EPW World of Sport #2 Vienna, Austria April 20, 2120
Dupae Rupa def. Virgil It was all Belgian Brawler! He tore through the former bodyguard before winning with a spinebuster. Evan Lewis def. Danny Hodge by D.Q. For a long time it was all Hodge, a blur of motion as kept Lewis down. Hodge never put him away and Lewis got an opening on the floor. After falling outside Hodge got DQed. P.N. News def. Kurrgan Basically this was all P.N. News but it took him a long time to win. They fought on the floor but News controlled the action. News came off the top to get the win. Ed Lewis def. Fritz Von Goering A pretty good fight as Von Goering fought off the attack of Lewis for most of the match. Finally the Strangler got his headlock applied and took the win. Don Leo Jonathan def. The French Angel These two matched up because it was Maurice Tillet eliminating Jonathan from last week's battle royal. Jonathan controlled the bout until putting away the French Angel with the giant swing. Tillet jumped Jonathan after the match. Jim Londos & Johnny Saint def. Nigel McGuinness & Shawn Daivari Bobby Heenan accompanied European champion McGuinness to ringside. His charges got the upperhand on Londos but Saint came in and stunned Nigel for the pin after the Three In One. 15-MAN BATTLE ROYALE (Dave Taylor, Steve Williams, Frank Gotch, Ilio DiPaolo, Giant Bernard, Terry Gordy, Masked Superstar II, Claudio Castagnoli, George Hackenschmidt, Adrian Street, Iron Sheik, Terrible Turk, John Pesek, Fit Finlay, Dan Spivey) EPW likes its big men and for the second week in a row there is a battle royal on the card! Half the field won their singles matches last week after being in the battle royal that determined who they would face. This one had plenty of excitement with Terry Gordy throwing out a couple competitors, as did the Terrible Turk. As the numbers dropped, Gordy missed his move in the corner and Claudio Castagnoli eliminated him. George Hackenschmidt was working on the Masked Superstar II when the Iron Sheik interjected himself and sent the giant out of the ring. The Iron Sheik also got rid of John Pesek and Frank Gotch at the same time! The Iron Sheik battled George Hackenschmidt when Claudio Castagnoli took an opportunity to throw the Russian Lion out. Claudio fell victim to the corner ring post and the Iron Sheik dumped him out to win the battle royal! Wrestler / who they eliminated / (#)Terry Gordy - Dan Spivey (1), Ilio DiPaolo (10) Dave Taylor - Adrian Street (2) Steve Williams - Giant Bernard (3) Terrible Turk - Fit Finlay (4), Dave Taylor (5) John Pesek - Steve Williams (6) Iron Sheik - John Pesek (7), Frank Gotch (8), Masked Superstar II (9), Claudio Castagnoli (14) Claudio Castagnoli - Terry Gordy (11), Terrible Turk (12), George Hackenschmidt (13) Winner: The Iron Sheik

He kept the hold on for awhile after the match. Shawn Daivari def. Dupae Rupa A fast-paced match had Rupa rolling on offense. Daivari took a lot of big moves and kept alive. A trip to the outside turned the tide and the WMD downed Rupa. (Daivari 4 coins) Dave Taylor def. Adrian Street This was a heckuva battle! Both men have been battling each other for quite some time going back to ICW. This match was pretty much dead even with lots of nearfalls and fights on the floor. Street kicked out again after the British Suplex but a leg drop got the three for the Squire. (Street 4 coins, Taylor 3 coins) George Hackenschmidt, Frank Gotch, Ed Lewis def. Fritz Von Goering, Kurrgan, Masked Superstar II This bout didn't last long. Hackenschmidt turned Kurrgan over and the Gotch Toe Hold ended the contest. The Terrible Turk def. Doc's Oklahoma Stampede put away Bernard. NO. 1 CONTENDER EPW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE Iron Sheik def. Ilio DiPaolo The Iron Sheik was all over DiPaolo, hammering him down to the mat and the Camel Clutch finished him off. Jim Londos & Johnny Saint def. EPW Middle-heavyweight Title Tournament
First Round
Scott Taylor def. J.D. Michaels A really good first match of the tournament with a former NWA World Jr. heavyweight champion in J.D. Michaels. The two exchanged high risk dives to the outside. Taylor was able to get the offense going and kept it up until winning with the Worm. Jay White def. Devin Sparks This one was getting close to the time limit. A very evenly fought contest in and out of the ring. The two kept going at it. Jay White slowly started getting the upperhand and an arm-trap spike DDT brought him the win. (Sparks 3 coins) Louis Lyndon def. Marty Scurll An amazing comeback win for the masked luchador! For a long time it was all Marty Scurrl just pouring on the beating of Louis Lyndon. The high-flier somehow stayed alive through it out and battled back. This one almost went the distance but Lyndon pulled out the win with the crossbody splash. (Lyndon 4 coins, Scurll 2 coins) Reckless Youth def. Tommy End This one didn't last long at all. Reckless Youth rolled through Tommy End, winning with the stretch plum. Zack