Cabana. I couldn't have written this feud as effectively without the several months that came before it.
Now let's say Steen wins the title off of Elgin, well Cedric Alexander won a feud with him the first couple of months of my fed. He'll be the first guy to pop up and challenge Steen due to that history. If Elgin retains I've cultivated Adam Cole and Jay Lethal like I did with Steen.
That's the beauty and ease of a matured fed.

Thanks for sharing that! I never really thought of it that way. Going to work those ideas into my own promotion. Wrestling Booking 101 with maddog!

It started out similar in mine, Angelo was in the Heenan Family but they were having trouble with Randy Savage & Bruiser Brody. Angelo sided with the Tolos Brothers in a match with Savage and Brody and it went from there. It wound up with Heenan taking a jab at Lanny, due to him being called "The Genius", and Angelo feeling the pressure of the Heenan Family going against his sons so yes evil minds think alike At any rate, the Poffos are now teaming up against Heenan and his men.