Sabre Jr. def. Adrian Street A good, quick match that went back and forth. Street just couldn't keep things going his way for very long. Zack Sabre Jr. took the win with a prawn hold. Fit Finlay def. Ken Doane Finlay never gave Doane any breathing room at all. He was all-out attack and wore Doane down with the Celtic Cross. Will Ospreay def. Shawn Daivari This one was over in no time at all. After a slingshot dive to the floor OSpreay won by coming off the top rope as Daivari was getting back in the ring. Danny Hodge def. Evan Lewis Lewis had the upper hand at first but Hodge came back and grabbed the win with the Oklahoma Side Roll. Last week these two met up and Hodge was DQed. Lewis attacked Hodge after the match but was unable to do any permanent damage. Quarterfinals
Scott Taylor def. Jay White Jay White had all the offense to start. Scott Taylor got his stuff going and eventually put White away with a DDT. Reckless Youth def. Louis Lyndon Reckless Youth is on fire and roared to another win. He did an amazing dive to the floor and Lyndon fought hard to keep this one going. Reckless Youth cycled through his finishers, winning with the stretch plum. (Lyndon 4 coins) Zack Sabre Jr. def. Fit Finlay A big upset for the high-flying Zack Sabre Jr. He got Finlay down and locked on a cross armbreaker for the win. Danny Hodge def. Will Ospreay These two turned in a mat classic! Old school vs. new school and it was a great one. Hodge slowed Ospreay down the vast majority of the match but couldn't find a way to finish him off. Ospreay came back with displays of amazing aerial skills. Hodge eventually wore Ospreay down to win with the Boston Crab. (Ospreay 5 coins, Hodge 3 coins) Semifinals
Reckless Youth def. Scott Taylor The first tough match so far for Reckless Youth. Taylor had his chances to win but couldn't get the pin. Reckless Youth came back and a top rope rana got him the pin. (Reckless Youth 3 coins) Danny Hodge def. Zack Sabre Jr. Another spectacular matchup. Tremendous back and forth wrestling. Hodge really worked over Sabre but was also hit by huge high-risk moves. Twice Hodge countered and caught Sabre on the top rope for near falls. It could have gone either way. Hodge got the win with the Oklahoma Side Roll. (Hodge 5 coins, Sabre 3 coins) 15 ROUNDS MATCH EPW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP Nigel McGuinness (ch) def. The Iron Sheik, 9 rounds A very long encounter that champion Nigel McGuinness held the upperhand in nearly the entire time. Late in round three McGuinness hit a rebound lariat twice and pinned the Iron Sheik. In round four the Iron Sheik had some near falls. In the eight round the Iron Sheik held on to keep the match going. Round nine the Iron Sheik could not answer the count outside the ring to end the match. (Iron Sheik 7 coins, McGuinness 3 coins) EPW MID-HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE TOURNAMENT FINAL Danny Hodge def. Reckless Youth Danny Hodge kept Reckless Youth from speeding up the match and was able to work his way to the win. Miss Linda mae her presence felt and Street started to get things going. He beat Von Goering with the crucifix. Zack Sabre Jr. def. Scott Taylor A Mid-Heavyweight division matchup. Claudio won the match with the Neutralizer on Saint. Giant Bernard def. Steve Williams Another upset! Dr. Death started strong and tossed Bernard around. But the bicycle kick and then Baldo Bomb nailed Williams for the pin. Dan Spivey def. Terry Gordy Another upset win! Spivey and Gordy just tore into each other and hammered back and forth. Spivey scored the win after a sidewalk slam. John Pesek def. Ilio DiPaolo Bobby Heenan's enforcer didn't need much time. He alternated submission finishers until Ilio tapped out. George Hackenschmidt, Ed Lewis & Frank Gotch def. The Iron Sheik, The Terrible Turk & Shawn Daivari Gotch came in and took over, pinning Daivari after an Iowa backdrop. Nigel McGuinness def. Dave Taylor A non-title match and the Squire came close to beating the European champ. After a lot of really good back and forth action Nigel won with the Jawbreaker Lariat. FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE MATCH The French Angel def. Don Leo Jonathan This bout certainly favored the style of Tillet. The French Angel just blew threw DLJ as he completely battered him around the arena until getting the pin.

Jim Londos An incredible wrestling match here with Heenan's protege the Tiger Man and the Golden Greek. Just a clinic on the mat but these two went at it on the floor as well. Pesek had the advantage a lot but couldn't keep Londos down. Pesek battled to keep the match going, then Bobby Heenan distracted the ref. Later Londos went after the Brain and Pesek capitalized outside the ring. Back inside a double wristlock beat Londos. Fatigure eventually took its toll and Andre took out Hackenschmidt. The Animal power slammed Gotch but he kicked out again! The Road Warriors then killed Gotch with the Doomsday Device.
